KJK seems to have an ongoing beef with same sex couples having fertility treatment. Why? How is this benefiting women's rights?

Is is definitely not benefiting lesbian rights.

It also appears to be attracting all the homophobes on Twitter.

@SapphosRock are you saying being a lesbian is a health condition that requires medical intervention?

Blister · 23/02/2023 06:51

@SapphosRock you are equating being gay to a body malfunction. You want to paint reality as homophobic but you not wanting to face reality is in itself homophobic.

Blister · 23/02/2023 06:48

SapphosRock · 23/02/2023 06:43

a fertile lesbian could conceive anytime she wants if she had sex with a man.

So offensive.

The point was that they don't want to do that - they don't want to have sex with men.

Stop half listening just to wind yourself up.

You are cherry highlighting statements out of context to make them look offensive instead of highlighting offensive statements.

What's more offensive is you lying about what KJK said.

According to this board the lesbian couple just need to find a man to have sex with and lie back and think of England.

Absolutely no poster on this thread has made any such suggestion.

You are being utterly disingenuous.

rubbish
thats an outright lie

Just for the purposes of being clear and honest, it was I that brought that idea into the discussion, not telling people to go and do that per se but pointing out that it could be done and indeed, i have been led to believe, over the years, that it has been done. The point being, that the missing ingredient for baby making between a fertile lesbian couple can be provided by a male friend possibly, not a medical team.

The post i made...

@SapphosRock " Two lesbians having IUI or IVF is totally different and is a fertility issue. "
No it isn't! Not unless one or both have a medical problem that stops them from conceiving and let's be honest, they could quite well conceive without undergoing a medical procedure if they chose to close their eyes and think of England, while they do things the normal way, if they are desperate for a child. Either that, or the old turkey baster! They do not necessarily have to go to the expense, time, trouble and pain of using a fertility clinic and associated medical personnel.
It is only a fertility issue if one, or both are infertile!

It is, of course, possible for a gay woman to have fertility issues.

Many resort to using the sperm of a male friend due to cost, but if it doesn't work and it becomes clear that the woman cannot actually conceive then, IMO, she is just as entitled to IVF as a straight woman.

Agreed

DemiColon · 23/02/2023 00:31

Infertility is seen as an illness because it means the body is not working properly. It is lacking in health. The same way that someone whose heart isn't working properly, or digestive system.

This is why they are considered eligible for medical care. The goal of treatment, in the first order, is actually to solve the problem, restore the body to health. If that isn't possible, the second goal is to find some other way to accomplish what should happen naturally, like having a pacemaker or dialysis.

People whose reproductive organs work fine are not generally eligible for medical treatment, at least not on the public dime.

BlessedKali · 23/02/2023 00:16

Definition of 'fertile' - (of a person, animal, or plant) able to conceive young or produce seed.

So two women, who are ABLE to conceive do not have a fertility issue. The thing that is stopping them from having a baby is not their FERTILITY, but the lack of sperm.

So they have a reproductive issue, which has multiple ways of being solved, and no one is saying they shouldn't be able to solve this.

But, factually, people are saying this is NOT a fertility issue

Its quite simple logic.

BlessedKali · 23/02/2023 00:11

By the same logic - a single man has a fertility issue and so he should have access to a surrogate to make a baby for him

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/02/2023 23:58

Fucking hell, thought I’d have some pre bedtime light reading but stumbled on this! This thread is insane. Are single women (or men) to be considered infertile if they can’t reproduce alone? Is the OP pissed because right now that’s the only reasonable explanation for these ramblings.

IcakethereforeIam · 22/02/2023 23:57

@Boiledbeetle I like your solution. Someone upthread mentioned logistics which got me thinking

Ditch it for the straight men too then.

Quite, not having children won't be detrimental to your health like waiting for a hip replacement or cancer treatment. If you want fertility treatment then you should fund it yourself.

ladykale · 22/02/2023 23:35

@SapphosRock it's not a fertility issue though by definition! They should pay privately.

Reddahlias · 22/02/2023 23:29

*t does seem the world has gone a bit weird and some people are getting very entitled to a baby.

If anyone, man or woman, wants to become a parent, they need to be nice to a member of the opposite sex, and to have whatever appeal necessary, for someone of the opposite sex to want to ProCreate with them.*

Yes. Should the cash strapped NHS really pay for this? We barely have enough money to look after the current population!

Boiledbeetle · 22/02/2023 23:27

OK I've checked and I've found the none sperm solution.

Wish I'd known about this in my 20s

Lesbians just need a male partner, they just need a man. Hmmm where have we heard that before 🤔

They need sperm.

Sperm is produced by males.

It's really not difficult to understand.

well considering that's where the bloody sperm comes from what other suggestion that doesnt involve a male at some point in the process do you want?? Immaculate conception? Although wasnt that by a male god?

You need an egg from a WOMAN and sperm from a MAN to make a baby. If you are a lesbian couple who both have the ability to get pregnant then you are fertile. How you choose to get the sperm to your egg is entirely up to you.

But it still isn't a fertility issue. It's a logistics issue.

ZiriForEver · 22/02/2023 23:18

It isn't homophobic to state that a same-sex couple isn't a fertility issue.

It isn't homophobic to be against IUI/IVF for everyone.

I'm against surrogacy, which implies I don't see any good solution for men.

For women, I agree with previous poster that "lacking make partner" shouldn't go to the same pipeline and same statistics as medical fertility issues.

On the other hand, I suppose the society wants more children from parents who really want them. And I'd support any woman (single or in same sex couple) who pass some health checks (to rule out addictions and so on), for some IUI rounds.

Is Kelly Jay Keen derangement syndrome a thing or is Sappho's the index case?

Is it catching, because it seems particularly rife in Brighton?

It's a thing. Sappho has it especially badly, though.

Blister · 22/02/2023 23:10

You do realise that there are infertile lesbians out there. Right? Those for who ivf would fail or be impossible? And not all lesbians are infertile?

TinselAngel · 22/02/2023 22:56

I'm sure Sapphos hopes to put some women off from giving their support.
That's one possibility.

Christ, that didn't even occur to me. I just assumed Saphos was posting nonsense due to an attention drought, because the premise is so ludicrous.

We've had men identifying as women on here calling themselves infertile women, because they cant gestate a baby. This is the same level of unhinged bat shit.
