'KATE Forbes looks set to be probed by the SNP's conduct committee after members of the party's LGBTQ+ wing accused her of breaking rules on transphobia.

In an interview with ITV Border, when asked if she believed a trans woman is a woman, the Finance Secretary replied: "I believe that a trans woman is a biological male who identifies as a woman."'

Yes, but the Indian Council seems to be a fairly large and established group.

Very impressive from the Muslim Council. And very damning of HY.

According to a comment by Craig Murray on that blogpost, this organisation, the Muslim Council of the UK, are not a well-known or influential organisation (ie don't confuse them with the Muslim Council of Britain). If you google them, almost nothing comes up.

ArabellaScott · 22/02/2023 10:02

It's astonishing. So far, I've not seen the media pick it up for some reason. Odd, that.

BBC Sctoland is wall to wall reports of Kate Forbes' 'crisis'.

Well.

Let's see how this plays out:

wingsoverscotland.com/a-time-of-fear/

'Neil Lal, Chairman and President of The Indian Council, stated:

“We as a community do not feel safe with Humza Yousaf as the First Minister in Scotland. The Indian community – which is a community of all faiths that includes Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, and Judaism – would not feel safe with Humza Yousaf as First Minister.

Our community is law-abiding, hard-working, and proud of our country. Humza Yousaf attacked a nursery publicly and has now walked away without apology. Surely his integrity must be called into question? He has stoked up racial tensions in the Indian Hindu community, and this is not acceptable.”'

Mr Wasif Ahmad, Chairman of The Muslim Council of the UK, stated:

“Humza Yousaf is not the right person for the role. We trust Ash Regan or Kate Forbes as First Minister and urge people to vote for one of them, who would heal the damage and be better for Scotland. Humza Yousaf is not competent. We stand with the Indian community and agree with their concerns.”

We call for Humza Yousaf to be asked the same questions as Kate Forbes:

  1. Are trans women women?
  1. Are children outside marriage allowed?
  1. Is sex before marriage allowed?

Anything less is giving Humza Yousaf more favourable treatment in the SNP leadership contest and treating the women candidates of different beliefs at a disadvantage.”

Neil Lal further stated:

“Scotland is at a major crossroads and if Humza Yousaf becomes the First Minister it will ruin Scotland economically as there will be a flight to safety with businesses, wealth and the intellectual capital moving south of the border and elsewhere. Scotland will suffer a brain drain. This is already happening and now will accelerate.

We have approached Humza many times to sit to discuss and address our concerns in
the past, but neither he nor Nicola Sturgeon have been approachable. Other political leaders of many parties, including Keir Starmer, Anas Sarwar, Alex Salmond, Arlene Foster and Willie Rennie, have all listened to the concerns of the community in working for the betterment of the country, showing the difference in respect and maturity that these politicians have.

We challenge Humza Yousaf that if he believes in democracy and if he believes the First Minister should represent everyone, he should show some humanity, humility, and maturity and apologise for his previous actions.”

Wow.

I hadn't heard of her before today but I'll say I like Kemi.
She's much younger than I thought she would be.

Sorry to derail but is the name Kemi short for something?

Why do reporters/interviewers keep asking this question if there is only one 'right' answer? Bloody shit stirrers.

We agree, there is only one correct answer. So how do so many get it so wrong?
Do I want a liar as leader of my country? No
Would i appreciate a fantasist as leader of my country, obviously not.
How about a person too cowardly to say the truth lest it get them in trouble with a minority? Who needs some scaredy cat who wont stand up for anyone.
And what if they believe the lie that men can be women, ever, anytime, when it suits them? Nah, no one wants a very stupid person in charge.

Well none of those people look like they could run a country to me.

It's reasonable to question a senior politician on whether their personal faith might clash with current law. Presumably Yousef will also be subject to the same grilling, including monitoring the content of his prayers?

Well.

I can imagine you’re fed up with hearing actual facts that don’t fit with your opinion. That must be quite exhausting.

