'KATE Forbes looks set to be probed by the SNP's conduct committee after members of the party's LGBTQ+ wing accused her of breaking rules on transphobia.

In an interview with ITV Border, when asked if she believed a trans woman is a woman, the Finance Secretary replied: "I believe that a trans woman is a biological male who identifies as a woman."'

Good for Kate though I suspect it's done for her campaign
It's all bluff snd crap from the trans lobbyists anyway as her views are protected in law.

Very sloppy reply for a politician she should have either declined to answer or answer it properly. As it's stands her answer is transphobic by the code she signed up to represent. It should have been phrased to acknowledge gender identity even if she wanted to rock the boat and add biology to the end of it.

Something like I do believe a trans woman is a woman as an individual has the right to identify as whichever or non gender they wish, this principle is the corner stone of gender identity. This shouldn't be confused with biological genotype which is usually assigned at birth and can be different to someone gender identity

“Assigned at birth” is a very sloppy, as you put it, expression.

Assigned by whom? The fates?

Kemi:

"Thank you! So many misunderstand the Equality Act. I was surprised to be asked by Politico to condemn someone for her religious beliefs. Had to point out that the EA protects religious belief! We need to be able to disagree on policy without endless calls to condemn each other."

Sugarfree23 · 22/02/2023 01:23

Gender and Isla's pink leggings pulled the last leader down.

Surely Kate who called a spade, a spade won't also be pulled down by her gender views.

Nonsense isn't it. It's conditional on being male.

It’s the defining factor!

Following the TRAs own rules:

If sex and gender are different…

and sex is male/female and gender is man/woman…

then transwomen are MALE-women and we (the boring old-fashioned type of women), are FEMALE-women!

(and as single SEX spaces are divvied up by sex not gender - the clues in the name - they can all cock off back to the male single sex spaces where the male-women can share urinals with male-men)

And as the above is unnecessarily complicated and causes people with low literacy and English as an additional language to be marginalised (especially those who have no separate sex/gender words in their native languages) I propose we all go for the much easier to understand ‘men who say they are women’.

'I don't believe in sex outside marriage, in my religion it is wrong. But if other people believe otherwise, they are welcome to believe that'.

She.is.literally.Hitler.

😆

I’m sort of wondering if Forbes has gone into this as a sort of intentional wrecking ball - yes, she has some conservative religious views that are out of step with the majority of Scotland (and the UK) but so does one of her opponents… and at least all Forbes’ opinions fit together and make sense, whereas how does Yousaf reconcile HIS faith with Scottish law re: sex outside of marriage/contraception/abortion and LGBT rights?

If Forbes can redirect all the same awkward questions onto Yousaf, that should result in a clear pathway for Regan… or it will result in the SNP looking like hypocrites as well as biology-deniers.

it is basically outing the transwoman as being biologically male

Transwomen are biologically male. It's hardly outing when we all know that.

Nonsense isn't it. It's conditional on being male.

Oh aye, one of the loudest voices demanding that Kate step down from the running and 'resign as Cab Sec and MSP'?

Suzanne McLaughlin, Director at Engender.

Yes, that Engender.

It forcing the term man and woman to be about genotype when society increasingly sees them as a phenotype.

Can anyone translate that for me please? I would like to know whether its worth trying to understand Grumpy or not. I highly suspect its not.

Genotype is binary genetic sex. Phenotype is the physical manifestation of genotype: Primary sex characterisics (genitalia and gonads) and secondary sex characteristics (mostly pubertal) and sometimes non sexual population features such as size distributions or behavioural traits

Primary sex characteristics align perfectly unless there is a developmental disorder (dsd) which is true for only 0.0018% of births

Grumpy is incorrectly but probably deliberately using the terms as a linguistic device to conflate trans identities with dsds, and to insinuate that you can substitute 'phenotype' for traditionally masculine/ feminine attributes (which do overlap a little anyway in the the seperate populations of male people and female people) and sex chatacteristics which can obviously be surgically, hormonal or cosmetically created or enhanced.

Trans identities more often than not occur in people who are entirely phenotypical for their sex, and being atypical doesn't negate sex, so it's kind of irrelevant.

We still need words that distinguish human females from human males and from males and females of other species.

Unpleasant though it may be for KF, I hope she is probed by the committee. And I hope TRAs continue to say gibberish like this ^^.

Let's get it all out there, on the table, under the spotlight.

Along with this load of unhinged, totalitarian claptrap.

Transphobia” describes discriminatory or prejudiced language or actions, relating to actual or perceived gender identity or gender expression, including denying or refusing to accept gender identity”

“Transphobia may manifest in a range of ways including, but not limited to, deliberately misgendering someone or using phrases or language to suggest their gender identity is not valid, for example referring to a trans woman as a "biological man".

