It's called the Stroop effect:

You've actually got it the wrong way round - it's easier to say the word that's printed than say the name of the colour of ink. Unless it's in a language you don't know, in which case the printed word is meaningless to you and you can easily just say the colour instead.

An elderly lady fell outside my house today; she was bleeding a lot and yet was extremely keen no one made a fuss and tried to order a taxi to the hospital while clearly feeling unwell. I had to really be quite firm about getting her there in my car, and her wearing my coat when it finally turned up. She really was hard to persuade

I did reflect on her tenacity and resilience and extreme desire not to put anyone out.

Against the self centred demands of someone like this.

People just aren't used to calling someone 'they'

It just further highlights the absurdity. I think a lot of the joe public 'live and let live/ be kind' brigade could swallow it when it was 'poor transpersonal born in the wrong body' but this NB bullshit breaks that narrative.
