So, cervical screening obviously isn't for me then, a Woman, who doesn't consider herself to have been 'assigned' anything at any stage? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Righto...

Can't you ask yourself why you need "sole communication". Is it not enough for you that it literally says female. And even without the word, does the fact that it is a cervical screening tip you off?

Eh no. As someone whose sex Ed was not adequate, I repeat, I would not have understood this message applied to me.
Health messaging should be clear and concise.

nilsmousehammer · 23/01/2023 22:31

As repeated multiple times over the pages, for some women the words 'female' and 'cervical' are not accessible. The statistics are quoted that about 40% of women at the last survey did not know what a cervix was, who had one or where it is. Hence the money spend on public awareness.

Woman is an accessible word.

Yes that's exactly where funding in women's health care should go...

Are trans men not biologically female? Genuinely what is your point? Do they not matter?

CandlelightGlow · 23/01/2023 22:29

Blister · 23/01/2023 22:26

Why are women the default for a health procedure for biological women? Hmm....

Hellooooo I did not say women aren't the vast majority and you all know full well despite Beetlejuice up there pretending otherwise.

If you're not going to take my point in the context it was made just don't engage.

Blister · 23/01/2023 22:28

CandlelightGlow · 23/01/2023 22:26

You're missing my point, I'm definitely sure you're not doing that on purpose. My point is I could at least empathise with the outrage on this thread at a trans man being on an NHS poster if it was perhaps the only one, but the fact is the vast majority of cervical screening media is directed at women.

What has the NHS got to do with anything? The post here is by Government of Jersey.

They've produced 3 communications, none of which use the word Women, and only one of which uses the word Female without the suggestion that it's 'assigned'.

One welcomes everyone in the right age group, one welcomes trans men, and one welcomes 'females and....'. They're all in this thread if you care to read it.

Where is the sole communication to 'cis' Women, or indeed any Women, that you speak of?

And to bloody right you should find lots of cervical screening posters for women

Because only women have a cervix. Find me a male of our species who has one

Other needs

It might amaze you to know this, but non TQ+ identified females have accessibility needs too. As have been discussed in depth in this thread. Women who have difficulty reading. Women who speak English as an additional language. Women who have no idea what a cervix is. You'll find an absolute wealth of research and policy that health care language should be clear and accessible to ensure equality of reach to those women.

I'd love to see some examples from the rest of this campaign aimed at those women to prove that this is just one aspect of a multi pronged one balanced with others ensuring equality of access to all needs.

Might be a slightly different campaign as I can’t see any logos on the poster featuring a trans man to identify the source. However, the PHE campaign offers BSL, different languages, large print, easy read, audio amongst other formats. It’s pretty inclusive and accessible in that respect.

It's honestly such bullshit, sorry. If you google "NHS Cervical Screening Poster" you get absolute floods of women centric posters as a result. You've found one with a trans man on and attacking it. Awful.

These posters are part of a wider campaign and probably won’t be as widely distributed as campaigns aimed at biologically female women who call themselves women. It’s an outreach campaign that will likely be displayed in gender clinics, Pride events and other places that will place it within view of its target demographics.

I can’t see what the problem is, if it saves the life of even one person who doesn’t think of themselves as a woman but still has a cervix.

Would it shock you to find out that maybe posters with writing on them are not the best way to reach women who can't read?

Why does the fact that other women with different additional needs mean that it's ridicule worthy to have a poster aimed at trans men who are also biologically female?

Actually think about what you are saying. You're deciding that because other women have needs, because you don't agree with being transgender, trans men shouldn't have anything aimed at them. Literally make it make sense.

Is it a rule though? If it's a rule just report me because I'm not engaging in conversations about such things. I used the term to illustrate my point and I'm comfortable with its use. I find it extremely prejudice that these boards allow misgendering and deadnaming of trans people but I respect your rights to post them since it's clearly not breaking any rules.

You may wish to check the posting guidelines.

Believe me posters here are very much already respecting boundaries and not choosing the words they would much prefer to use when discussing who exactly has a cervix.

ArabellaScott · 23/01/2023 19:06

Just where do you think the cervix is located?

Mine’s the upper end of my spine just below my skull, but I understand many people have a rather different one as well, located lower down. Seriously, for smear tests, surely it’s better to refer to the relevant group of people, i.e. women. In addition these days it applies to be considered necessary to mention women who don’t like to admit they are women, and I suppose it makes sense to make it easy for them to recognise themselves and to hint that they will be treated as nicely as possible.

CandlelightGlow · 23/01/2023 22:16

Redebs · 23/01/2023 22:13

Would men identifying as women also be given appointments for cervical screening, so they don't feel left out? 🙄Surely the TWAW brigade wouldn't let the opportunity pass to insist on being treated like women despite having a male body?

Is that supposed to be a justification for attacking a poster for cervical screening with a trans man on it?

I don't see the relevance at all, you just seem to be making prejudicial about trans women who are not biologically female and therefore wouldn't need a cervical screening.

Always have to get the digs into trans women in every single thread here though, I suppose....

Boiledbeetle · 23/01/2023 22:15

CandlelightGlow · 23/01/2023 22:12

Sorry but that's bollocks. All of those points only apply if it wasn't the case that the vast majority of cervical screening advertisement and information wasn't aimed at cis women solely.

Please don't use CIS on these threads

In regards to priorities, most women know about smears, the campaign is targeted at trans men who also may need smears.

Logically, if “most women, adult human females, know about smears*

then as females, most transmen know about smears too.

CandlelightGlow · 23/01/2023 22:14

And what do you mean by other needs? Please don't try and shift the argument to try and turn it into an attack on me, when the poster and the conversation on this thread solely concerns gender identity.

If you are biologically female, you either identify as a woman or you don't - either because you're transgender or nonbinary. That is what I am discussing as is everybody else.