'I don't believe in sex outside marriage, in my religion it is wrong. But if other people believe otherwise, they are welcome to believe that'.

She.is.literally.Hitler.

Why is she Hitler for not believing in sex outside marriage? It is a perfectly reasonable belief and one held by a majority of people in the world. She did not demand others agree with her (unlike the trans people) and said they were welcome to believe otherwise than her. That is tolerance. We seem to lack it lately. She is also right about transwomen, of course, they are men who think they are women. Good on her for being honest.

She couldn't say that a transwoman is a woman, because she does not believe this - and probably thinks the idea of 'assigned at birth' is nonsense - and it also conflicts with her faith. What she said was perfectly true, a transwoman is a man who thinks he is a woman; what you suggest she say supports trans ideology and Forbes quite obviously doesn't support it. Politicians either not answering questions or giving weasel answers does them no good with voters. Telling the truth is most refreshing.

Good point made on Twitter that once the machinations of the SNP have destroyed Kate's chance (and more - there's calls from some for her to be removed from her position/the Government/the SNP entirely), then the focus of destruction will move onto Ash Regan.

I find it quite astonishing that some are calling for her to be removed from office because she's a Christian.

Is's so intolerant and discriminatory.

Thought SNP members were supposed to be tolerant and open. A Broad church. 🤔

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 21/02/2023 23:42

I'm no fan of Kemi but I have to agree with her statement above.

Waitwhat23 · 21/02/2023 23:30

It's just unadulterated shite. The SNP have made themselves into an embarrassment - there's been no mysterious Tory evil scheme needed.

And I'm so fed up of hearing 'the majority of MSP's voted for it' given the SNP were whipped and still saw their biggest rebellion since they came to power, Labour were whipped, the Greens are...well, and the Lib Dems are headed by a man who 'did it all for Beth' (oh, there's some very amusing back pedalling going on there btw).

Hebridean · 21/02/2023 23:26

@GiveMeStrengthNow just wanted to point out that the text you quoted wasn't mine, it was Grumpy's. I'm not taking credit for that nonsense 🤨

Is Grumpy grumpysplaining? Because it doesn't makes sense to me. It's not me is it?

That story of the emperors new clothes comes to mind again.
Are we supposed to agree that a person with a penis and balls is a woman 🤣just because they say they are ?

ArabellaScott · 21/02/2023 23:12

This is all a ploy by the Tory controlled mainstream media to undermine the Scottish Parliament and attack the SNP, all driven by fear of Scotland leaving the UK. Can’t believe so many have fallen for it.

Eh?

Are you telling us that all the male criminals in women's prisons are actually Tory controlled mainstream media employees there only to save the alliance! Bloody hell, that was a cunning stunt, so many people fell for it.

Can they come out now please? Or will they be staying?
I assume you are supportive of the SNP rapist choice bill?

No, I don't think it is the same at all.

A British-Asian is British. The subcategory of Asian doesn't add anything. Lots of us may have international heritage if we check our ancestry but we still call ourselves British by virtue of birth. British is British.

In my example, the French person IS French. They can call themselves British because that's up to them, but they are still French - regardless of how they feel.

A trans woman is biologically male. There is no part of them which is biologically female. Referring back to your British-Asian example, the British-Asian person IS still British, even if you want to add the Asian descriptor. A trans woman is not a biological woman. Not at all. It's not an added descriptor. It's a French person who wants to call themselves British when they're not.

Unfortunately for those who prefer to solely use gender, biology matters. It is only men who rape. The overwhelming majority of sexual and violent assaults are carried out by biological men, regardless of how they identify. Men are bigger, stronger and more powerful when compared pound for pound to their female counterparts. That's why biological men can't enter most women's sports.

I'm not advocating for this person for First Minister. I'm not Scottish and tbh, I don't know much about her at all. But I do think the world would be a much better place if politicians were more honest and clearer. I think her response is excellent actually - trans women are biological men but she respects their right to identify as a woman. Pretty much covers all bases I think - other than those who are demanding that she pretends that a biological man IS actually a woman. Which is untrue and just ridiculous - but that's where we're at now and why the SNP is being laughed at.

I also very much disagree with you that the world is "increasingly" recognising gender over biology. If anything it appears to be reverting to biology. Thank goodness.

“Why the SNP is being laughed at”

The Gender Reform bill was voted through by a majority of MSPs, including, believe it or not, some conservatives. It wasn’t only about Nicola Sturgeon and it’s not only about the SNP.

This is all a ploy by the Tory controlled mainstream media to undermine the Scottish Parliament and attack the SNP, all driven by fear of Scotland leaving the UK. Can’t believe so many have fallen for it.
