When trans rights trumps children's safety

This story has come about in my local area:

An elderly man spotted wearing a girl’s school uniform near a Leigh secondary school and on a bus “does not pose a risk”, according to police who have urged the public to stop sharing photos of him.

uk.news.yahoo.com/police-man-seen-outside-leigh-163212326.html

This old man is riding school buses and hanging around schools in full girl's uniform and bad wig.

Apparently the schools have had to arrange special assemblies to brief children not to travel alone.

But police don't want anyone to share images of this man online and he has told them that he is not a risk.

He's clearly not trans, but I fear that the police are so scared of the subject that they're allowing this behaviour to continue.

Did the Police in making their risk assessment take into account the case of Michael Wilson? His sentence seemed mild though compared to the trauma he caused. I won’t post a link, just search on ‘Michael Wilson school uniform’ if you are not clued in on this.

I don't like the idea of the state being able to tell people what they can and can't wear but there are clearly people (almost always men) who are getting a sexual thrill by forcing people to become unwilling participants in their fetish. The discomfort felt around a man like this comes from the absolute knowledge that you are taking part in a sexual act with him. We know this is beyond creepy, we know it is sexually motivated, but it seems difficult to legislate against it. Again, it's an example of predators finding loopholes and in no way being shamed by the 'sissification' of becoming a 'woman' in exploiting them. The fact that the police want us to play along and pretend this is completely harmless is totally stupid and beyond disturbing.

Boiledbeetle · 21/01/2023 17:53

I notice that despite Pie coming back to the thread she missed my post so I'll ask again

...and concluded he hasn't committed any crime and doesn't pose any risk. Police have also asked the public to stop sharing photos of him on social media.

I also don't see what this has to do with transpeople or trans-rights?

At any point in the recent past this man, who also has a PRIMARY SCHOOL UNIFORM THAT HE WEARS IN PUBLIC would have been dealt with appropriately. He is loitering outside schools wearing a girl's school uniform, following the children onto the bus and taking photos. He has uniforms for both primary and secondary schools.

Up until recently everyone called this gentleman exactly what i can't call him on here, we all see it we all recognise it for what it is.

What has changed in the last few years that suddenly means a man with a thing for children can brazenly dress in a girl's school uniform and stare at, photograph and harass children?

Come on Marge, think. Join the dots.

What's so different about the world now?

Why has this man been allowed to continue with his frankly worrying behaviour?

What has changed?

Why is a grown man suddenly getting away with this?

Why does he feel free suddenly to be able to do this now and not ten years ago?

Come on Pie, it's not that difficult.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 21/01/2023 17:46

This is good advice regardless.

Telling girls not to travel alone on public transport to and from school? How is that "good advice regardless"? How is that a normal happy childhood, scared to go to school by yourself?

EsmaCannonball · 21/01/2023 17:41

But if we listen to politicians in the recent GRA debates then many of them would argue that this man is in fact a woman, genuine about being a woman, acting in good faith and not using gender as a loophole for predatory behaviour. Those of us who see him as a risk to children are creating a moral panic to whip up hate against men ( also known as society's most vulnerable group).

If those politicians want to stand by their words then they also need to stand by this man and support him in living as his authentic self. If his authentic self is a 10 year old schoolgirl then so be it.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 21/01/2023 17:31

DSIL told DH yesterday that he trespassed onto school grounds at one point (DNiece goes to Belfairs). That's the limit of DH's knowledge at present, but assume he was removed pretty quickly.

"Kids are being told not to travel alone."

This is good advice regardless.

Why is that "good advice regardless"? Is it because there are old men loitering around schools and buses who may be a risk? And why does everyone else have to modify their behaviour to fit in around ill-behaviour?

Five years ago, no one would be defending old men hanging around schools in girls uniform. It is already harassment. But now because of the climate, people are "be kind, he hasn't done anything yet".

The police have given a green light to anyone with nefarious reasons to come to Essex where you can loiter around schools as long as you cross-dress.

If this has got nothing to do with trans rights, why are you defending him? Would you employ him as a babysitter for your children or grand-children? If not, why not? The police have said that he is "no risk".

OP posts:
Chersfrozenface · 21/01/2023 15:25

If he doesn't present a risk, why are the schools advising children not to travel alone?

On the bus to school from home and back, mind.

The schools evidently don't believe the police and do believe he presents a risk.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 21/01/2023 14:43

There's a contradiction if the police say he is harmless while the schools tell children not to travel alone. If that's because of him then this one person has limited the freedom and independence of hundreds of children. And it makes vulnerable children more vulnerable - the isolated bullied kid who leaves school late to avoid the others, what are they supposed to do?

What kind of harmless is that?

MargaritaPie · 21/01/2023 13:27

Kids are being told not to travel alone.

Carry your keys between your fingers.
Don't wear your hair in a ponytail.
Don't wear revealing clothing.
Wear flat shoes so you can run.
Don't get too drunk.
Don't take a shortcut through the park.
Try in stay in groups.

Sound familiar?

Nothing changes... instead of dealing with the elephant as usual.

Dodecaheidyin · 21/01/2023 11:59

I've seen rumours about where the man may potentially live (like what town), if that is the case then he is making 7-10 mile bus journeys to those schools. He is also visiting another town. Essentially the excuse that he is mentally incapable doesn't fit with the fact that he knows all the various buses to take to get to those locations.

And he knows not to shite on his own doorstep.

