Thoughts on Calvin Robinson?

Long time lurker, stepping out the darkness to ask this.

Was asked today by a friend who knows I'm GC what my thoughts are on Calvin Robinson. Apparently he's becoming a face of GC views?!

I was shocked. He is anti abortion (in all cases), doesn't think same sex marriage should be legal, and isn't a feminist in any sense of the word.

I'm genuinely concerned that our movement is being picked up by people like him, who couldn't care less about women. When he says biological sex is real, he couldn't give a damn about how that leads to discrimination/violence. It made my blood boil and I want to know what other people think.

"When he says biological sex is real, he couldn't give a damn about how that leads to discrimination/violence."

I don’t follow what you are trying to say here OP? Are you saying that we should deny biological sex is real? That is hardly GC as you claim you are. In terms of violence - as a conservative Christian I imagine he would strongly condemn any violence. Indeed having just watched a bit of a speech just now, it seems he has huge concern about porn and sexual violence.

It is also worthwhile remembering that Christians are a hugely persecuted group worldwide. Even in the UK you just need to look at the treatment of Kate Forbes (SNP leadership candidate) to see that. Yet here you come OP preaching intolerance of a conservative Christian because he is not a feminist.

beastlyslumber · 15/03/2023 19:49

He's a Christian and seems like a good person.

ExiledElsie · 15/03/2023 19:48

Or that an Edinburgh councillor promoted a protest against an event being held in an Edinburgh library, and the people holding the event were charged £600 for security against the protesters.

Call me old fashioned but I think that damages the reputation of the council. Are the TRAs calling out this appalling behaviour?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/03/2023 19:41

Strange how ppl like the OP never come here and say “I’ve noticed some TRA are holding up signs saying “decapitate TERFS” and sending rape threats to women on twitter and I’m worried it’s making us look bad”

Citation needed.

As far as I am concerned though the best thing about the guy is how he shows up the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of the CofE.

How so?

PermanentTemporary · 15/03/2023 19:20

Oh he's awful in every way. Wasn't accepted for ordination in the CofE so found some other random grouping that would ordain him. I believe he's antivax but might be wrong about that. I know he believes MARRIAGE IS FOR A PENIS TO BE WITH A VAGINA because it says so in the Bible or some such. What a prat. Obsessed with his own media* career which he no doubt believes GOD has provided.

*Twitter and GB News, well known holy outlets

I should think our views overlap possibly in a couple of areas, including believing that sex is important. Funny how I can think that without believing my son will go to hell for marrying his boyfriend.

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 15/03/2023 19:20

Sounds like both OP, OP's friend and this dude they're talking about all believe in gender. It's something religious conservatives and TRAs have in common.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 15/03/2023 19:15

Gosh, so wide eyed, naive and innocent. We don’t get many of those around these parts.
There is no WE, US or MOVEMENT.
HTH.
Now, off you fuck.

The issue is that lots of people on Twitter are conflating being GC with being right wing. They are weaponising it.

I think the issue is people on here confuse recognising biological reality with being GC.

Also that the use of 'right wing' is a slur which can be 'weaponised'. Being right wing is normal, mainstream and legal.

It's very very amusing to anyone conservative to watch the panic and confusion of some people on the left when they realise they share an opinion with someone 'right wing'.
It doesn't compute for them beyond ' but they're the baddies!! 🤣

wincarwoo · 15/03/2023 19:11

Floisme · 15/03/2023 19:00

I think the issue is more that Twitter TRA know the game's up and that this is about the only argument they've got left.

I really hope that's the case.

I love the panic these posts try to provoke, where we're meant to scream ' Stop agreeing with us you're making us look bad!!!

It's pathetic.

MalagaNights · 15/03/2023 18:45

What is this 'our movement' you speak of?

If it's the movement against the Transing of children and for the reality of biological sex than CR is definitely part of that movement.

If it's the movement for pro choice on abortion. No CR is not part of that movement.

He's a very conservative Christian I doubt you are part of that movement, but you still agree with him on the reality of biological sex and there's nothing you do about it.🤣

raspberrywine · 15/03/2023 18:42

MrsOvertonsWindow · 15/03/2023 17:06

Lots of people have views about the unethical medical experimentation on children involved in this ideology.
Lots of people have views about women's rights to undress without random males being present.
Lots of people have views about the unfairness of mediocre male sportsmen taking women's places / medals / funding in sport.
And so on.

I am unable to police these people or to check who has the "correct" views on abortions, women's rights etc. I live in a democratic society and understand that this entails allowing others freedom of expression - even if i fundamentally disagree with them.

HTH.

Yes. All of this.

DemiColon · 15/03/2023 18:41

There are a few people who think of "GC" as simply being critical of gender ideology. From that perspective, lots of people are GC.

Similarly there is a whole swath of the population that believes in free movement of citizens, or that murder should be illegal, or in protection of private property, or liberal democratic principles.

It's actually a good thing when a lot of people agree on some basic ideas about reality. It makes society possible.

Well come on now ladies. Calvin IS a man, therefore the obvious choice as the "leader of our movement". Us silly mummies couldn't possibly lead it ourselves, best leave the important jobs to the men.🙄

Oh. yeah. you are right.

Sorry Signalbox - this just made me laugh.

PatatiPatatras · 15/03/2023 18:24

Gosh some people really give the male of the species too much reverence.

PotteringPondering · 15/03/2023 18:18

I don't agree with a lot of what Calvin R stands for, but I don't think that really matters.

They key word for me is 'co-belligerent': somebody you don't agree with most of the time, but who fights on the same side on a particular issue. Those sort of alliances are vital if a war is to be won.

I'm strongly gender critical, but am glad to have a whole load of people I disagree with on most issues taking a stand on gender (from the Communist Party of Great Britain to the Telegraph and American religious right).

We don't have to agree on everything to be grown-up and work together.

Floisme · 15/03/2023 18:16

I don't think I'd ever heard of him before this thread, and I'm as GC as they come.
