Males over 12 now allowed to play in Ladies Gaelic Football

Just that. Males who claim to be women or girls can now play against girls and women on the pitch. Women and girls already get a much smaller share of state funding towards female sports. And, now this bullsht. No details of how they plucked this out of their collective ases arrived at this policy. Having female only sport meant that women and girls were included in sport.

The GAA support the Irish language, but surely any other language can now 'identify' as Irish. The Irish flag must be flown, but again surely they should be 'inclusive' and let any other flag identify as the Irish flag.

We unfortunately have a Taoiseach (PM) who supports this destruction of female sports. When the IRFU stated they would prioritise safety and fairness for women, he asked them to reconsider those aims, and talk to the men who wanted to play in women's sports. In short, just walk all over women in Ireland.

The red herring testosterone level is there, as if it turned men into women.
I confirm that [insert name of Applicant] has:
Transitioned/or is transitioning (as appropriate) from male to female and intends on living their life as a female, and
During the previous 12 months, has a total testosterone level in serum equal to or less than 10 nanomoles per litre (nmol/L).

This is bullish*t. Probably 20 times than most women. 10nmol/L is in the normal range for men. There are probably males on the Irish rugby team with that level. Irrespective; strange times if they're pretending that this level, or any level or lack of testosterone made a female out of a male.

Is it a referendum? Great news if it is, a tragic mistake for the genders, because no debate just kicked itself in the massive arse.

This is my feeling too. The literal opposite of No Debate. It becomes, legally mandated to discuss each side of the debate with equal time given to each side. And then, best of all, we get to go into a secret ballot box and quietly write down how we feel. No judgement, no lost friends, no lost jobs, no being cancelled for speaking up. Just every adult in the country quietly writing down what we think after weeks of genuine, legally mandated debate.

I really hope I'm not insanely naive but I think it's a massive own goal for the TRAs.

Could an xx chromosome woman identify as a trans woman and be allowed to compete with the same level of testosterone?

Good question. Does this mean the East German girls who broke so many records in the 70s and 80s are really guilty of nothing ?

Are any of you on Glinners mailing list? Last day tomorrow at 12 noon to write a submission to the commission about a change in legislation (sex to gender) ffs

Abhannmor · 22/04/2023 11:44

Exactly . Why is this Naughton bloke the head of Ladies GFA?

You don't see many women running men's teams or in charge of County Boards.

Coyoacan · 22/04/2023 03:24

Just reading this and it remnds me of how James Connolly found for an Independent Ireland because the heads of the unions were all English and were consistently selling out their Irish members. Now the heads of Women's sports seem to be men who are also consistently selling out the women.

The article mentions that LGFA bigwigs are refusing to answer questions or make comments on the new policy. So it’s basically them refusing to lay out their decision making process for scrutiny or to defend it except through meaningless platitudes about inclusivity.

As with so many other women’s sports, around the world, women’s Gaelic football was just starting to be taken seriously by the wider (Irish) culture and media, and women players were starting to get the respect they deserved and more sponsor support than they’d had before - so it was obviously ripe for infiltration. It’s like women’s sports are victims of their own success - men didn’t want to play in women’s sports until they could benefit from it.

That's exactly what I thought

It's only in the last 5+? Ish years you'd have winens sports updates in the news bulletins or sports review programmes.

Now look.

The only way they can get these decisions through is by underhand means. Secrecy, threats, obfuscation. They know that majority are horrified by these acts of destruction of female sport. Do they really think this is sustainable in the long term?

What happens when a female is hurt? It's only a matter of time.

I know 2 young people, one early 20's,one late teens, both male, both suffered serious head injuries, playing football/rugby.
What hope, then, has any girl playing against males in any similar sports?
It is seriously dangerous, and I will never understand why the LGFA agreed to this policy.
They really betrayed the very people they were supposed to represent.

1Week · 21/04/2023 11:16

My 14 year old is getting into the adolescent stage of wanting to drop out.
Normally I'd encourage her to stay.
I loved the GAA/LGFA and everything connected with it.
But they clearly don't care about us.
So I won't bother. I'll get DD doing something else.

@Rainbowshit What happens , I suspect , is the Insurance company say ' Wtf is this ? From now on your premiums are increasing by 1000%'

Agus sin sin.

Yes, husband continually tells me not to worry about it. It will all end in sports when the insurance bill comes through. Money talks.
But I still worry because having one transgender player on a women's team could potentially bring down the club. And then the women lose out again.

Came across this well-written article discussing the new LGFA eligibility criteria:

Abhannmor · 20/04/2023 23:37

You can see a grassroots walkout by the women who do all the unseen , unpaid work for junior level GAA.

The sort of women those craw thumping old Committee hypocrites are always praising in their post match speeches and at board meetings.

I live in rural Ireland and have always found the GAA structure a bit opaque. Our hurling team went on strike a few years ago but nobody could actually find out why? It's like Omerta....

takeawaydinner · 02/04/2023 17:46

If Na Gaeil Aeracha want to play with a man who they believe is a woman, that's their decision. The problem is that they are forcing every player on every team they play against to do the same.
I am assuming that the LGFA will sanction any team that doesn't bow to this cheating "inclusiveness"

Re the rugby player, the story is in one of the local papers
www.bracknellnews.co.uk/news/23343257.reading-rugby-player-wins-10m-high-court-case-paralysed/

Thanks @Chersfrozenface . That is bloody scarey. I hope that other player is banned for life. She should be in prison as that was a deliberate assault and she could have killed the opposing player.

Serious accidents are actually more common at lower levels of sport , where players are not as fit and less able to time their tackles. That's before you factor in thuggishness.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 25/02/2023 09:23

What is preventing a male-bodied teenager or adult who wants to play Gaelic football at parish level joining the men? A player with an interest in sport surely wants teammates and opponents who are well matched in size and strength so that they can enjoy the competition?

Sport. That's what it's about, surely?

No-one is suggesting keeping them out of sports participation - just saying that the women's game (and the women) should not be sacrificed.

A woman in England has been awarded £10m after being deliberately targeted by another player in a women's rugby match.

The offending player had said : ' That f*cking no 7. I'm going to break her ' after being winded in a tackle. She ' belly flopped ' on top of the victim , who will be in a wheelchair for life.

Contact sports are dangerous. This was another woman ffs. Now....what insurance company wants to front up £10m when some hulking bloke cripples a woman?

Awful for that poor woman. But it might put manners on the GAA. Ps the match was Reading v Bracknell but I can't make links work.

StephanieSuperpowers · 24/02/2023 18:44

Well I hope the pandering works out for them when the inevitable truth about all this has to be faced at last.
