Can we fucking ban the use of the word "nuanced" now? Yes, it can be a fairly useful term but its use as a virtue-signalling way of pretending a topic that is not complicated is complicated has ruined it for me forever.

Only females have periods. Oscar self-excludes from the "conversation" (what conversation?) on the basis of their personal belief system. That's their choice, not a nuanced feature of the reproductive system.

midgetastic · 07/02/2023 19:21

I mean I guess we are at a impasse

Sone people are offended if the word woman only refers to sex , so transmen
Are women

I am deeply upset and offended if people use the word to imply anything else about me- that I am gender woman

Why should the first group of people get a different level of respect than I do?

ComfortablyDazed · 07/02/2023 19:20

Qhite why transmen desperately want to be included in a conversation about something so inherently female, beats me.

Surely it’s massively triggering, and they would just do something really simple and effective - like, I dunno, utilise one of the many easily available and effective means of stopping their period altogether………..? Confused

Soulstirring · 07/02/2023 19:20

it’s clearly just goady. There is nothing remotely correct about what’s said.

Always4Brenner · 07/02/2023 19:19

Thank god I’m finished now with periods and Menopause as well 10 years of hell with that one. They can have the pain I suffered from day one of periods gladly. Ffs 🤦‍♀️ I give up I simply give up now.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/02/2023 19:19

Yet again, 'sex' and 'gender' are two completely different concepts when it suits them to 'educate' people; but they're effectively the same thing when that suits their arguments. So much dissonance and blatant attempts to deceive.

Violinist64 · 07/02/2023 19:19

Well if men would like to have periods with all the mess, pain (at times) and expense they cause they are welcome to them. I’m glad mine finished years ago. Just when we think we couldn’t get any more stupid articles, another one comes along that is even dafter.

toomanycoffees · 07/02/2023 19:18

Very glad to say I'm done with periods and don't give a hoot Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/02/2023 19:05

I mean, I rarely have conversations about menstruation. What’s there to say? What’s there to leave someone out of?

I genuinely believe we'll see 'transabled' people before too long, who will rail at all of the bigoted somethingorotherophobes (i.e. genuinely disabled people) for selfishly and arrogantly trying to keep the things they actually can't do to themselves - denying the inclusive people who fancy a day or two at identifying themselves as needing a wheelchair - and make accessible facilities 'all about them'.

Unfortunately I think this is already happening. I seem to remember seeing an article about a man( possibly from a Scandinavian country) who identifies as disabled and uses a wheelchair.

midgetastic · 07/02/2023 19:17

Woman is adult human female

Nothing more

Woman is not gender

AinmÁlainn · 07/02/2023 19:17

Anyone else getting nothing but modibodi ads on this page? Hmm

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/02/2023 19:17

They are facing biology. They just don't want to be called women.

But why is it always the vast majority who are expected to change to accommodate their beliefs and feelings? Why can't they refer to themselves as 'period-havers' or 'menstruators' and leave the women and girls whom everybody knows full-well and uncontroversially are women and girls alone to be referred to as such.

If they want to be considered effectively men - and absolutely not women - why are they fighting so hard to insist that 'not all people who menstruate are women' and never that 'not all men [the category they believe they belong to] do not menstruate' ?

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 07/02/2023 19:17

Honestly, if wishing periods away could make it so then i wish my periods on any man who wants to claim them for his own.

Happylittlechicken · 07/02/2023 19:15

Well to be fair, it does seem to be the women who wish to be known as men who keep harping on this subject. No one cares how they identify or whether or not they menstruate. They’re the ones keeping talking about it though.
As PP have said, most women have too much going on in their lives to sit and have long navel gazing conversations about how they identify.

ComfortablyDazed · 07/02/2023 19:14

Of course periods are genderless - come on, this isn’t news to any of us.

‘Gender’ is utterly meaningless. An indefinable (non-definable) set of regressive stereotypes.

Periods are 100% sex-based.

This post is not about transwomen claiming to have periods, which always sparks such fury on here.

This is about transmen actually having them. The fact that the words are muddled is a problem. But all they are saying is that biological women with dysphoria who want to be known as men still menstruate. And they don't want to have to revert to identifying as women to be able to say so.

We who have daughters and need to educate them about their biology can live without this muddling. It has to be clear, straight and honest, not arsing around with accurate language to facilitate someone's self image.

If they want to think this nonsense, let them think it at home rather than trying to make it the public discourse around periods.

Ive thought this for a while

Some people just have to have something to moan about don’t they?

I mean, I rarely have conversations about menstruation. What’s there to say? What’s there to leave someone out of?

I might say “aah me period pains are gripping me” and if a woman who identifies as non-binary, or a man responded “ooh yeah, mine were pretty brutal last week” - I wouldn’t say “sorry, but this conversation is only for women who don’t identify as something else”, I’d say “really? Were you alright?”.

Such tedious, made-up barrel-scraping for gripes.

I was just thinking similar.
I mean I dont know about every woman, everywhere, but I reckon I've talked about my period a handful of times in my life. Have I mentioned discomfort pain, swelling, sure, but that's not my idea of talking about my period. Its not the dirty details, it's not which products to use for which day, it's not that detailed. Except for those handful of times when I had to see a GP.

So what is this conversation? I think it would probably make me very uncomfortable if someone, anyone started a convo about my periods. I would assume a pervert/fetishist and shut down or not respond to such a convo

We should not obsfucate what is happening because some people are sufficiently struggling that they can't face biology

They are facing biology. They just don't want to be called women.

It's getting to the stage where I'm thinking people who believe this shite are actually spectacularly stupid

The problem is that we've always had people who are summarily unable to understand what to most people is blatantly obvious, for a variety of reasons; but the key difference is that it is usually left to those who DO understand to manage/educate/legislate/organise things that depend on that particular area of knowledge.

We are now seeing this all completely turned on its head, with those who do not understand the absolute basics assuming that they do; and that it's everybody else who doesn't - and they are then arrogantly taking it upon themselves to attempt to de-educate everybody else!

It's basically like turning to a 4yo child to tell all of us adults what we need to do to end poverty and homelessness and make sure that everybody in the world has what they want - and then humbly and gratefully accepting the simple, straightforward solutions with which they have to confidently educate us, involving Santa, Lego and the genie from Aladdin.

I know what is a gender less function…. Having a shit!
