Hoping to go and laugh at the flurries.

PoliticalFootball · 29/01/2023 14:30

Yes. It would be great to get a good turn out by women. The more the merrier. The thing about these SFW events is that they're all about the women who attend and the women who speak (at least that's what I've been able to deduce from watching the videos).

You might hear women speak who's views don't totally align with yours - in which case don't applaud those views. I personally am Pro-Choice, an atheist and am supportive of kids being taught about sexuality, different types of families etc ... I just disagree with all the Gingerbread/GI Joe/Barbie stereotype shite.

Occasionally someone will hijack it with a personal axe to grind but then it will move on to someone else.

I think the women of Scotland will have something to say. I hope it will be an opportunity to let Nicola Sturgeon know how many of us are feeling. An opportunity to express solidarity with other women, anger at what's been happening in prisons and hospitals etc.

If you've never been to anything like this before, please consider coming along.

And I'm not affiliated to SFW. It's irrelevant what I personally think about PP but it's great she's making this happen and I'm very grateful to her for that.

I attended the pro- GRA Rally in Glasgow and am hoping I feel as safe at the SFW event as I did at that. Because that's how democracy is supposed to work.

Yes George Square will be great, plenty of sunlight to keep people in line.

Suzexu · 29/01/2023 13:32

Yep, just checked 12pm George Square Feb 5th…as many people as possible would be great as I’m sure this event will get a lot of attention

George Square would be a lot safer

334bu · 29/01/2023 13:28

George Square is really handy for all transport. Is it definitely there?

Greatdomestic · 29/01/2023 13:25

I have just seen this thread. I live near Glasgow and am now thinking of attending.

I have never attended an event like this and am a bit nervous about it.

However I can't fathom how housing dangerous male sex offenders in women's prisons should ever be considered. I feel let down by the Scottish government.

Hoardasaurusterf · 29/01/2023 13:21

I will be there with my mum! Was a bit hesitant as I think there will be trouble but my 76yr old DM is going regardless so I can’t let her go on her own! Both been to Holyrood before and it feels even more important now!

Beansontoast45 · 29/01/2023 13:14

I’m hoping to go.

MalcolmTuckersBollockingface · 29/01/2023 13:00

Of all the Let Women Speak events, this is the one I would have liked to attend, the most. Sadly. It is logistically impossible for me to go.

Gie it laldy, for me, folks!!!!

PoliticalFootball · 29/01/2023 12:55

I'm hoping that Police Scotland will keep the 'carnival' pro GRR Bill at a separate location. The pro GRR Bill 'counter protest,' is allegedly going to consist of protesters dressing up to the nines and making lots of noise ie. Singing, chanting etc... It's being heavily promoted by Beth 'Pickle' - maybe Ellie Gomersal and Maggie Chapman will be there too - who knows. The addition of some furries will make it quite a spectacle.

My ideal is that SFW get George Square and 'Carnival' is celebrated on Glasgow Green. They're a significant distance apart.

Where the men in black, Antifa lot will gather, is a matter for the Police.

After the debacle of the past couple of weeks regarding rapist prisoners in Corton Vale, the least the Scottish Government can do, via Police Scotland, is provide adequate protection to females who wish to speak freely on its streets. We'll be watching Scotland.

Merrilydancing · 29/01/2023 12:48

Thanks for the details. I will check out what is on but hopefully I can make it although I will also be on my own.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/01/2023 11:38

Am I right in thinking it's George Square now rather than Glasgow Green?

Oh is this true?

Does anyone know the confirmed details?

GromblesofGrimbledon · 29/01/2023 12:09

I'm planning to

Whatthechicken · 29/01/2023 11:54

Anyone going on their own or for the first time, you’ll be fine. I even spoke at the last one, wasn’t planning to - it just kind of happened. You’ll be able to spot anyone walking down that is going too, and just ask them if you can walk with them. Everyone there will talk to you and the stewards are amazing!

PicklesAndTequila · 29/01/2023 11:40

Yes, first one and I'll be on my own, I'm slightly nervous.

HairyPotter · 29/01/2023 11:30

I’m going (hopefully with a couple of friends) I’m slightly worried about the counter protests though. I can’t let that stop me however.

We should have a secret handshake or a badge to identify each other Grin

MrsJackRackham · 29/01/2023 11:24

@Divorcingjack80 had the idea of dinosaurs for a Mumsnet spot.

I’m in Glasgow & definitely going. It’ll be my first event that is going to be protested (by TRA’s & Furries 😂)…Am slightly nervous but women in Glasgow are not easy to intimidate and I’ll be with a group from the Scottish Feminist Network. Just say hello to any woman there & I’m sure they’ll be supportive 👍

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 29/01/2023 10:31

I hope everyone attending has an amazing time

RoyalCorgi · 29/01/2023 10:31

Don't want to hijack this thread, I promise, but for people who can't make it to Glasgow on the Sunday, there's a conference in London on the Saturday that also looks worth going to. Helen Joyce and Kathleen Stock will be speaking.

I’m coming from Yorkshire, I thought about doing it in one day…but seems like a stretch, so staying over, and I think it’s nice to join everyone in the pub afterwards. I think this event sounds important.

Not sounds important, I know it’s important - what I mean is really significant.
