Fifa's appointment of supermodel Adriana Lima as its first global fan ambassador five months before the Women's World Cup is "tone deaf", says former Fifa council member Moya Dodd.

Brazilian Lima will "develop, promote and participate in global initiatives" before the World Cup, which starts on 20 July in Australia and New Zealand.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino said Lima "lives and breathes 'futebol'".

My bar is so low these days that my first thought was, at least it's a female underwear model. Christ.

She’s not a man

I haven't come across Adriana Lima before. It's mind boggling to use him as an ambassador for women's football, as I'm sure we're al aware!

Well, it will be nice for the committee I suppose; the men on the committee, I mean. Or to be fair, the less discriminating ( in the old sense) men on the committee.

This reminds me of a branding meeting I was in once for a male dominated product, web page covered in scantily clad ladies advertising it, and they were like - 'what? Why would't women be attracted to this? Why would it put them off the site? These ladies are beautiful'

Well done Moya Dodd for speaking out. A Victoria's Secret model being held up as a role model for female athletes is not appropriate.

Thanks OP for highlighting this.
