I know it's a daily mail article but I can't help thinking. We only ever hear positive stories but the figures tell us this. I really hope the men and woman are getting the support they need from these complications. 🥺

Half of trans surgery patients suffer pain, sexual issues years later mol.im/a/11629421 via dailym.ai/android

@Aposterhasnoname , that was a particularly vile moment in a reality show of vile moments

There's plenty of videos/animations showing male→'female' but none the other way round. Presumably they do a hysterectomy but what about the vagina, and the clitoris, do they just bin it?

There was a transwoman in USA last week giving a lecture on pushing forward with uterine transplants for transwomen. They worked with children in a gender services department of a hospital.

The idea was cavadar donations of wombs in the future would be supplemented by live womb donations from young TransMen.

So coaching young teens that they are 100% trans and to have hysterectomies and donating those organs to men.

It sound like it can't be real right? But sadly it is. Children seem to be disposable to do many involved in this area of medicine

These are people that I just can't feel sorry for no matter what they're going through. It sounds really harsh but I just can't

Teenagers who choose to go down this route are often autistic, often gay, often have a history of abuse or neglect.

All are told by someone that being gender nonconforming means they are the opposite sex, and many organisations will affirm this stance.

Some will go on as adults to opt for surgery. The risks of these are often hidden or downplayed by the online communities encouraging these vulnerable people. They are not making a free choice with all information available to them. Many photos have been shared of young women posing with their mastectomy scars, alongside arms, stomach and legs covered in self harm scars - these are not healthy young women making rational choices, these are deeply mentally ill youngsters who need far better support than they are getting, instead of the disturbing validation and affirmation tgg by et get from all round.

Schools, drs, MH orgs, charities (especially Mermaids and NAS) should all be stopped from encouraging young people to transition and see it as a positive thing. For some it may be, for many the euphoria and ease from mental issues is temporary, for some it’s immediately apparent that it was a mistake.

Sorry kid woke up just seen dilating. Surely they don't have to do that forever???? I just hate the thought these kids / teenagers being told it will cure stuff. What about if they want to have kids later??? How does that work?

And if you really want to be really horrified look up a certain well known child trans person who’s mother told them
if they wouldn’t do it, she would.

FOJN · 17/01/2023 11:46

I'm afraid that's why I just draw the line at no male people in female spaces. More than happy to see third spaces, though. We just need to hang on to single-sex provision.

I agree, we have experimented with allowing some males into female spaces because we thought it was a kindness but now we have males abusing the system it's no longer safe for women to be kind so we have to have a clear and unambiguous line, no males in female spaces.

I do have sympathy for the TW who were just getting on with their life after transition but I can't throw women under the bus because their movement has been co-opted by incredibly bad faith actors.

Its unfair to accuse women of causing this shit show, we have given the experiment a decent go and it hasn't worked out well for us.

In some areas of England and all of Wales the NHS will fund the following for trans patients :

  • breast enlargement (rare but has happened)
  • laser body hair removal
  • voice therapy (to sound more female)
  • vaginoplasty
  • orchiectomy (removal of testes)
  • intestinal vaginoplasty (using a piece of large intestine to create the ‘vaginal’ cavity
  • vulvoplasty
  • penectomy
  • clitoroplasty

for female born trans patients

  • phalloplasty (extremely high complication rate)
  • double mastectomy (with or without repositioning of nipples)
  • metoidioplasty
  • hysterectomy
  • vaginectomy
  • urethroplasty
  • glansplasty

There are quite a few more. All can be done on an 18 yr old who has ‘lived in a gender role in keeping with your gender identity’ for 12 months. All are medically unnecessary and not available to people without a trans identity.

For example, in some areas, women with PCOS causing excess facial hair cannot get permanent hair removal on the NHS.

Women under approx 30 cannot obtain a hysterectomy even for chronic pain because they might change their mind about having babies. Yet a female born trans person can do this at 18.

Autistic girls are vulnerable and are being led down this path.

I am the parent of an autistic girl who has been told she must be trans because she has sensory issues which mean she feels more comfortable in boys clothes. Doesn't like make up and doesn't have the social communication skills that other girls her age has so doesn't do the normal chit chat associated with girls.

I am lucky (or perhaps she is) because she believes me when I've told her there is no wrong way to be a girl.

Many autistic girls her age now identify as boys or non binary. Their families have been led to believe that puberty blockers and double mastectomies are the appropriate treatment for autism.

Agencies like CAMHS are complicit in this. They explore gender (or at least they used to ) then signpost to Mermaid.

This is coercion and it's fucking appalling that vulnerable autistic girls are queing up to be sterilised as a result.

Thank you for this.
I'm sorry you and your DD had to go through that.

Pearlygates · 17/01/2023 11:07

Coerced? Please elaborate. Maybe it's my ignorance but I thought in these type of situation it's always THEIR choice to go ahead and do these surgeries. And how does mental health play a role in this? Again, maybe it's just my ignorance.

Phalloplasties are nightmarish botch-jobs. Absolutely horrendous stuff.

nymag.com/intelligencer/article/gabriel-mac-essay.html

Same for neo-vaginas.

This is extreme body modification not "healthcare".

Should adults be able to do that to their own bodies? Probably, yes. Bodily autonomy and all that.

Should they be able to access it under the guise of "healthcare"? Definitely not, no.

And there is absolutely no excuse for telling children that this sort of modification will "affirm" an "identity". That's just dangerous and disingenuous.

