"That raped a woman and now isn't allowed in a women's prison so has no where to go"

What the actual fuck. This was a sentence said to me today at a discussion group I go to. No worry for the poor woman (women?) That was/ were raped. No. Just the rapist who raped.

I pointed out that said transwoman is a man and should therefore be in a men's prison, and was told "no she's not, she's a woman now" at which point I decided to change the topic for this week because it's not the sort of group where we want to have heated discussions.

I'm just shocked and saddened that a woman I like and admire is so happy to throw other women under the bus Sad

If @FellOnMyArseToDay used inappropriate pronouns for fear of a 'misgendering' deletion, I'd be pretty sure that the 'Karen White context' applies to Bryson, who is only known for his crimes against women before he (supposedly) transitioned.

What about, for example, Karen White – is it ok to say he is a man and call him 'he'?
We think we've allowed for flexibility and context here; we’re unlikely to delete where an individual is primarily known for extreme or criminal actions undertaken before they transitioned.

True. But in this particular setting, today, with the people who were there, I didn't feel it was the appropriate topic. (They are randomly generated so no one 'picked' it, plus is in our group rules that we can veto some things)
As soon as she said it i felt the tension in the room rise so replied (at the same time as someone else who said the same as me) and then decided to change the topic.

Possibly, but she's 'older' and not in the best of health so I'm not sure that I'd feel comfortable doing so. I worry that she'd feel railroaded. Maybe if we get the chance for a 1:1 conversation

She's the sort of person who will have read in the media that TW are the most marginalised people every and just believed it. Because the media don't lie do they. :( (I know they do, but can imagine she'll believe what she reads)

Most of the problem here is that for some reason, you think that pretending that a rapist can be "she" or pandering to the delusions of a rapist is a good idea. Why?

WTAF? Even on places like PN a lot seem to think that individual shouldn't be in a Womans jail.

They don’t think that, they’ve been advocating for years for male rapists to have access to female victims in prison. They’ve backtracked now the public is paying attention.

I would guess this woman is a dutiful handmaiden and has been paying attention to the debate so she’s been exposed to all the pro-rapist arguments, and doesn’t realise that most TRAs have now backtracked.

What about the female prison staff? How is their risk assessment supposed to go? Same as female police officers I suppose, but still, probably not what most signed up for. It's just such a crock of flat-earther shite, it beggars belief intellectual people give it any thought!

I had the comment 'That was unfortunate', meaning, it was unfortunate that this case occurred just at the moment when it would be in the news and make Self -ID look bad. The friend who I was talking to was left in no doubt about what I thought - I'm hoping he might have thought things through and I'm sure it will crop up next time we have a conversation! My mum also commented that she didn't think they would have actually put him in a women's prison.

People have been truly brainwashed by the media over this and have no idea what is actually going on. That's why it's so important to have straight forward conversations about it.

It’s insane. I don’t understand how the whole movement has so successfully indoctrinated so many people to think “to be a good person I must support and centre transwomen above all else, they are all poor terribly oppressed victims” - to the point of not being able to take it on board when a TW is a male rapist and criminal and very likely a chancer? How?

Since when did we care that a rapist doesn’t have a lovely validating time in prison? Oh but if it’s a TW they must be suffering.

one thing though, I bet these people wouldn’t have the same sympathy for a female sexually violent criminal. So they do know the difference between TW and women right enough.

People who are perfectly fine otherwise can be blinded by the totalitarian style groupthink. Though that comment does seem to be remarkably unthinking.

The weirdest thing in a way is the wholesale swallowing of the weird notion that it is completely unacceptable and indeed harmful for a TW to be anywhere near other males.
