'Breaking' - Transgender rapist won’t be imprisoned in Scotland’s all-women jail, Nicola Sturgeon tells MSPs

Excellent news.

And Sturgeon has really shot herself in the foot here (again). Because if she really thinks 'trans women are women', why is she not allowing this 'woman' to go to a female prison?

So therefore she knows this person is not a woman.

So therefore she is being transphobic...

What in the name of chuffing fuck is a (recently) convicted paedophile doing working in the prison service? And enabling trans into women's prisons?

If that isn't an ace to prove the complete moral bankruptcy of the whole gig, I don't know what is.

They are like rats there's always one within a couple of feet of you.

Looking forward to this:

Janice turner:

My Times column tomorrow is on policies which led to a Scottish double rapist being remanded to a women’s prison. I’ve used his original male name & pronouns throughout. Under UK laws, rape is penetration with a penis, ie a male crime.

Not calling a rapist “she” is my red line.

That SPS Equality Impact Assessment is a shocker.

The form refers to gender not sex (so not the protected characteristic) and anyway the box isn't even ticked.

Which equality groups will be affected by the new or revised policy/practice?
= Age, gender identity, sexual orientation - ticked.
= Gender - not ticked.

The we have
Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation?
= It will eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation- ticked.
= It will make discrimination, harassment and victimisation worse - not ticked.

Apprenently it's also going to foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not. How's that going Nicola?

LexMitior · 27/01/2023 18:24

@nilsmousehammer - you are right. The Scottish Government will face a judicial review on this. Because however sensible it is now move this man into a male prison, it means that other decisions not to do so, and the guidance are in question. Sturgeon's intervention also problematic.

A basket case government- full of stupid people who seem to think law is whatever you say it is on the day. The SNP leadership are idiotic. They are actually worse that their Westminster equivalents who at least know how to present a u turn.

Except that they have to get intimate searches from female prison wardens instead of male wardens.

Simple, just send in male wardens and tell them to identify as women at the time. Same thing isn't it?

Maybe time for a recruitment drive for trans officers?

*So, if she was to be put in a male prison she would undoubtedly be in danger. She presents every way as 'female' - zero 'tell-tale' signs, so how could she be housed with men who are likely to rape her? Should there be a separate prison/wing for TG's? But then what would be the criteria - pretty sure Isla-Whatshisname would pose a danger to my friend too, so should the criteria for a TW prison/wing be completed reassignment surgery? Or is it no different to putting slightly built men into male prisons who would be vulnerable to predators and no special measures are needed for people like my friend?

Although I've quoted you I'm not necessarily asking you to answer, just throwing it out there because it hurts my brain thinking about it.*

Just wanted to add, although I'm asking others opinions here I'm no way suggesting this is a problem for women to solve, or that women should give up their safe spaces to accommodate vulnerable natal males. Just wondering what others views are on it.

Well my main view is that your friend should stay the right side of the law and it won't be an issue.

Of course that's not what you are asking. Well your friend if they must break the law and end up in prison it should be the Male estate. We could say, effeminate men, gay men, fragile men should also use the female estate, but they dont. What's the difference?

Women are not default human shields, if my daughter was in prison at the same time, she should be allowed to have as much dignity as any other woman. We all know the Male gaze is or can be fucking awful and predatory and frightening.

Even if we are not at risk of rape , plenty of sexual assaults happen without the mighty penis.

When it's religious faith it can neither be proven nor disproven.

However the transgender faith can be disproven by the simple expedient of the biology.

Exactly. I'm an atheist but I have a lot more respect for religious believers compared to TRAs. Religious believers could conceivably be right - we can't know. But we do know that gender ideology is internally inconsistent and disproved by facts.

Just in case my point is missed because my previous post was a tad too long! (Sorry!)

Today, I discovered that Gordon Pike, who was a senior official for the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) and responsible for the development of SPS’s Gender Identity and Gender Reassignment Policy (2014), was convicted for child pornography in 2018.

Hiding in plain sight.

All of them.

SCIENCE! What a transphobic bitch she is! I LOVE HER!!!

Tbf I was thinking babelfish and promptly vanished in a puff of logic.

Wow, you've been busy, that's my evenings reading sorted!

I wonder why the trans Rights supporters never end up down these rabbit holes. Do they never verify bloody anything? Ever?

The amount of politicians, journalists and all-round fuckwits coming out with, 'Well, in this one extreme instance it isn't right to send this rapist to a women's prison' is infuriating. The uncomplicated system whereby we had sex-separated facilities in some circumstances worked pretty well. This case-by-case scenario is hypocritical, unworkable, and leaves women's safety down to arbitrary decision making rather than a guarantee.

