Out of all ofthem that I have heard off Kate Forbes seems ok.

Faffertea · 15/02/2023 10:52

@ArabellaScott
and those better informed than me on Scottish politics is there any chance for Joanna Cherry or Ash Regan in this?

donquixotedelamancha · 15/02/2023 10:51

Before we all start breaking out the champagne, is she just going to be replaced by another batshit genderist?

I suspect the answer is very much yes. Hopefully they will be more cautious, at least, after how it hurt her.

I wonder what information is about to break?

That was my thought. She was wounded but still popular within the party and the political class. I think it's likely (given the rush) that some financial improriety is soon to come ou.

ArabellaScott · 15/02/2023 10:51

Stephen 'Rabid Gammon' Flynn? No.

littlbrowndog · 15/02/2023 10:50

Flynn very ambitious

or maybe that’s why Robertson stood down from being leader at Westminster. Or was he pushed

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 15/02/2023 10:46

I agree. It’s loads of things coming together - the GRR/Trans Rapist story was the best headline grabber but there is a lot of murky stuff in lobby group funding (anti alcohol, Gender & others) and poorly thought through policy (bottle scheme) and just plain old failure to complete a project (the ferry debacle). Plus the financial irregularities between her husband and the party.

All party leaders have a limited life span, Nic’s ending is for myriad reasons, but it will go down in history as the GRR, just because those headlines (and Adam-Isla Bryson’s pink leggings) are so memorable.

Yep. She's a good speech-maker, but Scotland's not doing well overall. She's done really badly. By all metrics - health, education, infrastructure, etc.

Before we even get onto ferries, finances or fucking gender.

MavisFlump · 15/02/2023 10:50

Woohoo and hurray!!
About bloody time the stupid female did something useful 👏👏

silverclock222 · 15/02/2023 10:50

PS does anyone know if the Scottish government has actually formally legally put in a challenge to the setion 35 order from the UK government?
I'm wondering if after all the fuss what if the Scottish government quietly so no one notices doesn't bother putting the legal challange in. Especially with Sturgeon now having self immolated.

I fully expect this to be the end of that sorry saga.
Scotgov can just spin it as financial if they like (not worth the legal costs when the country is struggling with CoL etc).

Faffertea · 15/02/2023 10:49

@Helleofabore
Is that another new gender? Because I have to say there are some days when I think I could identify as such.

ArabellaScott · 15/02/2023 10:49

'who the Scottish public think should succeed Nicola Sturgeon:'

Kate Forbes: 7%
John Swinney: 6%
Angus Robertson: 5%
Stephen Flynn: 3%
Mhari McAllen: 3%
Keith Brown: 2%
Neil Gray: 1%

Other: 4%
Don’t Know: 69%

No apology needed. One of my favourite procrastination methods hobbies used to be looking up words in paper dictionaries and getting sidetracked for ages.

I have a two volume Oxford Dictionary within hand's reach and I still use them. Admittedly, it's very easy to look things up online now.

True, true. There are precious few politicians willing to stick up for the rapists in women's jails.

I'm with you @maddy68

Helleofabore · 15/02/2023 10:46

I suggest that she didn't want to face another set of questions about 'Murdergender' 😬

Closure of Sandyford (Scotland’s GIDS) announced today too!

Faffertea · 15/02/2023 10:47

@RealFeminist
😂😂😂 brilliant!

I am Scottish and live in Scotland.

I don't think it's one factor. It's a combination of pressure and things which have built up. The multiple accusations of mishandling funds and missing money. The fiasco with two ferries which were supposed to cost £72 million and have to date costs £500 million and are still not finished. The fact that she's beholden to the loopers in the Greens to get any legislation through parliament. The news this morning that several SNP MSPs are not backing her controversial bottle deposit scheme which was due to roll out this summer - creating a trade difference between Scotland the the rest of the UK. The Isla Bryson / Tiffany Scott stories which was for many ordinary Scots the WTF moment. The recent poll which shows support for independence at 37%.

Sorry to be the cause of unexpected, frantic googling!

😃

No apology needed. One of my favourite procrastination methods hobbies used to be looking up words in paper dictionaries and getting sidetracked for ages. Nowadays, just substitute pixels for paper.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 15/02/2023 10:45

@HufflepuffRavenclaw 37%? Wow. I hadn't realised it had gone that low.

spiderplantparty · 15/02/2023 10:44

I agree it is most likely a combination of issues. Many people have been concerned about the use of funds and loans. The bottle deposit scheme has a lot of critics (not that people are against recycling, just the scheme sounded expensive and cumbersome when we already have council ran schemes) and the cost of the ferries is eye watering. The timing of Isla Bryson couldn't have been worse.

ExistenceOptional · 15/02/2023 10:44

That is sad she is a brilliant politician.

speakout · 15/02/2023 10:44

She chose an unstable hill to die on- I have been expecting this for a couple of weeks.

From twitter:

Nicola Sturgeon has announced she is stepping down.

Not a surprise to those of us that know what is in Stewart McDonalds emails.

Wouldn’t it be a horrible thing, if allegedly, certain very senior, most senior people in the SNP had been using trans politics issues to deliberately heave ‘stalwarts’ out the SNP membership and reduce demands for independence?

Very inconvenient if you discussed that by email.

Allegedly of course. Just hypothetical.