ReunitedThorns · 21/01/2023 11:49

So some more background:

  • If Belfairs sounds familiar to people it is the area where Sir David Amess MP was murdered. Anna Firth is his replacement and that is who people are contacting about this situation.
  • I've seen rumours about where the man may potentially live (like what town), if that is the case then he is making 7-10 mile bus journeys to those schools. He is also visiting another town. Essentially the excuse that he is mentally incapable doesn't fit with the fact that he knows all the various buses to take to get to those locations.
  • For a number of secondary schools he has been around, they are also opposite primary schools, so the number of affected schools is much greater.
  • He's been into the specific school uniform stores, so again knows the particular shops to buy from. You can't just buy this stuff from anywhere.

Exactly. Transvestism and crossxxxxxxx are under the big umbrella. You can’t have it both ways.

I would appreciate a response from stonewall and other trans activist groups. Do you condone this behaviour? Do you consider it to be harmless and acceptable? Do you consider that children are being put at harm and at risk of escalating harm? Is this the sort of world you are campaigning for? For it to be normal to see adult Males wearing school uniforms around children coming and going to school? I would like to know if there are people who do not see a problem here? Do you see parents and other members of the public who object as bigots for picking on a marginalised, vulnerable cross dresser?

CruCru · 21/01/2023 11:28

I was reading the AIBU thread on this (it filled up pretty quickly).

I think I would think this absolutely peculiar regardless of who was doing it - should an adult woman dress in schoolgirl uniform and make a point of riding the bus at the same time as the kids, I would think her very strange as well.

I expect that the schools involved are absolutely appalled by this - some dude hanging around and (supposedly) trying to climb into the playgrounds.

I really liked someone on the other thread’s suggestion that the children wear mufti for the next couple of weeks. This person probably really enjoys the attention (even negative attention) so having the children wear their own clothes means he can’t pretend to blend in with them.

It’s a bit off topic but I hate that school uniforms are a fetish. I remember getting so much more crap when I was in uniform than my normal clothes. The girls may feel less vulnerable if they can wear jeans and a hoodie.

'I also don't see what this has to do with transpeople or trans-rights?'

How else does this need to be explained?

Older man
Dresses as a school girl (transvestite) posing a risk to young children - I'm not actually sure if he's fully trans or not but frankly that doesn't matter
Transvestites are in the umbrella term for trans people

This has EVERYTHING to do with transpeople. He has NO right to stepping foot on a children's school bus!!!!!

Exactly. Transvestism and crossxxxxxxx are under the big umbrella. You can’t have it both ways.

Yes, I was so thankful that yesterday this subject was the trending topic and that it got picked up by Glinner, KJK, Reduxx etc to lead to greater exposure.

It's always the same thing "this will never happen to us", we can laugh at Canadian teachers etc, but when it is happening literally on the streets of your home town that's when it hits. (I can identify some of the streets he's been photographed on.)

This man has seemingly been doing it daily this week (no reports on Friday, possibly hiding), and the police have essentially given him the green light to carry on (whilst standing on guard outside some of the affected schools).

The publicity is to shame Essex police into stopping the man, at least confiscate the uniforms. The photos need to be shared to shame him into stopping, and to stop misidentification (people can see quite clearly that he doesn't fit in, and not think that it is someone quite good at passing).

We all know that this sort of behaviour escalates, he's already bold enough to go out daily in it, be on buses with the children and stare at them (which I now thought was classified as criminal sexual harassment). It's pretty obvious what the next steps will be.

Agree this behaviour does usually escalate. Next it will be flashing. Do we all then just chuckle and say silly man. And we have learnt from recent Met Police issues that flashing can lead on to very serious behaviour.

MichelleScarn · 21/01/2023 11:23

Ah but @Villagetoraiseachild his photos are just harmless and what he likes to do to appease a 30 year old need, poor lamb. The photos highlighting what he's doing are just mean and unfair remember....everyone especially the children should embrace this and go and have a gentle chat with him. Hmm

Villagetoraiseachild · 21/01/2023 11:12

So, photos of man in school uniform, requested not to be shared.....
Man in school uniform is taking photos on the bus.
Could the police kindly check that man in school uniform's photos of kids on the ( school) bus are not being shared......

aylis · 21/01/2023 10:56

I'm really frustrated by the naivety around this. There is no way the police can credibly state categorically that he poses no risk. The police are usually untrained or poorly trained in this kind of thing. Look at how indecent exposure is generally treated just as naively by both the police and general society who think its a bit of a chuckle. The police's narrative that he's a harmless wee elderly man is appalling and it's leading people to think he's a stupid old doddery fool who doesn't know what he's doing. Even if he himself is vulnerable or has mental health issues it does NOT preclude him being a threat. He's aware enough to have lied to the uniform shop. Predators are THE most manipulative group and it's not beyond the realms he's just yet another man pulling the wool over the polices eyes. They've totally abdicated their responsibility with their statement, they've failed to reassure concerned parents, teachers and students and instead created a 'poor man' narrative. Disgusted.

This is the problem. You have your people who want to live life as the opposite sex. There is growing evidence of an undeniable subset (of whatever size), under this cloak, who have sexually charged/ predatory motives and the denial of their existence and the blanket insistence that trans women are women, raises all sorts of safeguarding concerns. It’s easier for the police to say shut up about these concerns.

Because we've all to subscribe to the dysphoria we are to ignore basic safeguarding. It’s nuts.

mellowbanana · 21/01/2023 06:24

I would be concerned about this. I wouldn't be comfortable with an 11yo getting the bus with this man! Shame there's no common sense left. Has anyone asked why he feels it's appropriate.
