How as a society did we get to such a horiffic place?
“In 2009 I was rushed into having SRS before I was read[y]. Resulting in immediate regret and sterilization.”

@lechiffre55 possibly, yes, I just felt the need to point out that tattoos don't really deserve to be categorised with much more damaging procedures

I realise it's a derail anyway.

I have read so many heartbreaking and terrifying accounts on reddit and elsewhere of post-srs complications and regret.

It is appalling and completely immoral that children are having their whole lives destroyed in this way. Where is the accountability? Where are the ethics? Where is the care?

I am not actually pro this surgery at all. I am very anti any GRS. However I am pro facts and evidence and science and truth. I look at research and factual representations and that is controversial on this thread and opposed by many who want their personal bias and agenda to be the prevailing view. This thread reads a lot like a vaccine conspiracy thread. Many posters just spouting nonsense and other people agreeing because confirmation bias.

I mean does it HAVE to produce fecal matter to smell like poop? I mean we certainly associate poop with a certain smell but it’s entirely possible that the matter itself is not what is producing the smell but in fact the mucus used to pack it together. I know that paints such a beautiful image and all. I am friends with a completely traumatized trans woman and she does have this problem. She packs her underwear with liners and wears thick pants to try to stifle it. I’m not pretending to be an expert on the science. I just know what I’ve experienced. I used to be a huge supporter of trans people. Her botched surgery is one of many that made me start to question things and slowly become gender critical.

@BloodAndFire
I read @Boiledbeetle 's post to have a different meaning to the meaning I think you may have taken from it.
This line is Boiledbeetle is her giving her baseline point of view "I don't even understand people getting tattoos, boob jobs and lip fillers."
This next bit isn't about tatoos boob jobs or lip fillers, she goes back to gender reassignment surgery "So mutilating perfectly healthy bodies for suboptimal results and a life time of issues.no. That shouldn't happen."

Stories like this are going to become a very frequent occurence over the next decade.

There is going to be many people who had surgery, both men and women, who come to realise that it isn't a magic bullet, the results are nowhere near the perfect image they had in their head, the ongoing pain and complications.

There will be many people who feel let down, lied to and depressed. They will see this as the only way tho make out all stop.

And it's all so bloody pointless. This is why surely it must be better to learn to accept that the body you have is the body you have. Change everything else you want, your job, you're name, your clothes, but your body? I can't get behind that.

I don't even understand people getting tattoos, boob jobs and lip fillers. So mutilating perfectly healthy bodies for suboptimal results and a life time of issues.no. That shouldn't happen.

While i agree with 99% of your post, I'd just like to correct a minor point re tattoos - I have quite a lot of them, the oldest one is about 30 years old and the newest about 6 months.

they don't cause any long term issues at all. initially it's like a mild graze, then once they've healed (about a month max) it's just like any other part of your skin. No aftercare is needed.

It's nowhere near as invasive or risky as any of the other examples you give and I don't know of anyone who has ever suffered any serious effects from getting one, even though I have many heavily tattooed / professional tattooist friends

I think what you are doing in this post is called confession through projection.
People have posted their reasoning and links to back up that reasoning. If you want to see some personal bias look in a mirror.
People have argued that a colon will still produce the same secretions that it does as part of the digestive system, and linked to medical sites confirming this.
For each individual I think the end result is going to vary. People are very different, some people can be killed by a severe alleric reaction to a peanut. For a subset of the population eating asparagus will make their urine take on a distinctive smell, an even smaller subset of the population can smell that smell. There's a huge variety in all sorts ways between every single person on the planet. I hope that everyone who has resconstrructive surgery to make a neovagina out of colon tissue has the best experience possible, the minimum of complications, and resulting in the most happiness with their new body parts. But what you are doing is refusing to accept the fact that its quite possible, if unfortunate, that using colon tissue may have adverse effects, and one of those effects is the possibility of an undesired odour. You say you're all about the science but actions speak louder than words and in your world is seems you cherry pick and choose the facts to suit your world view. There's nothing scientific about that.

False equivalence. Again.

There are a lot of girls who have jumped into horrendous mastectomy and phallo surgeries (which have a high complication rate) at a very young age, who I fear will represent a huge wave in MAiD applications.

It's not uncommon for the amount of corrective procedures required to reach double figures.

AdamRyan · 21/01/2023 09:31

I don't think anyones been spouting nonsense. I think you misread someone's post and took offence.

Why are you willfully misrepresenting what people have said?

I get that you're pro this surgery, but no point in ignoring the facts.

I see as often happens we're being asked to value people's lived experiences, but not those lived experiences.

WandaWomblesaurus · 21/01/2023 09:17

This is absolutely heartbreaking. What a brave person. I wish there was some way that Lois can see that he has worth, just as he is now, and that the pain and suffering doesn't have to end this way for him.

Brefugee · 21/01/2023 08:21

when my DC2 was a teenager and being awkward and teenagery, they brought me home a book, recommended by one of their teachers, about how the human brain develops.
And it was really good, and i already knew a lot of it because i'd been researching how to live with teenagers, but it (and my other reading around the subject) highlighted that typically a human brain is only mature around 23-25 years of age.
Now i don't think everything that adults are allowed to do should be pushed back to that age. But i do think making life-changing decisions with no adult input 10 years before that is dangerous and irresponsible.

Unfortunately, we don't have the resources to really give the best care to everyone who presents as trans to a clinic.

knittingaddict · 21/01/2023 07:46

musingsinmidlife · 20/01/2023 18:34

Of course it doesn't secrete vaginal juices. It also isn't going to produce fecal matter.

WarriorN · 21/01/2023 07:19

MAID will be the tidy solution the other end of their lives.