By what criteria are they deciding that Adam Graham is faking it but other men are not? Do they even think he is faking it, or do they just think this particular 'woman' is uniquely dangerous? If that is the case, then what is it about Graham that is so much worse than the many other cases of trans sex offenders and violent criminals? Do they think a woman will be happy sharing a cell or showering in front of a man who has been imprisoned for fraud? Right now it looks like a bunch of hypocrites have realised that the photos of Graham are so ludicrous and the political timing of this is so inexpedient that they are having to abandon even their own twisted logic.

In the unlikely event that Graham persists with his charade after his release, what happens then? Will he be able to identify his way into a women's hostel, or locker rooms and toilets? What happens to this case-by-case testing of trans authenticity then? How does it work?

The amount of politicians, journalists and all-round fuckwits coming out with, 'Well, in this one extreme instance it isn't right to send this rapist to a women's prison' is infuriating

Their minds are going to be blown then over the next week as all the other cases appear in their Twitter feeds

😁

MBM deserve a bloody medal. They are brilliant.

SuperShe · 27/01/2023 17:12

I swear, this cesspit of a rabbit hole is never ending. It’s horrendous yet enlightening

Maybe that explains why Alice in Wonderland is my fave Disney movie. 😂

Was reading an excellent Twitter feed this morning by @mbmpolicy, which highlighted how the decision making process during the development of the SPS’s Gender Identity & Gender Reassignment Policy “failed entirely to consider the impact of its policy on female prisoners and staff, focusing only on the needs of transgender prisoners.”

Also, the Equality Impacts Assessment SPS conducted to ensure the new policy upheld the Equality Act, reveals no female prisoners, no prison staff and no woman’s rights groups were consulted during the policy making process. But the following groups were consulted:

  • Trans people in prison and in the community
  • SPS Mangers and Officers (including E& D Managers)
  • Trade Union
  • Government Agencies (including Scottish Government and English Prison Service)
  • SPS Legal Branch
  • Scottish Transgender Alliance
  • Capability Scotland
  • Stonewall Scotland

Then whilst on Twitter (again! 🙈) I saw a post saying a senior prison official convicted of child pornography was involved in the the SPS policy.

So of course being the She of Sleuthing that I am (love that and have never come across it before! courtesy of @ResisterRex 😊), I looked into the people involved in making their policy.
And lo and behold - Gordon Pike is one of the 8 people listed within the list Equality Impact Assessment.

Can this get any worse, I honestly don’t know.

Disgusting. I'm so angry about this shit. Can't we do some class action lawsuits and sue the uk government, sue the EU, sue everyone.

No one did due dillegence. Women have been sick over this and got fired, vilified, ....

If a group of women prisoners were able to get together (whether they'd been physically assaulted or not - they have still been abused and subjected to indecent assault if they've been forced to shower etc with men) needed to to crowdfund, I imagine the support would be HUGE!

And not just sue the govt, sue individuals who's support in parliament enabled this travesty. Idon't know if that's a legal possibility (when has this govt ever been worried about legality), but I'd love to see it!

nilsmousehammer · 27/01/2023 16:35

During one of the big child safeguarding disasters that led to white papers and inquiries, a senior person in a local authority told me impatiently that this kind of thing happened all the time in all authorities and the general public were kept in happy ignorance of this. This particular case 'escaping into the press' as he put it, was regarded as a failure. Because now you had the general public kicking off, and all the papers getting in on the act, and questions asked in parliament, and pressure to Do Something, and accountability had to be created, and it was all one big mess when it wasn't a 'big deal'. Just very inconvenient.

It was quite a shock to hear the degree of cynicism.

But yes. This fuss about this one man is ridiculous, and I would think that his legal team are rubbing their hands with glee. Because they will be able to say there are all those male offenders, as bad and worse, all happily doing their thing in women's prisons and causing all the trouble KPSS keep account of. And their client has been removed not because of policy change, but because of politicians running scared from a public reaction.

And they will have a case.

They have treated this man unfairly, for the wrong reasons, while making a lot of confused statements about how the law they set up and supported (until it got really uncomfortable to face) is not ok, they don't support it (but are not planning to change it or take out those other men.)

This is why the noise and pressure has to continue. Particularly as I would wonder, with deep cynicism, whether this man has been quietly put in another women's estate, or promises made about in a few weeks when the fuss dies down. Because otherwise his legal team will rightfully have the Scots govt on toast.

Either it is fine for all male sex offenders who have invoked the power of Greyskull to be in women's prisons providing that 'double punishment' of women that was the reason for creating women only prisons 200 years ago, or it isn't fine, and none should be in the women's estate.
