Continuation of Thread 2.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

@Boiledbeetle yes it's the reluctance to delve into the issue and think it through in case it makes you start questioning other issues that's mind boggling. Like me, she is politically on the left and I think she thinks if she has an opinion on this issue that left wing politicians don't like, it's some kind of betrayal.

Boiledbeetle · 25/01/2023 20:36

@Britinme It boggles my brain. I don't know about everything that's going on in the world, but I try to flit around the news enough to have a rough idea. And if a topic gets mentioned to me, or starts starts to dominate I look into from all sides and make a rational decision of my stance, even if I thought I already knew where I stood.

I just hate "Oh well my mate Dave from the Legion he's now Cathy, got a cracking pair of tits mind". And that's as far as they have delved into the situation!

Britinme · 25/01/2023 20:26

@Boiledbeetle I hear you. My best friend, while dubious about men in women's sports, sees no problem otherwise with trans women in women's spaces, basing her reaction on two older trans women she happens to know and like. We don't discuss the issue.

Boiledbeetle · 25/01/2023 19:40

Sorry I'll stop shouting now. Fucking wank badger.

I had a lovely discussion with another 80s actor last year who based all his assumptions of transwomen on 1 transwomen he knew that was obviously an Autogynephilia type transwoman. I wanted to shake the man.

They are at an age where they just don't get the modern world.

Boiledbeetle · 25/01/2023 19:35

About the same level of rage on the face

mach2 · 25/01/2023 19:33

I thought that was a pic of Lloyd Russell-Moyle for a second.

Gonners · 25/01/2023 18:58

@Boiledbeetle - Ah! Obviously I am far too young to remember that. 😉

Boiledbeetle · 25/01/2023 18:34

@Gonners it may depend on your age. When I was a teenager, mid 80s he played John Thaws son in Home to Roost

It's the shrug emoji that did it for me. I'm just burning my Reece Dinsdale stuff.

Arf! I just accidentally hit the "report" button on that, but don't think I actually reported it. Please shun me if I did.

All I wanted to say is that I had no idea who Reece Dinsdale was and, having looked him up, am none the wiser.

StephanieSuperpowers · 25/01/2023 17:52

Hey, why can't we all just be nice? Have you thought about being nice, ladies?

Boiledbeetle · 25/01/2023 17:40

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn Which means No Cheese.

Shock
IcakethereforeIam · 25/01/2023 17:39

Oh @BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn no cheese!

Have you heard of that tick whose bite can make you meat intolerant. I'm expecting militant vegans to weaponise it.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 25/01/2023 17:31

Vegan or a lactose bigot intolerant?

Just to be difficult - neither. Milk protein allergy. Always had a bit of one, but it was manageable as long as I avoided it when uncooked and unfermented. Then in lockdown I got into making my own yoghurt and kefir (milk very well boiled to denature the proteins as well as being fermented) and I think the quantity tripped a switch, so now I can't have it in any form.

Which means No Cheese.

I tried to do that but could only post the link!

Technologically challenged!

I honed my skills on the map of Anger thread when I was operating with two identical tablets and screenshots that needed taking very frequently at some points.

EvelynBeatrice · 25/01/2023 17:24

Bit of a non sequitur but... a while back I was stunned by article by male Times journalist- maybe Sunday times - exclaiming at silly women unhappy at sharing shop changing rooms with men ... after all, everyone is just there to try on clothes. I waited to see his next post explaining to black men why they are wrong to worry or complain about racism, but strangely enough, it never appeared

I've never tried baking with nut milk. Vegan or a lactose bigot intolerant?

Some of this cake had better be dairy free. I need to celebrate the conversation I had with my manager today in which we carefully established we are both GC.

Nice one! I did the same with my main client last year. Saw a copy of Kathleen Stock's 'Material Girls' on his kitchen table and said 'Ooh, Doc Stock, I like her' and he very enthusiastically said he did too.

Boiledbeetle · 25/01/2023 17:15

My guess would be

" a girl? Are you sure? You are after all wearing trousers and a 🌈 top"

StephanieSuperpowers · 25/01/2023 17:12

Of course, the real answer is that she's telling the little girl that she can be anything - even a man!
