A woman has been found guilty of raping two women when she was a man. Happened in Scotland. She hasn’t been sentenced yet - but where will she serve her sentence? In the womens prison?!
This is going to mean some serious discussions and tough times for the Scottish government. But it was surely only a matter of time before something like this happened.

Did not see the news.

ScrollingLeaves · 27/01/2023 01:36

I think it was on the 10 o’clock news. I saw this on an AIBU thread but did not Baer the news.

FrancescaContini · 27/01/2023 01:33

@ScrollingLeaves There are no words for how outrageous this is. Is the “general public” aware of this?

ScrollingLeaves · 27/01/2023 01:08

Did you know that this rapist’s crime is going to be recorded in the female crime statistics?

This will also be used to disappear the evidence that a man who says he is a woman is capable of crime.

Kucinghitam · 27/01/2023 00:49

More mind-blowing stuff from TRSOH:

I had an off the record conversation with a Labour MSP who said that if a TW was perceived as male by women in prison when naked (& still be-penised), this showed how much we still need to do in society to dismantle bigotry. This is the context of GRR.

duc748 · 27/01/2023 00:31

In fact, that's just about the final insult, isn't it? To actually put the blame for rape at women's door.

duc748 · 27/01/2023 00:28

They've just said, on the BBC News at 10, that Police Scotland have said these crimes will not be recorded as having been committed by a man...I think they're saying that these will be recorded as rapes commited by a woman?

Then that's bollocks, cos by definition women can't rape anyone. Unless they don't know what a woman is? 🙁

They also reported that 50% of trans identified male prisoners only being. "their transition" in custody...

And yet, the BBC persist with "she" "her" "trans WOMAN" throughout.

Yes, there's no 'self-declared' or 'alleged' qualifier. It would seem that this is the one thing any man can say that has to be taken as true in all circumstances.

Sugarfree23 · 26/01/2023 22:53

Where are all the churches and other religious groups on all this surely one of them must be uncomfortable with it?
Why are none of them speaking out?

Even though, even if you take this man's lies as truthful, he was most definitely in agreement he was a man at the time of the crimes?

(He is still a man, obviously)

ScrollingLeaves · 26/01/2023 20:55

It makes no odds whether or not the assaulting male sincerely feels a gender or not. Which makes it ridiculous for politicians to be pontificating about whether sincerely identifying TW sex offenders are less of a danger and stress to women prisoners than potentially insincere ones.

Yes, I agree but I think there is a spin that it is only ever predatory men, never men who would like to be women, who commit sex crimes (even though this is not true).
Any discussion has to include this though or it will be shut down with “section 28” objections so that is why politicians must do it.

They are allowed though to say that some predatory men might pretend to fit the category of gender reassignment in order to be imprisoned with women instead of men. And it is true this happens.

It makes no practical difference whatsoever if a male is or is not a TW during an assault.

I think it makes all the difference in the world if you’re a natal woman forced to share a cell with a TW and then raped by them.

My point was that being assaulted by a male does not change in the awfulness of the experience for the woman being assaulted according to the inner feels and personal choice of identity of the male doing the assaulting.

It makes no odds whether or not the assaulting male sincerely feels a gender or not. Which makes it ridiculous for politicians to be pontificating about whether sincerely identifying TW sex offenders are less of a danger and stress to women prisoners than potentially insincere ones.

The women would just like not to be raped. And worrying about the inner feelings of the men should not be the central focus when talking about dangers to women of that male carrying out life wrecking assault and injury on her.

Given that TWAW, she must mean he was a predatory man when he raped his victims - but is now a woman.

Hope you’re being ironic because trans women are not women. Never were, never will be. You can’t change sex.

Satire. Surely? Surely?!

Sturgeon on the BBC website: "The first minister also stressed it was careful that people "do not, even inadvertently, suggest that trans women pose an inherent threat to women", adding: "Predatory men, as has always been the case, are the risk to women."

So if someone with a penis rapes someone they must be a man. If they have a penis but have not raped anyone they could be a man or a woman.

Hmm. Not sure I follow

Given that TWAW, she must mean he was a predatory man when he raped his victims - but is now a woman.

Though it doesn't sit well with the dogma that tw have always been women.

@RiderOfTheBlue I wondered a bit myself, but the tweet about buying copies of Harry's book for the wards...!

queencactus · 26/01/2023 18:42

"Frustration with transphobia" but he didn't identify as a woman at that time, so how could it be transphobia?

RiderOfTheBlue · 26/01/2023 18:37

@RiderOfTheBlue it's a parody, but it's so hard to tell these days.

Thanks. I did wonder whether it was a pisstake but their twitter page looked convincing.

Thanks I'd never heard of her. I'm away to look her up. Feeling almost ashamed not to know about the many amazing women who've gone before us and who make the place a better place for us.

An absolutely fantastic book about this is Dale Spender's "Women of Ideas - and what men have done to them". It's about the many brilliant women in history who achieved great things, but who we've largely forgotten about because men simply wrote them out of the history books. It was published in the 1980s, but it's still true and relevant today.

I'll have a look for that, too - thanks.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 26/01/2023 17:52

There is an occasional poster in this forum who likes to imply that trans-iding men who've committed sexual offences were driven to their crikes by societal transphobia, but who won't come out and actually type the words.

Frustration with transphobia is a direct case of rape is it? 🧐

Puddles have arguments of more depth than these people

Yes, if only we weren't so horribly transphobic this would never have happened. We ought to be ashamed.
