Continuation of Thread 3.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

So changing the sex on your medical records does have real life implications for those people in a medical setting.

Shocked. I am shocked.🙄

Gorgeous houses! I have a preference for the second one because I'd rather be in a town (and near the sea) but count me in!

I liked the first property. I LOVED the second.

When I was looking for a home swap through a social housing site there was a block somewhere in South London that was women only. I think it's a really good idea but I'd only be up for it if it was only for actual natal women otherwise a big no from me. We could do with the former we could seriously do without the latter.

Please reserve any sea view bedroom for me.
More seriously, wonderful properties.

StephanieSuperpowers · 04/05/2023 18:48

Amazing!

Tricyrtis2022 · 04/05/2023 18:20

Sounds good to me, Binturong.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 04/05/2023 18:00

We may need a FWR cohousing project.

Tricyrtis2022 · 04/05/2023 17:26

Same here!

Well, I'd love it. If widowed, I would definitely never remarry and would definitely choose a woman only commune, block of flats, boat, anything.

But woman only by biology. Basically, I'd love to live with fun lovin' terfs if god forbid, the time came.

Ditto!

OK - thanks @BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn First page seems mostly concerned with the gender identity issue, which is understandable. But I'm also interested in how women feel about the idea in principle. Will go and read on.

I don't know if there has been a thread on this new women only apartment block?

Plans approved for Britain’s first women’s-only tower block | Social housing | The Guardian

I came across it via a Zoe Williams article - and I'm not sure what I think. I agree that gendered solutions to housing market failure aren't necessarily the right response to the problem. But honestly? I think I'd feel far more relaxed living alone in women's block than in a mixed block. When I think back to days of living in blocks of flats and shared hallways etc, it was always the presence of men that made them uncomfortable. I note that they've gone for TWAW but I'm more curious about whether this is something whether this idea would be popular among women. The terms and conditions are odd too - only single women may be tenants, no men allowed unless partners of women who were single when they signed the lease, no men may be leaseholders unless they inherit the lease from their mothers. All very unusual.

Alright, I have the sense of humour of a five year old, but this made me laugh

And while I'm here, yes, @Kucinghitam that was a glorious critique.

How do you comfort a non-binary prospector when they don't find any gold? You say "Their, their. Everything's going to be alright".Patreon: https://www.patreo...

"Why are you stalking my child?"

So many ways to fuck with her. I'd have been tempted to say that my child was born a boy but his first words were a full sentence, "I do not agree with the binary structures your generation has inflicted upon us. I have decided I am a girl and my name is Fifi." He said that at two weeks old.

😆

I if he had said the baby girl was ‘AMAB’ she would’ve declared the pink outfits stunning and brave!

it’s really fucking annoying that so many
people’s idea of ‘gender equality’ seems to be that boys who like make up and glittery costumes and dancing should be venerated and girls who like the exact same stuff should be derided.

That is truly batshit and the only suitable answer would be "fuck off".

IcakethereforeIam · 04/05/2023 01:22

This is too batshit to not share, too messed up to be true.

I hope.

Re that fucked up excuse for a parent. On the one hand, I agree. I do think that parents like her are very much part of the problem. Seriously, if your child is so traumatised by the most simple medical intervention then you go back home and let them know that that's the easy bit and are they really sure they want to go through with a whole lot more. You don't agree with them that it's not fair because that's utter bullshit. But. There are far more parents, I think, that are so scared of alienating their children or scared that TRSOH police will report them for trying to convert their kids back to heteronormative life (I fucking hate the word heteronormative) that they go along with it despite hating every single minute of it and not wanting any of it to happen.

duc748 · 03/05/2023 22:34

StephanieSuperpowers · 03/05/2023 16:46

I fully believe that's the real problem - parents getting into it to show how tolerant and open minded and loving and involved they are rather than stepping back and letting kids go through a phase. How are kids who change their minds going to step back if their parents are creating a whole Super Parent identity around supporting transition?

Yes, surely, absolutely that, Steph.

SinnerBoy · 03/05/2023 22:29

To me, I can't see how coercing a child into having a mastectomy like that is anything other than child abuse. Has she never sat and thought,

"Just a minute, let's put this on hold for a while, it's really distressing my child. Let's see how she feels in a while." ?
