Males over 12 now allowed to play in Ladies Gaelic Football

Just that. Males who claim to be women or girls can now play against girls and women on the pitch. Women and girls already get a much smaller share of state funding towards female sports. And, now this bullsht. No details of how they plucked this out of their collective ases arrived at this policy. Having female only sport meant that women and girls were included in sport.

The GAA support the Irish language, but surely any other language can now 'identify' as Irish. The Irish flag must be flown, but again surely they should be 'inclusive' and let any other flag identify as the Irish flag.

We unfortunately have a Taoiseach (PM) who supports this destruction of female sports. When the IRFU stated they would prioritise safety and fairness for women, he asked them to reconsider those aims, and talk to the men who wanted to play in women's sports. In short, just walk all over women in Ireland.

The red herring testosterone level is there, as if it turned men into women.
I confirm that [insert name of Applicant] has:
Transitioned/or is transitioning (as appropriate) from male to female and intends on living their life as a female, and
During the previous 12 months, has a total testosterone level in serum equal to or less than 10 nanomoles per litre (nmol/L).

This is bullish*t. Probably 20 times than most women. 10nmol/L is in the normal range for men. There are probably males on the Irish rugby team with that level. Irrespective; strange times if they're pretending that this level, or any level or lack of testosterone made a female out of a male.

"I would like to put on record that the elite LGFA players I know are very big and very strong and they are not to be messed with"

This is nonsense. The elite LGFA players may be very big and very strong when compared with women who do not play the sport. The same is not true when you compare them with most men, but especially with men who play the sport.

Take Rugby for instance. I was always most impressed with the women in the local team, who were so much stronger and bigger than 5'5" me. They were formidable.

At U15 level, my son's team got to train with that same women's team, and the boys were already noticeably stronger than the women. (And they played as semi-professionals whereas the U15 team were merely school boys). They were only allowed to do this once, and at the time he told me it was because they were too strong and the injury risk to the women considered too high.

Senator Sharon Keogan raised this issue in the Seanad on Tuesday. See link below. Senators Marie Sherlock and Lorraine Clifford-Lee responded to her in their contributions. The Seanad Leader, Lisa Chambers, referenced it in her summing-up reply.

Our group chat in work is full of tirades against terfs and transphobes and plaudits for those welcoming males into women's sports. All from women, and a few men, who are self-styled "feminists". Surely even the most ardent gender ideologue can see the blatant unfairness of allowing men to insert themselves into women's sports? But they apparently don't. They just chant the catechism and renounce the heretics. It sickens me.

All spoofers aren't they? Considering one of them led the campaign to abolish the Seanad.

Also, as far as we know, their opinion wasn't sought.

Really Lorraine, all of them?
What about non elite girls?
Are they also big and strong?

". I think it would be particularly mean-spirited if trans girls were prevented from taking part in Gaelic football in their communities because quite often in rural communities that is the only sporting activity that might be available to them, so I commend Mr. Naughton."

What about girls who will not be able to participate because of this policy?
Is it not mean spirited that they lose out?
Do they not matter?

Howya DumDeeDoh, was it this link you were looking?

[Interview with] Danielle Loughrey who plays football for Buncranna GAA and is also the PRO for the Donegal County Board and Sorcha, who is the Sports working team lead from the Countess advocacy group for women and children, about the new LGFA policy for transgender women in the woman's game.

This is driven by the constant drumroll to be seen as liberal and miles apart from the Ireland of old, IMO. When Joe Duffy was covering this last year and there was a local GAA leader proudly talking about how their changing rooms were now unisex, he was shocked and appalled when listeners pointed out how unsafe that made girls and women feel. He wasn’t a bad guy - he was trying to be liberal and inclusive but hadn’t considered the impact on women because everyone is either afraid or too cool to call it out.

Finally sense is returning in other sports especially in the UK but the GAA is an amateur organisation not as tied to advertising as other sports.

This is exactly right. It’s the wave that (laudably) pushed through the legal right to terminate and marriage equality without the recognition that these were correcting inequality, not putting women in danger. It’s horrifying.

MoreCraicPlease · 24/02/2023 06:03

It's like a competition to make the English look boring and old fashioned. And to win woke points as Europe's liberal progressive poster child.
Yes the liberal drumroll has been steadily sounding for many years in Ireland. I think it’s a backlash to the influence of the Catholic Church. Ironic that it’s at the cost of women who were the CC’s biggest loser in the past.
The big pharma theory is not one I’ve heard before.

No competition needed - we are! 🤣

Abhannmor · 23/02/2023 16:12

Yes @ladymactíre . Ourselves and our cousins in Wales and Scotland.

It's like a competition to make the English look boring and old fashioned. And to win woke points as Europe's liberal progressive poster child.

Except none of our fearless leaders have given it any thought. They just think it's easy and popular.

And way cheaper than building social housing. Or fixing schools and hospitals.

Performative is the word.

ladymactíre · 23/02/2023 15:52

I don't understand who and why wants to destroy women's sports. This is so infuriating and frustrating! It's against any logic, common sense and science.
I've always been the "live and let live" one, but this is getting ridiculous. The more they get, the more they ask for and they are accommodated as soon as possible. And this self-identifying crap is a joke! We'll be worse than USA and Canada!

Almost 18000 votes, 94% against this decision by the Lgfa.

That's encouraging at least ! More like 99% once people understand the implications I bet ?

That is a little disturbing to read. Usually I would think "coincidence' but I honestly cannot understand how the LGFA agreed to this decision.

Thats a very disturbing read.
And not just for ladies Irish sport.

I've never been into the 'big pharma' conspiracy theories but that makes me wonder how many fingers have they got in other pies.
It can be the only logical explanation why anyone would agree to men in women's sports at any level.

Can they not get a sponsorship from tampax or bodyform we need those companies who make money from actual women to support the fight.

EvelynBeatrice · 23/02/2023 14:29

Sisters will have to do it for themselves ... all the outrage and complaining is futile. The only way this will be defeated is if women unite and refuse to play in such circumstances... if we wait for the men to centre anything g other than male interests we'll be waiting forever

I know what you mean; I genuinely don’t know what to think about Abbvie being a sponsor.

And I had no idea Jennifer Bilek was writing about the LGFA & its pharma sponsor/connections as long ago as August 2022.

I have dc who play, I coach underage and sit on the committee, if my girls are put in this position of playing against or with male bodied players, I'll be making my views very clear to the club and the parents. But I'm at the age where I don't give a fuck anymore. I've put so much into coaching girls, encouraging them into sport, focusing on strength in mind and body, what they can do because they have female bodies instead of what they can't. By fuck will I let that be trampled over.
