Cis vs thabit

Cis is a term that has been imposed on people whose gender is consistent with their birth gender. It's a horrible sounding word and sounds like sissy so it's very inappropriate. Alternatives like birth gender and biological gender are contested and clumsy. So how about using the Arabic word for "consistent" which sounds rather nice: "thabit"?

What's wrong with WOMAN?

Dunno, 'as tha asked doctor?

@Velvian - I agree completely. I honestly thought we were finally moving on from the rigid gender stereotypes of the past, but gender ideology seems hell bent on taking us back there.

They think they are being so modern and forward thinking, but it is far more tolerant and forward thinking to say that clothes, hobbies, jobs, colours, toys etc have no intrinsic gender, so people can wear, do and like whatever they want and this has no conflict with their biological sex. Their view is actually very intolerant because it says a man cannot, for example, like pink, skirts and nail polish, and a woman can’t want short hair, wear jeans and work as an engineer.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 22/02/2023 14:13

If I have to have a prefix , I would settle for ‘real’.

Happylittlechicken · 22/02/2023 14:10

@Baggages no. Fuck off. And just in case the tone police come on…. 💖💖💖💖 sparkly hearts.

So the consensus is that in an ideal world we would called women. However not convinced that is an option. Interesting noone objects to cis. Perhaps it might be different on a male forum.

I think you'll find we actually are called women. Without a gendering prefix because you can't assume OR just assign a gender belief onto any another human.

Velvian · 22/02/2023 14:01

The worst thing about being labelled 'cis' (or thabit 🙄) is that it implies I have an untroubled relationship with female stereotypes.

I've been objecting to female stereotypes since I was about 2.

Silvergone · 22/02/2023 13:57

We don’t need an Arabic word when there’s a perfectly sensible English word: Woman. Also, Female.

The problem is women-hating men trying to control women’s speech and opinions, and you won’t stop that with a single Arabic word.

No one objects to cis?

Are you reading the thread properly? I object to cis, its unnecessary and offensive.

What you got from all this is that no one objects to cis?

crivens

crumpet · 22/02/2023 13:56

I think most if not all the people in your replies object to cis . But you weren’t asking about cis, you were asking about thabit, so that’s what they were responding to.

threecupsofteaminimum · 22/02/2023 13:56

How about, no.

No thankyou.

Gender is the externally imposed set of social norms for a sex. I don't comply with those, so I'm not consistent or 'cis' or any other way you can think to suggest that I'm a woman because I conform to stereotypes.

Woman just means adult, human, female.

The whole idea of gender is something I am opposed to.

bellac11 · 22/02/2023 12:39

Theres no such thing as 'biological gender' or birth gender

There is sex

And some people feel they have a gender which is an internal concept which either aligns with or doesnt align with their biological sex.

There is no need for a prefix in front of someone's biological sex. Im a woman, thats it

I dont need a prefix to describe that I dont collect stamps. So I dont need a prefix to describe some concept that is either internally to me or doesnt exist in my head.

I am a woman

I have no breasts, no uterus, no ovaries. I take medication to supress female hormones, I am bald and mostly wear mens clothes

Dont you dare try and redefine me into a "subset of woman" alongside some other "subset of women"

I am 100% woman, and noone with a Y chromosome is going to come even within shouting distance, let alone touching distance of what that is

Well said, @Booblessbeauty!

Aerielview · 22/02/2023 11:52

Sex: Male or Female
Nothing else

highfidelity · 22/02/2023 11:50

Cis, thabit or any prefix for woman is totally redundant and unnecessary. OP, stop buying into this rubbish.

And to be clear, and so you are not confused -

What do all women have in common?
They are all biological women/adult human females.

What do all transwomen have in common?
They are all biological men/adult human males.

Hope that helps.

All of these words are ridiculous. I won't use any of the whole range of words that have appeared in the last few years concerning gender. Male or female are all that's needed.

'Thabit', sounds like something a monk from Yorkshire would wear.

BunnyBerries · 22/02/2023 11:42

Lost me at "whose gender is consistent" (that's even before "birth gender")

Which stereotype do you have to perform in order to even qualify for claiming a "gender".....?

Nope, because it's accepting the idea that everyone has a gender. I REFUSE THE NOTION THAT I HAVE A GENDER. I have a sex, I am female. I have been socialised to conform to the stereotypes that are associated with my sex, but I do not accept that I somehow have an immutable gender, something separate from my sex that infuses my being - a gendered soul. I'm a religious atheist and a gender-identity atheist too. There is no heaven, no hell, and no gender. It's ALL bollocks.

I'm coming round to the idea that nobody is cis, and therefore nobody is trans either. There are people who are dysphoric about their sexed bodies, but dysphoria, the opposite of euphoria, is, according to my dictionary, a feeling of being ill at ease. Fine, they are ill at ease with their sexed bodies and they need help to come to terms with their reality - but their feelings about their bodies has NOTHING to do with me, and my feeling at ease with my body is nothing to do with them - so they don't get to apply a label to me and insist that I adopt that label, because that's all about validating their worldview.

So it doesn't matter what word they use for the label, be it cis, thabit, or anything else. I reject the label, I reject the ludicrous idea that I should allow myself to be labelled, and I reject 'gender identity'.
