Ash Regan I don't know much about, but I know she has courage and integrity. That'll do over Humza Yousaf.

HopRockers · 19/02/2023 14:55

Shelefttheweb · 19/02/2023 14:11

Ash Regan resigned her ministerial position to rebel on the GRR bill. That showed integrity.

Plus Has to be better than Humza. is an EXTREMELY low bar 😩

One might point out that JK Rowling supported McDermid when McDermid was being attacked on social media. McDermid and Sturgeon were of course embarrassingly and conspicuously silent re JKR.

Quite.

Humza on his wee scooter. You're welcome.

I bet that lad was pleased he had mask on!

Personally I would have laughed out loud (in fact when I watched this, I did).

There is a woman, Ash Regan, who seems to have thrown her hat (or rather her suffragette-coloured scarf) into the ring. I haven't heard of her, but is she a hopeful? Has to be better than Humza.

This is an interesting piece from Brian Wilson, ex Labour MP:

www.spectator.co.uk/article/sturgeons-failure/

'Sturgeon’s politics revolved around one contrived ‘row’ after another.'

She drained every semblance of humour and camaraderie from public and political life. Scotland should be rejoicing to see the back of her.’

Oooft. Harsh but absolutely spot on.

Val has got a serious case of "our dear leader syndrome"

What a puff piece from an otherwise good crime writer who presumably got rather giddy at meeting a woman in power.

And the issue about acceptance since 1979. Val, that's the people of Scotland. It's been 44 years and it's changed in a similar way to the rest of the UK. Not because of Nicola Sturgeon!

I don't like Val McDermid at the best of times but that piece was nauseating.

I’m not surprised about val mcdermid’s piece in the times.

I do think she does have a wee bit of a chip on her shoulder and she likes to be thought as special; wasn’t she streamlined into an elite class with Gordon Brown at Kirkcaldy High school?maybe that’s where it’s coming from.
See the bbc Scotland video she did with a Glaswegian writer in September 2021 ( I think it’s had an edit since there seems to be a blip)?
It’s her experience, but get over yourself hen.
I had to tone down my accent when I went to Edinburgh university in the 1990s.

I remember her book and tv adaptation, wire in the blood; I didn’t feel the need to read anymore more of her works.

Not only in the UK @LexMitior
I grew up in a small, Catholic village in Northern Bavaria and the changes in people's attitudes between 1979 and 2014 are mindboggling.

If you look at the gender bobbins as a symptom, rather than a cause, it may be instructive. What kind of a government builds itself around anti science, anti women policies that are unsupported by the majority of the population?

Baldieheid · 19/02/2023 09:07

She's not just left the water source, she ensured she poisoned the whole river before she left. She's left a huge steaming pile of NS doodoo behind her and we're going to have to spend years shovelling it out of the way before we can get to the real work that needs doing.
We need the lunatic greens to push off too, and the snp, scottish labour and wimpy libdems to find their goddamned spines so they can actually do their sodding jobs representing EVERYONE, not just the fragrant, knife wielding "Beth".

Very long piece in the Telegraph, which makes for painful reading for Sturgeon. The gender policy gets due prominence:

www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2023/02/19/nicola-sturgeons-dreamland-scotland-faces-painful-reckoning/

"The country over which she has presided since 2014 is cracking apart. Not only did she pursue a constitutional policy that has left the Scottish people deeply divided, but she also governed at a level of incompetence to which she feigns to be oblivious but to which her electorate, and indeed many of her party's supporters, most certainly are not.
The last straw was her gender identity policy, which allowed a rapist to be put in a women's prisonn_ because he claimed to identify as female, and included proposed further reforms that forced the promise of a veto from Westminster.
Many Scots, including supporters of separatism, had had enoughh_, and she knew it. She is off; they, or at least some of the less deluded, may now find they have no choice but to face the reality of the near-failing state that she has created."

And

"The prime example of this gulf between the SNP's fantasies and the real world was Ms Sturgeon's proposal over the rights of people who choose to identify as a gender different from the one they had at birth. The episode typified her almost mindless readiness to jump on any minority bandwagon, usually with cynical intent, if it helped her signal her supposed virtue and establish the loyalty of a new client-group in her coalition.
It appears that she and her friends also believed it brought the added bonus of provoking the hated Westminster parliament into overruling Holyrood, and acting like the colonial oppressor the SNP chooses to imagine it is.

The issue, they might have hoped, would provide a further stick with which she could beat England during an election campaign that she had already decided would be a de facto referendum on separatism. It quickly became obvious, however, that few Scots shared either her supposed interest in transgender questions or her view of them.
Many of her voters also worried about using the next British General Election as a referendum on independence. They feared it might well drive away those potential voters who took the more realistic view that, whatever the merits of other SNP policies, they were not ready for full independence: any more than they thought it was a good idea to let a sex offender born male loose in a women’s prison, or allow 16-year-olds the right to decide what gender they aree_ as easily as they can choose the colour of their shirt.
This farrago played an obvious part in driving her from office. But even before it, she was aware of the speed with which she was running out of road, although her devotees refused to see it. Rumours about her possible departure this year were circulating before last Christmas, and had picked up in the last month or so. Every day, new issues were serving to undermine her that touched on vital questions of her, and her party’s, competence."

Igneococcus · 19/02/2023 07:49

Has anybody linked to the hagiography of NS by Val McDiarmid (sp?) yet?
I'll kick dp off the other computer and get a sharetoken for it.

Never thought of that actually. It’s an interesting idea! I mean, why not? I think I’ll be Egyptian , descended from Cleopatra.

I identify as a 25 year old blonde male Danish architect- for a while anyway.

This is bizarre. How does he know? Have all those people publicly stated their ethnicity? If they are all in fact white, is that much of a surprise given the country in which these posts are found?

Like many other self-ID fans, when the day comes (and it will) that white people declare they're another ethnicity and everyone around them must believe it OR ELSE, he'll get a ride awakening.

ArabellaScott · 18/02/2023 19:05

Scotland is as white as a fridge, tbh, so he could reasonably have pulled all these names out of thin air and declare they are white without even checking. He's implying, of course, that there is some kind of institutional racism at play, which would be possible, I guess, but quite a leap to make given the population statistics of the country he's talking about.

I guess they're all white, wonder how many are men.

Humza did not seem fussed about the sex of the people he listed. Who are, as you've guessed, all white. Which made him very, very angry.

A twitter thread on what it was like to be a member of the SNP in Nicola Sturgeon's constituency.

donquixotedelamancha · 18/02/2023 16:39

He dropped the case recently. The cynic in me is wondering if this is why.

I imagine he dropped it because after the inspection found admissions were disorganised but there was no evidence of discrimination he was very unlikely to succeed.
