I’d love to see a tiny % of the anger here towards NS for the decision with prisons towards the Tory party for the shambles they have created with the court system which means rapists aren’t prosecuted and the Met Police are a disgrace. That’s a far bigger threat to women than trans people are.

The reason we are so angry with NS is because we are (majority) centre lefties and Nicola Sturgeon claimed to be a feminist!
Tories are doing exactly what we expect of them re: Women’s rights, ie, fuck all, whereas Sturgeon said thing while doing the opposite.
Also, wrong section of the site. Do a site wide search for the ‘The Met’ and you’ll find plenty of anger.

So be better than them. When you make hateful comments the hatful people don’t hear it. The trans kids do and your kids so and it creates more and more fear and hatred.

Show me these hateful comments please

I’m Scottish, criminal justice is a devolved issue, and we have our own issues with the prosecution of rapists to be angry at NS for, along with many other issues outwith the trans shambles. But she absolutely nailed her colours to the trans mask, and it’s cost her her job.

Its not hateful to say that people can’t change their biological sex.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 15/02/2023 14:02

For those praising her achievements - I may have posted this already (poor quality, but the direction of travel is clear) :

SinnerBoy · 15/02/2023 14:01

I don't think that anyone here has criticised her appearance, although I'm happy to be corrected?

ILikeDungs · 15/02/2023 14:01

hongkongmum · 15/02/2023 13:31

You may disagree with her but she is trying to get this difficult issue right. A teenager trans girl was murdered this week. Isn’t it time to take some of the heat and the hatred out of this debate and focus on being kind and treating people with dignity?

She was trying to get this difficult issue right for one group of people, and seriously messing up another group in the process.

If she was truly sincere in "getting it right" she would have also listened to women's groups. She pointedly ignored input from women, when it accidentally occurred.

And please, less of the "hate". I don't hate, goddammit.

FrostyFifi · 15/02/2023 14:00

she led Scotland through COVID in an a way that Labour and Tories could only dream of

If the dream was the long-term destruction of business and the economy then yes she certainly did.

giggly · 15/02/2023 14:00

Squamata · 15/02/2023 10:33

That's a shame. I think she's great.

Appalled at the misogynist vibe on here calling her a witch etc.

This! From presumably majority of woman.
The GR bill was the only sticking point for me.

I hate it when people feel the need to
name call and comment on her appearance.

Do women in prison count as people?

Are you suggesting we don't question politicians or criticise them in case it prompts violent crime, because that would be a really odd take.

They are two separate issues and I am perfectly capable of being frustrated, annoyed and saddened by both of them in equal measure but this is a thread about NS.

The link between the issues is the fact that society does not value women and their safety. Women are only to be given the rights that men feel they should have. If what we want as women impinges on what men want for themselves women are to be ridiculed, ignored, threatened and even harmed. NS with her GRR completely undermined the safety of women and ignored their voices that is why people feel so strongly. If women won't protect women then what chance do we have against the institutionalised misogyny of the Met?

BellaAmorosa · 15/02/2023 13:56

@hongkongmum
Why not start a thread of your own? Stop derailing this one, which is about Sturgeon's resignation.

DotAndCarryOne2 · 15/02/2023 13:56

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 15/02/2023 10:04

Hoo fucking ray

pay attention Kier

Glad Sturgeon has called it a day - not before time. But I think the last thing Labour needs now is a leadership contest. Starmer has banned Corbyn from standing at the next election, and the equalities watchdog has released the party from monitoring. It’s a start. Hopefully this is the start of a few victories for common sense.

I work in the legal system and agree with you 100% on the threat of male violence towards women. But you can be concerned about that and also kind to trans kids and their families. That doesn’t mean allowing rapists into prisons but it means can we not navigate this issue with some empathy, on both sides and stop fuelling the hatred? How is that a controversial thing to say?

Oh and I would also like to add. You said: "That doesn’t mean allowing rapists into prisons".

That's exactly what it does mean. Why do you think Sturgeon ended up having to resign?

Why can't both issues be solved?

Firstly, there's no such thing as a trans kid. There's confused and distressed children, and desperate, bewildered parents being manipulated by activists larping as health professionals.

Secondly, I don't owe anyone kindness. #bekind is a dogwhistly intended to silence women, stop us asking questions, and erode our boundaries.

Thirdly, I don't owe anyone empathy. What we women are owed, in law, are spaces and facilities free of men when that is needed. And we're not giving them up.

Bitofhelpoverhere · 15/02/2023 13:54

I actually think the GRR is part of her resignation reasons. Alex Salmond was just interviewed and, although he did not name GRR directly, he spoke of how the problem for the independence movement was when that movement was associated with the workings of government, and how that was fine when government was perceived well, but not when they were not, and then he spoke of the past few weeks in Scotland

And the fact that neither he nor NS nor anyone else who supports independence or GRR are naming it. At all. That’s the clearest sign that they have realized how toxic it is. And when the SNPs’ recent strategy has been the desperate one of slurring and calling names anyone who disagrees with them, as they did on a question time this week, and NS desperately trying to reposition herself as reasonable rather than calling people bigots and racists in her resignation speech, I think we can see the GRR is now seen as a toxic and mistaken political move they want to disassociate themselves and the independence cause from.

I do hope Plaid Cymru and Mark Drakeford take note!

nilsmousehammer · 15/02/2023 13:53

Women shut up about the rapes and exclusions and access and death and rape threats and look at my squirrel!

No.

It is vile seeing what people will use to try and stop women saying things men do not want publicly discussed.

nilsmousehammer · 15/02/2023 13:52

Teenaged knife crime is abhorrent. It's appalling. A teen died locally not long ago, it is a huge and serious issue. So is bullying.

And so is the issue of sex offender men being put in women's prisons, and the issue in general of female people needing female spaces and biological recognition.

Both things can be dealt with. And speculating about a crime without the full facts being known anyway is unhelpful to the case and particularly to the family that have lost their child.

Which is worse

You can’t change sex and women deserve single sex spaces or decapitate terfs

Violence and inciting violence is at women not by them

What's makes that Brainna any different from Isla?

Women cannot afford to allow safeguarding to slip for any men. Far to many will find the loopholes and exploit them.

Can I recommend that you go and post this on twitter and on social media sites where women who disagree with allowing males into female single sex spaces are threatened and abused as well as here?

And while you are here, could you please post where you have found 'hatred' towards trans people on this board?

Because that is a very serious accusation if you were meaning this board.

Unless women have been going round threatening rape and decapitation, I'm not seeing the "both sides" business here
