Hogwarts Legacy gets great reviews

The Hogwarts Legacy reviews have dropped from major game review sites before release tomorrow and they are great:

Review ratings :
• PSU - 9.5
• IGN - 9
• JVCOM - 9
• Xbox Era - 9
• Power Up - 9
• Press Start - 9
• Well Played - 9
• Pushsquare - 8
• Gamerant - 4.5/5
• Screen Rant - 4.5/5
• VGC - 4/5
• Metacritic - 87

Typical review below is an example it has some of the usual anti JKR performative nonsense, but otherwise the review shows how good the game is and how close it ties into the magic of the books. :
metro.co.uk/2023/02/06/hogwarts-legacy-review-the-best-harry-potter-video-game-ever-made-18230040/

The massive failure of the campaign against Hogwarts Legacy is another example of TRA self sabotage. The game itself is good and is going to do more massive sales now it is out, and the controversy helped give it great name recognition. Better than that it demonstrates that "transphobia" is a meaningless term which people increasingly ignore. It means that the gender fanatics attempt to control how people think is collapsing more and more.

Their latest TRA ploy is to call for a boycott of Twitch because it is showing Hogwarts Legacy adverts which again is going to fail and will further alienate people:
www.thegamer.com/hogwarts-legacy-twitch-ads-boycott/

What makes this all more sweet is JKR is benefitting massively from this because TRAs are so bigoted and can't tolerate dissent. This is nothing to do with helping anyone "trans" this is just about "moral" purity. It is even more blatant now it has been revealed there is a "trans" charater in the game as well as there being no rules about whether you are a witch or wizard. Yes turns out a JKR based game doesn't care whether people call themselves witches or wizards or how they dress exactly as JKR states:
"Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like."

Hogwarts Legacy "Trans" Character details
www.gamerevolution.com/news/934065-hogwarts-legacy-trans-character-transgender-sirona-ryan

Yes Hogwarts Legacy is more supportive of having an avatar which can gender non conform than most other games. Which makes sense because JKR doesn't care about that and the game reflects the universe she created.

The TRAs would never challenge the Call Of Duty franchise beloved by right wingers and where Activision the company behind it who have paid directly into Republican party coffers. No they only go after the game where a woman gets some of the profits, a woman who actively opposes the right and tried to stop Trump being elected in 2016.

If the TRAs hated the popularity of Hogwarts Legacy before it launched, they are really really going to hate how big it is going to be. They also can look forward Hogwarts {Rowling] Legacy 2 which their nonsense has helped make inevitable.

Kez is fully pathetic. Wa wa ws some game exists that is based on the background setting of some book written by some author that said some things. Call her a wambulance.

Someone I was reading on Twitter said it was hilarious that the way she described the ordeal of covering the game made it sound like she was a war correspondent, rather than a game reviewer.

Also, for @CrossPurposes

As a gamer I spend some time on Discord, as do the Trans community. The majority of the Trans community not just on Discord but also on the internet in general are vulnerable people with mental health issues and a big percentage of them are teenagers - this is how they get sucked in. They use the internet as their social life and therefor spend hours in these Discord echo chambers being coddled and encouraged by other people. Reddit and Discord are particularly bad for being "safe spaces for the Trans community to say whatever they want" and it enables them to make violent threats and rant and rave in a way they would never get away with if they had a real life with a normal job. Of course it then starts to spill over into their daily life and you see it in education settings in particular where everyone is trying to be unique and edgy and cool in a very similar way that being alternative/goth/punk was - the difference being that the latter doesn't have the potential to severely damage your mental and physical health.

When you have an audience that doesn't only make you feel safe but also makes you feel invisible, and big corporations and the government lap it up like the complete fannys they are, that's why they bother and torture themselves over it. They know the Government, the schools, the legal system and their employers will back them and sack anyone else out of fear and they are right, because if I went into work and said any of this to anyone I would be sacked with immediate effect and probably reported to the police for discrimination.

I pre-ordered the Deluxe edition and am currently 10 hours deep into playing, as is my son.

I was ~~overwhelmingly excited~~ keen to play regardless, but now I get to play and have the smug sense of satisfaction that it's pissing the extremists off and supporting a public figure who has our backs.

They can’t bear the thought of being cast out of their friendship groups for wrongthink.

So they squeeze their eyes shut and stick their fingers in their ears whenever a transgender paedo or rapist is in the news.

And when they do hear about them suddenly self ID goes out the window and they are not a REAL transwoman! 🙄

Keza is a Scottish "queer" woman, who unequivocally supports trans rights. Would she be willing to go to prison in support of trans rights, and be placed in a cell with a man who has raped women?

