Why Would ‘Feminist’ Workshop for Age 6-7 Girls & Non Binary People Wish to Ensure Parents Can’t Hear What is Being Discussed?

This workshop is part of the WOW event at the South Bank Centre

Parents are not welcome and are told to sit behind a glass wall in sofas to view their children but will be unable to hear what they are being told by the hitherto unnamed workshop leader.

Does anyone else think this sounds ultra dodgy?

Same people who organised the DQ event where sexual jokes about the kids opening their legs were made apparently.

Look, I just really want to be alone with your 6 year old daughter OK?

it’s been drawn to my attention that you may not be ok with that, so as a totally fine compromise, you sit on that side of this window

she and I will be over here talking about gender

Yeah OK. Look can you take the younger one as well, that way I can get a few hours to myself whilst you indoctrinate the kiddie winkles.

TaTa for now.

Kids, mummy loves you, listen to the strange man you've never met before and do everything he tells you, yes sweetie, even if it makes you really uncomfortable and violates your natural boundaries. Remember what I taught you?..Now say after me ..be?...kind. Yes dear. That's right. Kisses.

nilsmousehammer · 09/03/2023 10:48

Suggest that you want to take the same girls aside to tell them about periods however and watch the screaming abdabs errupt.

Only some pre programming of service humans is acceptable. Largely the non titillating bits.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/03/2023 10:24

as a pp says, 6 year old girls aren’t quite aware of the hand they’ve been dealt yet.

I agree. This smacks of gender identity politics/queer theory.

DemiColon · 09/03/2023 10:21

This sounds very dodgy to me.

As far as "girls and non-binary kids" I have seen a few activities advertised this way, which were clearly actually intended to be for girls. From what I can tell it reflects that so many girls are getting caught up in identity thinking. They actually want girls to attend but want to include these "transboys" with the girls, because they know that they are in fact female people.

It's not such an issue for a boys group. Which should tell them all something, but it seems like it doesn't.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 09/03/2023 10:18

To be fair I don’t really ‘get’ academic feminism and would actively swerve this now

as a pp says, 6 year old girls aren’t quite aware of the hand they’ve been dealt yet. My vote would be to let them just continue being kids for another 3 or 4 years at least

drspouse · 09/03/2023 10:12

I know my DD (who is 8) would never have wanted to go to something like this (especially if it was all talking, yawn!) on her own aged 6 or 7.

TheBiologyStupid · 09/03/2023 09:54

Well, it will make a nice change from being in school for the poor little things!

And I don't want you to hear what I put into your child's head because I strongly suspect that if you knew, you'd stop me. To protect your child. And I feel strongly that I know much better what should be in your child's head than you do, and should be able to control your choices and your child's thinking because I know better than you what is good and right for your child. That I've never met before, will never meet again and have zero care for other than what I want inside her head.

This is all fine, ok? Cos I have a label and buzzwords and everything, and am exempt from common sense.

Remember this thread from last summer? Where the drag artist was telling the audience we need to teach children to open their legs?

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4591922-to-be-livid-at-the-national-theatre?utmmcampaign=thread&utm_medium=share

And of course South Bank is also promoting the Vault Festival - whose headline family show is CabaBabaRave

WTAF?

I feel sick now

Anyone who signs their little girl up to this may as well leave her with a random stranger on a bench outside the RFH.

lanadelgrey · 09/03/2023 08:37

I took my DD, then a mid teen in 2015, I think. It was really busy, lots of milling around and loud. It’s a cavernous, anonymous space so unless your DD has a friend I can’t see that she would happily go and sit down with a lot of strangers. Even back then we mostly thought it was heavy on selling and quite vacuous.

FrancescaContini · 09/03/2023 08:27

No idea, in answer to the OP, but I certainly wouldn’t leave my child alone with a random stranger talking non-binary bollocks.

Kucinghitam · 09/03/2023 08:26

Well, I'm definitely saying WOW right now Grin

ehb102 · 09/03/2023 08:20

Anyone who says "girls and non binary people" hasn't got a very good grasp of the oppression of women.

RichardBarrister · 09/03/2023 08:20

Is it a sad indication of how poorly some parents and organisations understand child safeguarding that exclusion of parents was even suggested?

I wonder if too many parents still blindly trust organisations- schools etc to have their child’s best interests at heart? It is clearly not in the best interests of the child for adults to tell them that they may have been born in the wrong body and that people can change sex - a child’s literal brain will take that at face value.

It is already causing harm to children’s mental health and I can see why. James Dreyfus reported that a young relative of his had been to some gender ideology workshops at school and ended up so confused and distressed that they started self harming.

What does it do to young children to have a trusted adult tell them that the fundamental truth that they know instinctively and have been taught by their parents is wrong? It had a big enough impact on me when people around me started insisting that people can literally change their chromosomes and become the opposite sex. These were intelligent people who have responsible jobs and lots of children but they insisted I was wrong.

If parents assume it is safe or sensible to let their children into a workshop session which obviously is aligned with gender ideology (the mention of non binary in the title) that they are explicitly excluded from, what else will they assume is perfectly fine?

Creepy as hell.

As always with predators hiding in plain sight, parents should protect their little ones and not partake.

First question I would ask would be ‘who is that group’s feminism for’?

I think this statement on their website says it all though.

"If you identify as a woman or know a woman, WOW is for you"
Jude Kelly

Jude Kelly is the founder of WOW

I bet when she founded it in 2010, it was just for the cunty kind of women.

nilsmousehammer · 09/03/2023 07:58

Sadly yes, we know, there are parents stupid enough to hand their kids over for this, usually while sneering at the Cassandras pointing out the risks, and pat themselves on the back at how very progressive and superior they are for doing so.

RichardBarrister · 09/03/2023 07:46

sashagabadon · 09/03/2023 07:26

Sounds like a safeguarding fail. Parents should be able to request info as to what is being discussed at a minimum

I wouldn’t be overly confident of getting a straight answer on that one.

I can’t think of any sensible reason to exclude kids from a session with 6/7 yr olds and I hope the parents attending the overall event are not so gullible as to not see the huge red flag being laid out in front of them and hand their children over to these people.

Would I be happy to leave my child with this group to learn about a very complex topic and not be able to hear what is being said? No.
