KJK opposing fertility treatment for gay couples

KJK seems to have an ongoing beef with same sex couples having fertility treatment. Why? How is this benefiting women's rights?

Is is definitely not benefiting lesbian rights.

It also appears to be attracting all the homophobes on Twitter.

I'm not clear why lesbians would need IVF - unless they are both actually infertile.
Surely a lesbian just needs a sperm donor and a syringe?
If they are having it purely because one woman wishes to carry the other woman's egg, it seems very unwise, as pregnancies from donor eggs are riskier to the mother.

Why Tweet about it at all? Seems like KJK taking a swipe at lesbians. The comments are certainly very anti-lesbian.

She Tweeted it this afternoon.

That’s in your head.

This lesbian (repost from upthread) obvs doesn’t see the tweet as anti lesbian:

I have no idea why she's tweeting about it, but the tweet in the OP isn't wrong. A colleague of mine has had two children with her wife, using a sperm donor. She would not describe herself as "infertile", in fact I had a conversation with her (we were pregnant at the same time) where she said she was lucky to not have had any fertility issues.

OP - would you consider a single woman who wanted a child to have fertility problems?

She Tweeted it this afternoon.

That's because she's anti-LGBT

SmugglersHaunt · 22/02/2023 14:39

She's just stating a fact - it's not a fertility issue as there is no way two women or two men can have a child. I'm gay and I realise that.

GoingOnce · 22/02/2023 14:39

Not a fertility issue and not remotely what the NHS should be doing.

lifeturnsonadime · 22/02/2023 14:38

It's factually incorrect, nothing homophobic about it.

Meant to be factually correct, d'oh I'm tired.

lifeturnsonadime · 22/02/2023 14:38

I genuinely don't get what's supposed to be wrong with this tweet?

It's factually incorrect, nothing homophobic about it.

The plug and hoover analogy is perfect.

I'd say IVF with no fertility issues isn't fertility treatment it's sperm donation.

Useruser1 · 22/02/2023 14:32

KJK is 100% correct

dimorphism · 22/02/2023 14:32

Sapphos what you are saying is really offensive to women with medical fertility problems. The lesbians I know (who successfully had IVF with a pregnancy every time - 100% success rate - i.e. not infertile) would agree. They know the grief I went through having 10x ivf with no babies at the end of it.

You're just looking for anything (unsuccessfully might I add) to smear KJK with - it says a lot more about you than her.

OneLongSmorgasbord · 22/02/2023 14:30

Of course, it's not a fertility issue.

If you're infertile, you're infertile whether in a relationship with the same sex or the opposite sex.

This is just another reason to bash KJK.

BreadInCaptivity · 22/02/2023 14:28

This is nonsense. If I try to turn on my hoover without plugging it in, my hoover isn't broken, it's missing the thing it needs to start working. Two women aren't infertile, they are missing the sperm they need to get pregnant.

Exactly this.

dimorphism · 22/02/2023 14:28

I agree that clear language is important. Apart from anything else, lesbian couples using IVF are far more likely to have positive outcomes as many of them won't have fertility problems.

As someone who had severe fertility problems, I think lumping IVF that's necessary as a woman does not have a male spouse (also applies to single women) is entirely different to IVF because a woman has been unable to conceive, has a medical problem, and it is not helpful to either group to conflate the two.

I'd be interested to know how old this tweet is and the rest of the thread, I suspect it may be deliberately being taken out of context.

Yes it is. It is not being able to conceive as a couple.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on that.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 22/02/2023 14:26

SapphosRock · 22/02/2023 14:20

Yes it is. It is not being able to conceive as a couple.

But two women can’t conceive as a couple because they both produce the same ‘half’ of the necessary starting material. There’s nothing ‘wrong’ with either of them, it’s just ….biology.

If you want purple, you have to mix blue and red. If both of you only have a red paint pot, you can’t get purple ( you will have to outsource the blue🥶)

It’s is not a fertility problem, it’s a reality problem, and I guess KJK is fed up with reality problems.

BreadInCaptivity · 22/02/2023 14:26

She doesn't say she opposes anything in the tweet you have posted.

She is stating the fact that a same sex couple cannot procreate even if they are fertile - hence it's not a fertility issue.

I don't know if she said anything else in this topic, but based on that tweet you are making allegations that are erroneous.

Same sex relationships not resulting in the birth of a child isn't infertility, though, is it?

Absolutely right. Calling it a fertility issue changes the way it 'sounds' to elicit sympathy and empathy that might not be felt if it wasn't described that way. Especially in the case of gay men who need to exploit a woman's fertility to create a child.

The language we use to discuss these issues is so important.

TinpotNostradamus · 22/02/2023 14:23

SapphosRock · 22/02/2023 14:20

Yes it is. It is not being able to conceive as a couple.

It isn't infertility and it is disingenuous to say so. A single human isn't infertile either.

IcakethereforeIam · 22/02/2023 14:22

I read it as a statement of fact.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 22/02/2023 14:22

It is just nothing to do with the fertility of either woman, just that in order to use a sperm donor they will need to go through a medical procedure. That it comes under fertility treatment in clinics is just because usually this treatment is needed because of male factor inferility (ie infertility of the father) - you wouldn't call the mother infertile in those circumstances.