How can people talk about trans rights when they have seen the most blatant abuse of trans rights by a rapist who is a very clear threat to women?!?

BettyFilous · 08/02/2023 18:45

DS1 came bounding downstairs to tell me all about the HL furore when I got in from work. He ‘educated himself’ last year and thinks the ideology doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, though he is kind to his friends. I don’t know what he’s been reading but he knows all about ‘MAPs’ too and isn’t buying that either.

BezMills · 08/02/2023 18:37

It's obvious that trans people cover the complete gamut of human variation, like any other subset of human people. As long as a character isn't some kind of offensive stereotype then just, like, yay for representation?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/02/2023 18:34

I am quite amused at all the complaints about the trans character. The problem is that they have made the character obviously male, but had they made the character "pass" then no-one would have known they were trans...

BezMills · 08/02/2023 18:28

I just don't understand the issue. If someone honestly cannot touch it because of the Witch Taint from being associated with JKR, then err, don't touch it.

It just seems so much self-obsessed invented angsty problems, acted out in public. But hey, we all have different hobbies. That seems to be something people do in their spare time. Fair fucks to them, really. No skin off my nose tbf.

NecessaryScene · 08/02/2023 18:20

An interesting phrase in her tweet twitter.com/kezamacdonald/status/1623294436519120896:

Covering this game has been horrible, by the way! And covering the issues surrounding it whilst remaining compliant with media law is an extremely difficult needle to thread.

I imagine she means "Wah! I can't just libel JKR!"

C’mon Kez, if Henry can face their day without HL then so can you.

🤣

Why do they torture themselves so much? Life is much too short to engage with stuff you have "complicated" relations with.

This is a good question. I can only assume their lives are very small. Walk a dog, go for a swim, play in the playground as a teenager like we used to. This inside, online life seems to exacerbate MH issues and make people utterly miserable.

Shitty Gamer Takes has a slightly different view...

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/02/2023 15:29

I've been finding the controversy over the trans character highly amusing. (To those not in the know its an adult not a student). Many of them are convinced JKR was behind the name (the developers said she hadn't been involved with the game so I highly doubt it), they don't like that "Sirona Ryan" has "Sir" at the start and also the surname "Ryan" is 'a man's name' despite being a reasonabky common surname. They're also suggesting that sironA RYAN proves the game is racist. Oh and they were complaining that trans character sounds 'like a man', many were convinced voiced by a "cis male" and has thin lips.
Guess what? Voiced by a trans woman

As someone who unequivocally supports trans rights, Rowling’s comments have soured and complicated my relationship with Harry Potter – and I am far from alone.

Yawn. Eye roll.

Sad little article in the Guardian today, just as we hoped they might be moving towards the light.

I was just coming to post it....

But you're in the minority, Keza! And the link to the "comprehensive list of what she said" is just a rehash of the exaggerated and deliberately misinterpreted things she actually said.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/02/2023 15:09

It is a bit sad. At this point nothing the developers do would ever be enough. They could pull down the moon for transpeople, and child labor, cure world hunger, go back in time and stop hitler before world war II even started, give them all 1 million dollars each, and pay for all their transitions and a life time supply of hormone therapy and they would still be monsters in the community’s eyes.

Which is a massive own goal. Because you might as well do whatever you please if you're going to get shit regardless.

Sad little article in the Guardian today, just as we hoped they might be moving towards the light. Games reviewer expresses sorrow for JKR ‘s unrelenting dissing of the trans community and explains how this affects many trans, bi, Q and I peoples enjoyment of the Hogwarts game ( which rather raises the question of why play the game and pick at the scab if you know it is going to upset you) and goes so far as to list in a link all the mean and hurtful things JKR has said about trans people . Which when you read them are the exact same logical and reasonable things JKR has always said, ie that she knows trans people get a hard time , but sex is sex and having trans feelings doesn’t change your sex, women need safe spaces , oh and woman is a perfectly good word…….etc.

Warning : gushy tweets from Emma and the other HP made me a millionaire kids are included , sadly for Emma the one proclaiming her love and admiration for Mermaids is there in all its glory. Oops.

oof! Tweets that didn’t age well exhibit A!

True.

Still, on the transgender uk subreddit, the majority of posters say they’ll play it anyway!

Apparently FOMO is more powerful than ‘Transphobia’.

I think the developers genuinely meant well and included this character to show they are trans friendly and it has backfired massively