That article made me feel sick to my stomach.

Who decides what is a physical issue though

The NHS do when deciding what to fund - they’ll give you a nose job if you can’t breathe or broke it, not if you think it’s ugly and want a cute button nose. Clearly they’re not always right either though!

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 17/01/2023 11:15

For anyone who doesn't want to go through the Daily Mail here's a link to the original research paper - it's open access.
doi.org/10.1002/nau.25132

When grown adults are choosing this when there is plenty of information out there stating the high risk, they can do what they like.

Is there though? Where is it? Can I read it? Because everything I have read either uses medical jargon and needs a lot of medical background to understand or it's been so fucking coy .

If there's a consumer guide to this in everyday language then I would really love to know!

Presumably they are making an informed decision.

A million scam artists can tell you that being over 18 doesn't automatically make anyone fully informed and able to make a good decision.

There has to be a point where adults are allowed to make their own decisions, as long as they are fully informed of the risks.

Please point me at the "Which?" guide that fully informs everyone of the risks Grin

Recent WPATH World Professional Association for Transgender Health guidelines, which claim to be the international standard for trans healthcare, have been carefully written to (a) maximise the amount of surgery that (US) health insurance will pay for and (b) minimise risk of (US) doctors being sued and (c) do not contain a section on medical ethics.

One example was yesterday someone said they were happy for trans women to use womens spaces but only if they'd had the surgery to create a vagina. If a transwoman doesn't want the full surgery, that is their choice. And a choice I support as vaginoplasty is incredibly painful and I can 100% understand why someone would want to avoid that level of pain.

Sorry to hear about your pain.
With self-id, I think some people hold on to the notion of "must've had surgery" as a quick and dirty way to ascertain who is "genuine". But I agree with you, I don't think there should be any external incentive in surgery especially like this where it is so highly risky.

I'm afraid that's why I just draw the line at no male people in female spaces. More than happy to see third spaces, though. We just need to hang on to single-sex provision.

You don't care about children with mental health problems who are coerced into permanently mutilating their bodies, losing their future fertility and living with regular pain (and thus resulting deeper MH issues) by professional adults whom they should be able to trust? Really?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/01/2023 10:52

Normal was the wrong word. By normal I meant, basically, pain free.

Fair enough, maybe; but what if 'normal' is far from pain-free? We see enough threads on here where natal females don't know how much pain with periods, childbirth and postnatal legacies should be considered 'normal'. Not that there actually is a 'normal' - as if 'women' were just one big homogenous lump.

Obviously I don’t mean surgery to fix a genuine physical issue. I mean surgery to completely functional, healthy body parts that weren’t causing any physical problem, just to appease what is a mental health or self esteem issue.

Who decides what is a physical issue though

littlelid · 17/01/2023 10:50

JusteanBiscuits · 17/01/2023 10:06

Having had vaginoplasty. Yes, it's incredibly painful (one reason I am very strongly against people being forced into having full trans surgery). Yes, it creates life long problems. I don't know anyone who has had it (I am on a facebook group for people in the same situation as me) who is left feeling 'normal'. I was made aware that this would be the reality after it.

As long as you were made aware of it and understood this then I don't see the issue

kc431 · 17/01/2023 10:48

JusteanBiscuits · 17/01/2023 10:38

No. Not at all. What about those that have had serious burns, for example. Do you think plastic surgery to correct painful scarring is "selling them a solution"?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/01/2023 10:46

Although puberty blockers are touted as being 'fully reversible' and 'just a pause' to give the child time to think.

Aside from all of the stinking obvious negative physical effects that anybody can see, nobody can ever fully know (if they even bothered to try to research it) the damage that this can all do to a person's mental and emotional health and any resulting traumas for somebody whose mental wellbeing is already clearly compromised.

It's basically wading blindly and full-pelt in to the unknown: very much like a great deal of the dubious research that's done on rats, where the researchers know that they can be bold and try the craziest, most dangerous experiments and then, worst-case scenario, it's 'only a rat' that they can disregard and fling into a bin. Except they are now ignoring the rats and doing it on human children.

minipie · 17/01/2023 10:46

The bloke who identified as an alien clearly found some doctors willing to remove the tip of his nose, his ears, his top lip and 2 fingers.

Yep and the medical community regards these doctors as morally dubious at best.

StalkedByASpider · 17/01/2023 10:45

I'm so glad this is being spoken about more widely. It's a horror show that's been occurring right in the open, but no one seemed to notice or care what was happening.

With Mermaids being investigated and the Tavistock being closed, and of course the Cass report, I hope people are beginning to see how genuinely awful it is.

I read a thread some months ago about Ritchie, a detransitioner, and his story was just horrific. I'm going to link the thread here - it's well worth reading through everything as he describes life post-surgery. The bit about dripping really got me. The whole thing is just bloody awful.

twitter.com/TullipR/status/1536422533230206976

minipie · 17/01/2023 10:44

It's all fucking madness. If I identified as a one armed woman, no doctor in the land would surgically remove one of my arms.
If I identified as a three armed woman, again, no surgeon in the land would affix a third arm onto my body.

There are some people who feel like one or more of their healthy limbs is “wrong” and want it removed. For some it’s a sexual fetish about amputation but for others it’s just a feeling that this part of their body shouldn’t be there. These people are often very unhappy with their bodies as they are.

These people are regarded as having a mental health issue and are referred for therapy rather than given a medically unnecessary amputation. I think this says it all.
