I'd like to see them try to reeducate Joan.

Joan has always been a feminist. I've got all her books / memoirs and she is 100% clear on that throughout. She was iconic in the 80s for battling ageism and sexism. I'm glad I grew up in the 'bitch' 80s era when being an ambitious woman who put herself first was considered a good thing.

As for Jackie Collins - Hollywood Wives & Hollywood Husbands are both about the sexual exploitation and rape of young people by film producer predators - so I'm guessing that she knew something about the subject of feminism as well.

I was about to say roughly this but you've put it beautifully.

Joan has been talking about these issues for a looong time. I just re-read her book "Past Imperfect" and it's incredible how little progress we've actually made.

Love her quip years ago, when asked if she was concerned about the age gap between herself and her much younger husband- "Oh well. If he dies, he dies".

I think she ripped that off someone else but who cares, she delivered it so well😂

Joan Collins is a phenomenon - if you ever get the chance to see the BBC story of her life, take it. It's brilliant. I note the one about her sister Jackie is still on iPlayer but no sign of Joan's... she was a groundbreaker actually and while I think she would be the first to say much of her success was built on the male gaze, she fought for better pay and working conditions for all female actors and did an awful lot of good with the power she took.

Love Joan Collins. Don't take any shit, Joan!

What would?

Wearing a "This is what a feminist looks like" T-shirt or declaring oneself "feminists to my fingertips" duhhh

RichardsGear · 13/03/2023 23:46

CanOfPop · 13/03/2023 01:43

So what? That does not make her a femnist.

What would?

Aphrathestorm · 13/03/2023 23:40

Go Joan

ArabellaScott · 13/03/2023 15:33

Well, there's always room for another discussion of whether one woman considers another woman 'feminist' enough or whether she needs to be told she's doing it wrong, or even denounced altogether.

Lottapianos · 13/03/2023 15:31

'Joan has always been a feminist'

No idea why anyone would doubt this really

She’s amazing in person too! Go Joan! 💪🏼

SmartHome · 13/03/2023 14:00

brilliant> Takes no shit. Love how it shows up the few old farts in the comments for being idiots.

SirChenjins · 13/03/2023 12:32

Well said Joan - men have been trying to silence women for years and we the see the the latest attempt by the TRAs to do so exactly for what it is.

Oh spare me... of course she's a feminist.

It makes her a woman that thinks for herself. I can just imagine how she’s been treated by men in her time. She knows what’s happening at the moment,

I can just imagine how she’s been treated by men in her time.

Indeed. According to Wikipedia (I know...):

Collins has been married five times, first to Northern Irish actor Maxwell Reed, whom she married on 24 May 1952 after he allegedly raped her.[48] She divorced Reed in 1956.

I only recently found out that she’s a gay icon. She’s had massive of gay fans for years.

Good on yer Joan!

Lottapianos · 13/03/2023 09:26

Smart woman. I hope she inspires other well known women to come out on the side of sanity too

Floisme · 13/03/2023 09:20

I bloody love Joan Collins, always have. Smart, funny woman. Don't know if this makes me a feminist and don't care.

DysonSpheres · 13/03/2023 09:14

Great gif @ArabellaScott 😀

CwmYoy · 13/03/2023 09:00

Joan is an icon.

The bitter wanabewimmin hate that we won't bow to their delusions.

AnyFucker · 13/03/2023 08:55

Well said Joan

bellac11 · 13/03/2023 08:53

CanOfPop · 13/03/2023 01:43

So what? That does not make her a femnist.

She's always been a feminist, she's done what she wanted when she wanted, how she wanted. And taken a load of flak for it

I dont like her but thats the facts of it.

ArabellaScott · 13/03/2023 08:52

CanOfPop · 13/03/2023 01:43

So what? That does not make her a femnist.

Ah, so YOU are the arbiter of who is a feminist and who is not!

Fantastic, could you share the list of criteria, cause I've always wondered pls thanks.

ArabellaScott · 13/03/2023 08:51

Oh, fantastic. Very clear.

Good for Joan - so inspiring, pragmatic and right. It does worry me that a minority is becoming so outspoken and threatening to erode the female sex. I'm proud of being a woman... the current state of affairs is really concerning. I do think more of us need to speak up. Tolerance and inclusion is so important but not by erasing women and our uniqueness and difference.