WarriorN · 21/01/2023 07:18

With regard to posters preferring people not to go through surgery due to the complications involved... On the whole i agree that them not having surgery is better than them suffer ever after, particularly with children in mind, however, afaic, that makes it all the more important that we don't just invite all and sundry of the manz folk into our female spaces because the job of identifying the genuine v the disingenuous will be very much more difficult.

Of course it does - I think genital mutilation in the name of sexism and homophobia should be banned.

But the whole narrative unrolls if it does. Men who think they're women then do have penises. In female spaces.

This is why they're sooooo invested in proving that children are trans, using pbs to stunt their bodies from an early age. It adds credence to the whole ideology. So invested in trans surgical health care.

The savvy do not get srs. The rest are sacrificial lambs.

Witchofthekitchen · 21/01/2023 03:04

This is really sad but honestly is beginning to feel like the direction Canada is happy for this to go in tbh. I strongly suspect MAID is going to become a problem in the future and just like with trans issues, the population are going to just bury their heads in the sand.

When it was first introduced maid was intended for people who had a diagnosed terminal illness and wanted to go out on their own terms, which I am in support of 100%. But, access to maid been expanded since then and while there are supposed to be safeguards in place with regards to who can access it and why, some of the reports that began coming out through the media at the end of last year (albeit with the usual reluctance to shine too bright a light on anything critical) are alarming.

There was a fair amount of noise made about the military veterans who were offered MAID by veterans affairs (allegedly by a single rogue caseworker), though I don’t think much has been said about it since. But I’ve also seen stories of a woman with chemical sensitivities applying for maid because she can’t find appropriate housing and of disabled people applying because their quality of life on disability allowance is below poverty levels or because they’re facing homelessness. Those are just a few of the ones I remember and all are entirely fixable issues, if there was a will to do so. The government wants to continue to expand access to mental health conditions too, supposedly with oversight, but I wonder how much of that there will truly be.

This case, of a trans person choosing MAID because everyone else has turned their back on them and the medical establishment refuses to help fix the problems they’ve caused, does not surprise me but it does alarm me.

The kids being pushed down the trans pathway, in many cases sterilized and left with life-long pharmaceutical dependencies, are the gays kids, the lgb kids, the autistic kids, and the gender non-conforming kids. Now those who come to regret it, instead of being offer care and support are being ignored. Opportunities to research regret and detrans which could help inform care and maybes put the brakes on this just a little bit are being buried and dismissed. Instead, well… if you’re really, truly unhappy, there’s always MAID.

MeanCanadianLady · 21/01/2023 00:46

musingsinmidlife · 20/01/2023 18:44

Are you aware that gay men and some heterosexual couples have anal sex - with a digestive tract with food waste?

You linked to a reddit post of someone who just had the surgery the day before. That isn't a surgical complication.

Colovaginoplasties are also done on infants and female babies born with vaginal insufficiencies. There is a fair amount of research on them. Do you really think parents would agree to a surgery for an infant where your child will be forever left with a smelly gaping hole and incontinence?

The procedure when done properly has far fewer complications and higher satisfaction than a penile inversion. And yes, some of the studies do talk about colovaginoplasty.

I think if a baby is having health problems that require that in the first place then the parents might agree to it if the alternative is worse. I imagine at that point smell is at the bottom of the list of health concerns. Although why you are reading up on that… that’s kind of creepy. Are you okay…? What does an infant’s vaginal health have to do with an adult with very different needs. I don’t think they can be compared.

Rightsraptor · 21/01/2023 00:16

@musingsinmidlife - just adding my astonishment at your phrase 'female babies born with vaginal insufficiencies'.

Who do you think would pick up on a baby's 'vaginal insufficiency' and WTF could that term even mean in relation to a baby? Insufficient for what? Don't let's even think about that.

Stop with the nonsense. It does you no favours.

EpicChaos · 21/01/2023 00:16

@NotBadConsidering " But instead Jazz has a lifetime of medical complications to deal with, because there will need to be a fix, for the fix, for the fix. The list will only increase sadly. "

Another in a similar spot, is someone on youtube called shape shifter, who seems to be having difficulties. I haven't seen much of their stuff to know exactly what the problems are but they seem to have a lot of regret/disappointment.

With regard to posters preferring people not to go through surgery due to the complications involved... MeanCanadianLady · 21/01/2023 00:15

My God this is such a tragic story. I can’t believe our government is allowing this to happen to our people and first nations persons… My heart bleeds. What a dark time to be alive.

DameMaud · 21/01/2023 00:00

musingsinmidlife · 20/01/2023 16:28

Many of them include pictures at various post op points. They are not dealing with gaping wounds. I get people on here want to pretend that no GRS surgery has ever been anything other than an abject failure but that doesn't actually change the facts of what happens. Many surgeons have huge egos and are fixated on doing the best they can - they have honed and refined their skills - they are not just hacking open wounds into bodies and leaving people to deal with it. They don't want their names attached to that.

(Not read to end of thread, so someone else might have linked musings)
This is a an older, relevant thread that I think many might have had come to mind in this discussion:

Shelefttheweb · 20/01/2023 23:39

Not RTFT but surely it is fine to apply for MAiD? I mean, if there were any issues with it then that would suggest MAiD is a bad thing wouldn’t it? And we know it is actually such a good and progressive thing that it is being extended to children and it is argued should be extended to babies. They ask disabled people in hospital if they fancy it too. So all good.

pattihews · 20/01/2023 23:24

I'm sure I've heard Jordan Peterson and others who know about this stuff saying that the human brain can take to the age of 25 to mature. Women tend to mature earlier than men.

guinnessguzzler · 20/01/2023 22:45

Frankly, it's totally barbaric.
