Evan Davis has just finished the PM programme. We had articles on the effect of Instagram on the restaurant trade, on Chat gpt and on wearing shorts in the winter.
Guess how long the article on Isla Bryson / Adam Graham ran for ...

I noticed some things he never mentioned which his researchers should have picked up so he could have mentioned them:

The Cass report - that affirmation is not neutral

4000% increase in girls feeling they are trans

Research shows most teenagers desist by 18-19 if not affirmed.

Twitter normally goes trans activism mad with Evan Davis and his segments on trans. This time, not so much. There is the odd tweet:

twitter.com/OhLankyLanky/status/1622657089263869952

twitter.com/tweetymike/status/1622658436239351809

These people never explain why they think it's better for a teenager to be sterilised and become a lifelong medical patient with impaired sexual function than it is for them to accept their healthy body as it is.

It was a very good interview today. Ruby and her mother were fabulous. (And parenting goals there.)

SinnerBoy · 06/02/2023 18:27

Miss! Miss! I know! Is it "women"?

I've missed the end of the piece because LW went to the shipping forecast.
Did ED say that they have covered a lot of Trans stuff recently including the effect of stuff on Trans' rights. No mention of the effects on women's rights.

i-player is up.
"On PM over the last year we have been giving quite a bit of space to the sometimes fraught debates around the rights of and respect for transpeople, around gender identity and biological sex."

Who gets rights and respect, Evan?Hmm

I don't know what happened there:

twitter.com/tweetymike/status/1622659380423401478

This isn't usual. There's normally be a tsunami of tweets like that.

ILikeDungs · 06/02/2023 18:20

nauticant the first one does say in the second tweet 'where's the balance?'

and the second one seems to have been deleted, or is it just me?

ILikeDungs · 06/02/2023 18:18

I hope he pooed his pants in rage, on the drive home.

hehehehe what an image

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 06/02/2023 18:13

I kept having to pinch myself that it was being broadcast, so powerfully and straightforwardly. It’s just utterly horrifying that the sane, loving response of those parents a) isn’t universal and b) is disparaged as bigotry.

He was bringing gaslighting and disinformation. And now he is on the BBC naughty step and having to grit his teeth and talk to the bigots to make it all better. Bless

I hope he pooed his pants in rage, on the drive home.

faffadoodledo · 06/02/2023 18:10

Thank goodness Ruby didn't have any medical intervention

Manderleyagain · 06/02/2023 18:08

That was extremely good. I couldn't believe what I was hearing on PM with Evan. It might be worth it's own thread as people do search this forum to find stuff. It would be a good interview for anyone who hasn't considered the possibilities beyond 'protect trans kids', the possible unintended consequences of the ban on conversion therapy, and especially anyone wondering how to respond to their own kid if ìt doesn't ring true to them. The way the mother spoke was brilliant. She loved and knew her child. She also explained this really well - if everyone agreed that she is a boy she will always feel betrayed by her body as it goes through female pubity.

ILikeDungs · 06/02/2023 18:06

"We've hoped to bring a kind of calm to the discussion but it is very easy to trip up ...indeed l think we did trip up..."

He knew damn well he was not bringing 'calm' to the discussion. He was bringing gaslighting and disinformation. And now he is on the BBC naughty step and having to grit his teeth and talk to the bigots to make it all better. Bless

Dymaxion · 06/02/2023 18:02

I thought that was a really good interview, the Mother and Daughter both came across very well. No screeching or blaming, just a simple tale of a parent doing the best they could for their child.

ValancyRedfern · 06/02/2023 18:00

That was actually great. Ruby and her mum had lots of time given to talk and they made so much sense. I'll be recommending listening to my affirming obsessed school!

lanadelgrey · 06/02/2023 17:59

Mum has raised all the big questions.
I wonder if ED was dragged to doing this piece by the editors to redress all the complaints of his bias. They can now hold this interview up as evidence of him being balanced

Blimey, Evan Davis has even invited the mum to comment on Conversion Therapy where, going by everything I've heard from trans activists, was clearly carried out on Ruby to Ruby's considerable benefit.

Awiltu · 06/02/2023 17:56

ED: "We tripped up last week and left listeners with the impression JKR is a raging bigot, but..."

The female detransitioner and her mother on now are incredibly articulate.

One can almost hear ED's clenched teeth as he attempts to question sympathetically.

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 06/02/2023 17:53

Really good and clear, helpful for someone in this mum's postition.

Birdsweepsin · 06/02/2023 17:52

This mum's testimony is really good actually. Balanced. Thank god for sensible parents.

nauticant · 06/02/2023 17:48

A young female clearly with ROGD, not long after a diagnosis of autism. At least she had a sensible mum.

lanadelgrey · 06/02/2023 17:48

Hey it’s bingo time but all the things we know about … peer pressure, autism diagnosis

Birdsweepsin · 06/02/2023 17:47

"Trip up" 🙄
