"periods: a genderless function" FFS!!!

The result of the latest ad showing this rubbish is why I have unsubscribed and will no longer engage with the company.
How can they profess to be relevant, useful and best regarding periods, sanitary protection and products, if they can’t even understand the difference between sex and gender, male and female?
If a company/health care provider/anyone decides to focus on identity/personality/delusion rather than science/medicine/reality, then I will no longer place my trust, money or belief in them.
FFS it is mass delusion, and it is horrifying.

This post is not about transwomen claiming to have periods, which always sparks such fury on here.

This is about transmen actually having them. The fact that the words are muddled is a problem. But all they are saying is that biological women with dysphoria who want to be known as men still menstruate. And they don't want to have to revert to identifying as women to be able to say so.

Why do they have to identify as anything to be able to say they have periods? I don't understand.

CharlieParley · 07/02/2023 23:55

You are proving the point in the post! In the menstruation huts would be men and women. Menstruation extends to people with female biology who identify as men. That's what it's saying.

Nonsense. Men are male. They do not menstruate. Only women and girls have periods.

And you're misunderstanding the point made by the poster you're reacting to - only female people are forced to endure menstruation huts, because the societies they live in adhere to misogynist belief systems that see menstruating women and girls as dirty, disgusting and/or dangerous to men. As if they would leave any man besmirched who had to interact with them while they are menstruating.

They would put any menstruating female identifying as a man into these huts not because they accept that men can menstruate (their belief systems make this an impossibility anyway) but precisely because they would not accept that women and girls could ever change sex. Only women and girls menstruate, so anyone who menstruates must therefore be a woman or a girl and thus belongs in the huts.

CharlieParley · 07/02/2023 23:43

This narrative, that not all women experience menstruation, is irresponsible.

At least 99.4% to 99.7% of all female people experience menstruation at least once in their lives. Those who do not, need to see a doctor, because the conditions preventing menarche (the name for the first period) often need medical treatment.

That makes this as near universal a female condition as it is possible to find. Especially considering that with medical treatment many girls in that 0.3% to 0.6% experience menarche, too.

Referring to women not menstruating (after menarche), because of health or age - no idea what bodily factors are if not either one of the former, but leaving out pregnancy and breastfeeding is just more dishonesty.

No they wouldn't, because none of the women and girls banished to menstrual huts every month are daft enough to think womanhood is something you can choose to identify into or out of.

Gender ideology is a belief system primarily for privileged white people who want to play at being oppressed.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/02/2023 22:41

Qhite why transmen desperately want to be included in a conversation about something so inherently female, beats me.

I know it's not the same thing, but you don't tend to hear of men with gynaecomastia making a big scene about how it's not just women who have breasts.

Obviously, they shouldn't feel any shame in it whatsoever; but usually, people would prefer not to broadcast far and wide when they have a physical reality that is associated with the opposite sex to what they are (or to what they believe they are).

No, you are misunderstanding the reality of what 'gender' actually is. Those huts would have women and girls in them, because their sex and the gender norms of that society. They wouldn't be able to 'identify' out of that.

This is why we feminists are 'gender critical', we want to liberate women from the constraints of gender.

kelsae · 07/02/2023 22:00

More scared that we will have more teenage pregnancy

mostlysunnywithshowers · 07/02/2023 21:55

Is this trans agenda part of a depopulation agenda by any chance? With this level of general confusion over basic facts of life, I think we are heading for a birth bust!

Ok let’s put it another way, if a girl in Afghanistan ‘identified as a man’ would she be allowed to go to school? Girls in Nepal aren’t allowed to ‘identify as men’ either. If a girl in Uganda ‘identifies as a man’ does she escape FGM? They’re still married off at 10. It only seems to be white middle class women and girls who have the time or energy to worry about ‘identity’.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 07/02/2023 21:31

What a load of absolute shite. If they had ever experienced periods they wouldn't fucking want them that's for sure. Also they are directly linked with pregnancy.. which they also can't do.

FrancescaContini · 07/02/2023 21:17

ditalini · 07/02/2023 19:23

Can we fucking ban the use of the word "nuanced" now? Yes, it can be a fairly useful term but its use as a virtue-signalling way of pretending a topic that is not complicated is complicated has ruined it for me forever.

