It's censorship. Agreeing with censorship is bonkers.

So do you think that young autistic kids should be exposed to Scientology too?

I’m Autistic and so is my younger sister. This may or may not be reassuring…

All the gender stuff is a little after my time so I escaped it and am a RadFem.

My sister is 8 years younger than me and in her teens it was all just building up a head of steam. She and her pals were all queer, bi, pan or trans 😬 She was quite radicalised about it all and would stand up fervently for what she believed in at the time.

Few of her friends continued down those paths, most just realised they were Autistic, gay, lesbian or bi.

My sister is now a full blown RadFem and talks about some of the ridiculous instances that got her “peaked”.

So my point is that we can come back from it so long as no physical harm is done.
That’s what we should be focusing on; educating our Autistic daughters especially on why they are so vulnerable to this ideology (looking for somewhere to fit and not feeling like everyone else). Educating them about the very many Autistic female detransitioners and how horrifically their lives have been impacted forever.

That is a reassuring story. Ironically considering the subject of the thread, it is my autistic child who is very clear about the reality of biological sex and my neuro typical child who has got sucked into gender ideology via his friendship group! I have faith that, as a very logical person, he will come out of it once the peer pressure of the teenage years passes!

KatMcBundleFace · 15/02/2023 21:50

Good. She's vulnerable.

Stay away from these kids

Kids get so much of this stuff from the Internet (fandom spaces in particular are rife with it) and peers generally. School assemblies are an absolute drop in the ocean.

Yes, but a school teaching this has so much more authority. I agree that they can search up all sorts of things but most children can also understand that not every opinion expressed online is true and you can look up alternative views. We tell our children to respect what they are told by teachers. Schools absolutely should not be promoting gender ideology in any way.

@BoredOfThisMansWorld I agree. I have two children, a boy and a girl and as a liberal parent I've never pushed gender stereotypes on them. The idea that, having brought them up to know that both girls and boys can be sensitive or adventurous, wear pink, wear trousers, have long or short hair, suddenly they are supposed to believe that their sex might have something to do with their feelings rather than their biology seems entirely regressive!

Ofcourseshecan · 15/02/2023 20:31

This is excellent news. I hope other parents will take it up. Children should never be fed lies and propaganda; I despair of the teaching profession, seeing what they are telling children in place of facts.

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 15/02/2023 20:30

Trans people exist, nothing wrong with my gender non conforming kids knowing this.

Christians and Muslims exist too, and that's fine. We're atheist but interested to learn about other people's beliefs.

Unfortunately, gender ideology has been taught as fact, not "other people's beliefs".

I've spent years modelling to my children that it's fine that so many people mistake them for the opposite sex. Girls and boys are of equal worth. Sex only matters when it matters. And gender stereotypes are bullshit.

Along comes gender ideology to tell them that actually, "misgendering" someone is akin to violence! That, because of their personalities, they are the opposite sex after all! Trusted teachers in schools are teaching that gendered stereotypes are innate!

Protecting children from harmful, regressive views being taught as fact is not "censorship". Allowing gender non conforming children to thrive without input from adults who believe in gender stereotypes is hardly "blinkering" them.

@SunnySnowdrop @bagelbagelbagel As the mother of an autistic daughter I am genuinely interested in what some posters think is being unfairly censored by this mother. Do you think it is right to say to a child 'there's a chance you were born in the wrong body' ? Is it right to say to a girl 'if you don't like stereotypically girly things you might be a boy but your body is wrong for your brain ' ? Please explain if you think I am missing something here?

SunnySnowdrop · 15/02/2023 19:10

What evidence did she provide for that?

My child would be furious if I tried to censor them like this.

nofluffsgiven · 15/02/2023 19:07

I think kids need to be educated on these things. Everyone should be.

If parents choosing what books their 11-year-old can and cannot read makes someone a Nazi, then most parents are Nazis.

FFS.

Someone mentioned term was out in some places. Odd that a young person would use their spare time reading mother chat boards. Seriously, go outside and meet some people.

EHCPs can last until age 25. I cannot comprehend how it's ok to blinker adults in this way.

Wellies54 · 15/02/2023 18:52

How is this censorship? What an amazing mother!

As parents we have a responsibility to protect our children from harm. How dare anyone tell a child that they could have been born into the WRONG body?!!! How dare anyone suggest to a child that they might need medication to correct their body, that they should take medicine which will sterilise them and damage them in many other ways too. How dare anyone suggest to a child that they should undergo surgery to remove their breasts or alter their genitals.

Would you tell a child that starving or cutting themselves is a reasonable way to deal with the troubles in their life? Is protecting them from this kind of self harm censorship too?

This has nothing to do with encouraging children to express their personality or discover their sexuality in a healthy, supportive and accepting environment.

I'd like to hear more about this. Mostly interested to see how 'gender ideology' is being noted and defined as a set of beliefs that can be supported or opposed. That seems quite significant progress.

I know gender identity isn't a sexuality. But it falls under the LBGTQ+ umbrella and we had no discussion about anything relating to LBGTQ+.

Actually dd didn't do assemblies so that wouldn't have made a difference and she would have rebelled at 15 about clubs.

So would mine at 15.

bagelbagelbagel · 15/02/2023 18:12

I was educated under Section 28 so I didn't have any education on anything other than heterosexual relationships. I wish I had had the option.

Gender identity isn't a sexuality. Now, it can be employed to give the appearance of 'rectifying' a child's/young person's sexuality. Apparently, there are references to this being the alleged aim of some parents who brought their children to the Tavistock Clinic.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 15/02/2023 18:19

Dd is fully into it, wants testosterone etc. She's bright. I'm working on it.

Wouldn't have washed with mine.

It didn't with mine, until it did.
She's studying biology ffs.
She knows, I know she knows, but to stand up against all of your friends, your captured University?
Not easy for a young autistic woman.

Mine isn't trans, but I've lost her to her peers who are in the cult
She is autistic, as is her bf and they are both v high functioning.
I miss her.
