Forgive me if this has been already mentioned, but I saw this graph on the BBC webpage recently and it says that 63 percent of women support Scotland’s gender reform bill, even though it could erode women’s rights. 49 percent of men supported it. Why is there this disparity?

Also I'm going to leave this here, for people who aren't clear on what the reforms actually are

I’m going to leave this here for people who would like a legal analysis by a lecturer in Public Law on how the GRR impacts on wider UK provisions and why s35 can be used https://policyexchange.org.uk/publication/the-scottish-gender-recognition-reform-bill/

Finally. Great news.

cravingtoblerone · 16/01/2023 19:45

Thank God. Common sense prevails...

Dougalskeeper · 16/01/2023 19:45

Good news at last, but this is only a battle not the whole war. We need to be ready for more of the same.

TheBelmont · 16/01/2023 19:44

Urgh she doesn’t care at all about trans people or women…or indeed anyone who is not an Indy voter. The whole thing has been contrived to get to this very outcome in the hope of galvanising more support for independence. How much taxpayers money is going to be pissed up the wall pursing legal challenge on this? Millions…meanwhile our schools are an embarrassment, our public services are shocking and our nhs has fallen apart. She is despicable.

Swissmountains · 16/01/2023 19:43

Full frontal attack 😂😂
Bloody hell is she having an actual laugh now?
Smoking the same thing as Harry!!! 😁😁

I once upon a time liked nicola sturgeon but she's not even coming close to being sensible on this. I for one am glad the bill had been rejected as it should be

I think many of us used to at least have respect for Sturgeon's political skills and abilities.

I'm finding that respect is eroding by the minute, though.

teawamutu · 16/01/2023 19:34

If the SNP do go for JR, am I right in thinking they'll have to submit all the documentation and advice that proves they took the decision correctly and considered all legal ramifications...?

moggiek · 16/01/2023 19:32

Great news!!

Anothernameonthewall · 16/01/2023 19:28

@54isanopendoor I hope all goes well for your daughter. My niece is autistic and in p7. She's finding it hard to traverse the path of trans identifying boys in the fires bathrooms and periods. It's grim that our most vulnerable children ate being exposed like this. But, it is opening peoples eyes to how insidious and vile this whole movement is.

What is actually wonderful new is the light and sunshine this is going to flood over the subject. It will be headlined for months, if not years, assuming NS will actually try and defend this nonsense - and if she does, she will be doing us - and the rest of the world - the greatest favour of all.

It will bring the loss of women's rights and identity onto the stage, the discussion, investigative journalism that will follow will show just how bloody dangerous this is. For so long we have been silenced on this subject, but now oxygen, conversation and debate will flow into the public consciousness. Normal people will understand why people are fighting so hard to be heard, to remain protected by the recognition of our sex - and for some our vulnerability.

This the very best thing that could have happened. On every talk show, in every paper and in every office and school we will be talking about this - and believe me the support will rocket.

This is something everyone should be talking about - it affects 51% of the entire population. Even Starmer is rowing back furiously.

Thank you to those on here especially that spread the sunshine and the light.

@Swissmountains brilliant post!

Great news, delighted

Well that was the plan...

Wonder if the TRA's knew NS was using them as a pawn in her power game with Westminster?

Totally agree.

"the Scottish government is likely to mount a legal challenge in response."

There's still a chance...

Anyway it would appear most gender-criticals are the older generation. Not to worry, just give it another couple of decades and you will find most of society will be LGBT+ supportive.

Even if it doesn't pass this time, it will in the not-too-distant future :)

Yes, when we're all dead you can do whatever you want darling.

And the best of British luck with it.

Justsurfing · 16/01/2023 19:16

fantastic news 😁

ArabellaScott · 16/01/2023 19:16

The weakness in the Scotgov is one of the things we've been railing about for years.

They don't listen. They've dismissed women and our concerns. They've tried to use a 'consultation' to 'persuade' people to agree. They managed to hobble the SNP and suppress internal dissent quite successfully, but there does come a time when your censorious and manipulative exertions work against you.

This is what happens when you try to force batshit bad law on an unwilling populace. We've seen it again and again - all the people who work so hard to convince themselves they're on the Right Side of History failed to listen, and so fall when they come up against reality.

Most people know that you can't change sex.
Most people don't want women and children exposed to more risk.
Most people don't support self ID.

That covers all ages and all demographics within Scotland.