Only females have periods. Oscar self-excludes from the "conversation" (what conversation?) on the basis of their personal belief system. That's their choice, not a nuanced feature of the reproductive system.

Oh but you’re missing the point. It’s ALL ABOUT Oscar.

nepeta · 07/02/2023 20:48

Nobody asked the vast majority of people if they would be fine with 'woman' suddenly not having anything to do with being of the female sex. There is no earthly reason to have preferred pronouns and all the rest of that crap if the groups they define have to do with nothing but personality types, dress and so on, and sexism and misogyny will not budge, but will keep aiming at those of us who belong to the sex from which all people capable of menstruating come.

I am angry at the way my whole self-definition, and my ability to do feminism, are to be scrapped so that a very tiny minority can choose theirs without any consideration to the facts that it is the society which ultimately determines who are to be treated as women and who as men. This is insult on top of injury.

NewPanDrawer · 07/02/2023 20:44

Happylittlechicken · 07/02/2023 19:50

So if a girl in Nepal decided to ‘identify as a man’, what are the odds she’d still be sent to the menstruation huts every month. Just shows this whole periods are gender less crap for the bullshit it is. Of course they’re genderless, biology doesn’t give a crap about your ‘identity’ ,just your sex.

Watch the video.

I strongly object to “bad actors” declaring themselves to be trans to get into women’s prisons. However, I work sometimes with students who think their gender is not the same as their sex, and I think this could be helpful for them.

They may well change their minds as they get older.

I think there should be better gate keeping, information and counselling around cross sex hormones, so people are prepared for all the awkward situations they are going to face for doing this to themselves. It’s a matter for the individuals administering the drugs and those taking them. It’s their responsibility.

saleorbouy · 07/02/2023 20:23

Why can't we just carry on as we did previously why must we change our language and label ourselves differently just to accommodate the 0.02% of society who wish to transition.
I respect their decision but it's a personal one, why should it affect others who are happy within our sexuality and gender.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/02/2023 19:46

And I can bet if a 'nonbinary' female or transman has a period in certain societies, they're liable to be subjected to the same gendered discrimination as other females regardless of how they may 'identify'.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/02/2023 19:44

Periods are sexed.
There are some 'gendered' forms of discrimination women are subjected to because of periods - being barred from some places of worship or sent out into huts for the duration.

That's how sex and 'gender' actually relate to each other.

StalkedByASpider · 07/02/2023 19:28

Oh hold on - is this Modi Bodi?

If so, they've proven before that they're a bunch of complete fucking arseholes when it comes to women and women's language.

They're already on my veto list. There's a thread on here somewhere before about them. I complained to them at the time and they didn't give a fuck.

I got this reply from them in 2021 when there was a real outcry on here about their language. I sent them the link and told them to have a bloody good read of what women felt about their language (basically they were happy to say men and male but weren't using the words women/woman/girl/female).

I've copied and pasted in case you can't read the screenshot. Basically, they don't give a shit what women think:

*"Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us to share your concerns and to share the mumsnet link with us.

After reviewing all of our customer feedback received across socials, mumsnet, and emails, our CEO and Founder, Kristy Chong, has provided the following statement:

Modibodi strives to be inclusive of all bodies and all leaks be it periods, pee, perspiration, or pregnancy. We refer to both women and girls with periods and ‘people who menstruate’ at Modibodi and we stand by our position to use ‘people who menstruate” because we always strive to be as inclusive as possible in our communication language to avoid gender-biased expressions or expressions that reinforce gender stereotypes.

Modibodi’s purpose is to create limitless positive impact on people and our planet whilst normalising conversations around periods, leaks, diversity and inclusiveness. What’s required now, is a community who works together to remove the shame and stigma associated with periods, and the encouragement of healthy and open conversations.

We acknowledge language around gender identity is constantly evolving, and we’re open to learning, and value our community feedback about our language choices and how they make them feel."*

The trans train wagon want everyone on board saying men have periods too. It is nuts and deeply confusing.

Why cant they just say transmen can also have periods. To me that is acceptable and expecting everyone to repeat an untruth.

EndlessTea · 07/02/2023 19:29

I hate the word nuance too. It’s a smug twat’s word.