I mean, you're being incredibly, cleverly satirical here, right? You must be - no-one can be that obtuse.

Alice Thomson's opinion piece in the Times today:

I think AT is very much TWAW.
Looking through the Times today, I get the feeling the Times very much doesn't want Kate Forbes to win this leadership contest.

Sugarfree23 · 22/02/2023 08:41

While I agree with Kemi Badenoch I find it almost bazaar that a Tory MP is speaking out to support another Parties potential leader.

I'm not a huge follower of politics but I can't think of that happening before. 🤔

Kemi Badenoch has commented:

www.politico.eu/article/uk-equalities-minister-kemi-badenoch-defends-under-fire-snp-hopeful-kemi-badenoch-faith-conservative-party-free-church-scotland/

"Badenoch told a POLITICO event in London Tuesday night that she would defend the right of Forbes to hold those views, and refused to condemn her comments in her role as equalities minister.
“I think that is sad because I believe in freedom of conscience,” she said of the backlash. “That’s one of the things that makes this country great. It’s one of the reasons why many people want to live here.”
Badenoch — viewed as a rising star in the Conservative Party, which is at odds with the SNP on the key question of Scottish independence — said she admired Forbes “for not being dishonest” about her faith.
“It’d be very easy for her to tell lies, just so that she could win that election,” Badenoch said of Forbes. “And she’s not doing that, and I think that that’s something that people need to take into account.”
Badenoch also condemned SNP politicians who have yanked their support from the under-fire contender. Shelved endorsements of Forbes, she argued, show “the level of un-seriousness of many of the people who engage in political activity and commentary.”
Asked by POLITICO whether she would condemn the views Forbes had put forward, Badenoch directly declined, and said that while she personally supports gay marriage, she “would not want people to condemn me for having personal views.”

Pointing to her role as “guardian” of the U.K.’s Equality Act, which includes religious protections, Badenoch said: “To ask me to criticize someone for their religious beliefs, when I’m supposed to be safeguarding it, shows that those people don’t understand equality. What they want is to use the Equality Act as a sword to fight their own personal battles, rather than as a shield to prevent others from discrimination.”"

Superb. A properly strong female politician with a sharp mind. More of this please.

Grumpybutfunny · 21/02/2023 16:18

Very sloppy reply for a politician she should have either declined to answer or answer it properly. As it's stands her answer is transphobic by the code she signed up to represent. It should have been phrased to acknowledge gender identity even if she wanted to rock the boat and add biology to the end of it.

Something like I do believe a trans woman is a woman as an individual has the right to identify as whichever or non gender they wish, this principle is the corner stone of gender identity. This shouldn't be confused with biological genotype which is usually assigned at birth and can be different to someone gender identity

Nonsense and gibberish. She was clear and factual which is what she needed to be.

It's just unadulterated shite. The SNP have made themselves into an embarrassment - there's been no mysterious Tory evil scheme needed.

And I'm so fed up of hearing 'the majority of MSP's voted for it' given the SNP were whipped and still saw their biggest rebellion since they came to power, Labour were whipped, the Greens are...well, and the Lib Dems are headed by a man who 'did it all for Beth' (oh, there's some very amusing back pedalling going on there btw).

I can imagine you’re fed up with hearing actual facts that don’t fit with your opinion. That must be quite exhausting.

Gender and Isla's pink leggings pulled the last leader down.

Surely Kate who called a spade, a spade won't also be pulled down by her gender views.

It’s possible there is no correct view for women to hold. In the same way as there is no way for women to dress that won’t be somehow wrong.

smileladiesplease · 22/02/2023 07:30

Is Suzanne a woman or one of those women with penis?

Oh aye, one of the loudest voices demanding that Kate step down from the running and 'resign as Cab Sec and MSP'?

Suzanne McLaughlin, Director at Engender.

Yes, that Engender.

Does Suzanne think nobody who believes transwomen are biologically male should be in government?

Seems kind of extremist.
