A woman has been found guilty of raping two women when she was a man. Happened in Scotland. She hasn’t been sentenced yet - but where will she serve her sentence? In the womens prison?!
This is going to mean some serious discussions and tough times for the Scottish government. But it was surely only a matter of time before something like this happened.

Why do threads like these always devolve into a fight between a couple of posters?

Thread disrupters. It is deliberate. Some good regular posters then refuse to allow their assertions to go incorrected. The advantage is that casual readers see how few arguments there are to support the idea of placing men in women’s prisons.

That said there are often arguments for ‘Don’t feed the troll’.

(From the timing of posts, spelling and references, it is clear that several more argumentative posters are not in the Uk.)

Julia Hartley Brewer is in full flow raging about this case now on Talk Tv/radio. Good to see somebody telling the truth

You sound terribly prim.

Your opinion doesn't matter.

The thread is about a male rapist being sent to a women's prison.

No, it's an option for everyone. What circumstances justify, in your mind, forcing public servants to look at drawings of penises when they are trying to support a democratic process?

You sound terribly prim.

Totally agree. Northern Scotland here, There is no good choice here but I’ll be voting Conservative because as a woman I simply cannot support SNP/Green in any way.

I'm further south in Scotland - never voted Tory before. I will now.

If I didn't think any candidate standing was worthy of representing me I would stand myself

of course you would, perfectly rational thing to do

not really an option for many people for various reasons

Stupid article from the Times www.thetimes.co.uk/article/rapist-preyed-on-two-gender-switch-llkpdx2x2

'Trans woman'
'When she was a man'
No mention of going to a women's prison

lyson · 25/01/2023 08:52

I'll be interested to see what bloody Lorraine makes of this. Given she's #bekind.

Bet it's completely ignored.

There's a report saying that he'll probably go into the segregation wing, but a review must be held, in case their feelings are hurt. There are still women in segregation. What about them?

And what's wrong with seg in the male prison

I mentioned earlier on the thread (or possibly on another thread, I can't find it now) an article I'd read that listed the times "struggling with gender identity" was accepted by judges as a mitigating factor. I've just found it, as someone posted it on Twitter:

www.womenarehuman.com/too-good-for-prison-9-times-judges-decided-being-transgender-is-punishment-enough/

BellePeppa · 25/01/2023 08:42

Why is Scotland (or Nichola Sturgeon) so keen on this nonsense? What’s in it for them and what on earth is in it for NS? I’m very baffled by Scotland at the moment.

SinnerBoy · 25/01/2023 08:41

Oh dear.

Evidently, someone who draws a penis on a ballot paper wants to waste their vote. If they wanted to use it, they would have indicated who they were voting for.

But do you not understand "none of the above"? If not one candidate is worthy of your vote? What if you had a choice between EDL, BNP, National Front and Revolutionary Stalinist Party?

Which would you choose?

If I didn't think any candidate standing was worthy of representing me I would stand myself. I wouldn't draw genitals on my ballot paper. Maybe some people get thrills from the thought of the people counting the votes having to see an obscene graffito. I don't.

RoyalCorgi · 25/01/2023 08:27

You're not actually far off given the much higher proportion of sexual offenders in TIM prisoners v male prisoners.

That is an incredibly impactful visual representation of the discrepancy. Where does it come, from, WaitWhat?

Not RTFT so apologies if this has already been said but just on the issue of risk assessment, it was reported just yesterday that Zara Aleena's killer was incorrectly assessed as medium risk by the probation service. Which hardly fills one with confidence about the whole process.

Defacing ballot papers with self-portraits isn't going to solve anything, however virtuous it makes you feel.

It's not a feeling of virtuousness, it's a feeling of despair and anger and a way of signalling: "None of the above." Do you think that people WANT to waste a vote?

SinnerBoy · 25/01/2023 08:06

@nilsmousehammer

A belief in selective personal realities is not going to be grounds for capacity of objective rationality or shared meaning with others.

Another poster says that RMW is in a large part responsible for the judge's bench book. The one which orders sanctions for women who've been raped, if they refer in court to their rapists as he. So, surely he's ordered perjury? We have his measure.

And Robin Moira White pretending that nothing bad has happened, as a result of GRC and trans people in women's spaces. The dissembling tick.

This entire mess is founded on an ideology that feelings create reality, reality is selective with unwanted facts just ignored, a powerful person tells the minions what their reality is, and then bullies, shouts, browbeats and threatens the minions into enabling it for them by joining the pretense.

Once you have accepted a person insists on their personal, selective reality in one thing, why be surprised that they do the same in other things? A belief in selective personal realities is not going to be grounds for capacity of objective rationality or shared meaning with others. And it fundamentally renders someone unfit to work in public office, because you cannot do that with your eyes shut to the facts and bits of reality that jar your personal one. If you need to do one, you cannot do the other. Cake and eating it too has to stop.

Personally I think this quite exceptional prejudice and disdain for females should render someone unfit to take a public facing post too frankly, but extreme misogyny is the new black at the moment.

What a depressing state of affairs. The only party that seems to be willing to stand up to this nonsense is the same party that will probably put the final nail in the coffin of the NHS if we re-elect them.

I've said for years that voting in a GE has become a matter of choosing which party is the least shit. This seems to plunge us to new depths.

The conservatives started this with Maria Millers ridiculous bill.
They've only changed their tune because they think it's a vote winner for them - they aren't "standing up" to anything.

I'd not vote and draw a huge penis on my ballot before I voted Conservative
