A not entirely surprising judgement - though GLP are challenging:

My cousin got her double mastectomy a year or so ago. Think she put it on a credit card. An adult but barely out of a turbulent adolescence.

I suppose I can't help thinking what a fundamentally weird thing to do. So very strange that there are any surgeons at all who will do this.

I too struggle with the fact that somewhere out there are trained surgeons who knowingly remove healthy body parts from (young) women who maybe haven’t yet discovered their breasts as a source of sexual pleasure and most certainly haven’t yet breastfed any babies. It’s truly tragic.

I suppose if these double mastectomies are carried out at the patients’ own expense as per @PermanentTemporary’s post above, the surgeons must be making money from carrying out this irreversible surgery.

I wonder what proportion of the youngsters will look back on the waiting time with gratitude as they mature?

As will the NHS lawyers when they see all the cases being won by damaged young women round the world. The waiting list will save a lot of money, I suspect.

Helen Webberley went off script on Twitter last night:

Top surgery is a completely routine and normal procedure that helps reduce gender dysphoria in trans men - a debilitating mental health issue that sadly takes so many lives every year.

“Top surgery is a completely routine and normal procedure…(for) ..a debilitating mental health issue…”

a) “top surgery” = double mastectomy
b) no, it’s NOT routine or normal to have a double mastectomy for anything other than breast cancer, in which case it’s undertaken to save a woman’s life. No woman undergoes this procedure lightly or without emotional distress.
c) for which other debilitating mental health issues is it “routine and normal” to remove HEALTHY body parts from often very young women? Is the stomach removed from anorexic teenagers, for example?

And there we have it, double mastectomies for young females with debilitating mental health problems.

They keep arguing that trans is not a MH condition, at pains to state that and offensive to those with MH conditions imo, so why should there be any NHS treatment at all. If it isn't a medical condition then surgeries are cosmetic and should be treated as such

They keep arguing that trans is not a MH condition...

And they have backing. The World Health Organisation voted four years ago for new diagnostic guidelines that no longer describe gender nonconformity as a “mental disorder".

So, as you say, why would being trans require any medical treatment at all?

I don't think the people who contribute to GLP do it because they think there is a good chance of success, I think they have to be driven ideologically.

I think it is a mix. Obviously GLP knows how to manipulate people and relies on people being unquestioning zealots. They certainly make out they have a chance of success in their crowdfunding appeals even though their cases are often weak. That money might have done real damage elsewhere.

GLP's legal incompetence helped Brexit be achieved, and undermined the TRA cause it seems pretty clear. He is the last person you want on your side. Plus Jolylon is a one man peaking machine.

Such a good point - and yet another one of the incoherent demands that typify so much of this ideology.

At some point, will the Judiciary decide these cases are vexatious and force the GLP to take a more considered approach to litigation. Perhaps the funders are zealots and really don't care if cases are lost?

Is there a link anywhere to the court decision?

Chersfrozenface · 31/07/2023 18:08

Thank you very much. I may print those out and put them in pretty frames.

Does anyone have a list of cases and appeals that GLP have won and lost, in two columns? I would love to see it

As you wish.

Luckily someone has done exactly that for the Good Scam project. The cases in red were defeated i.e most of them. Two images one up to Dec 2022 the second shows till the start of July so doesn't include the latest defeat.

To be honest the scam is a real winner for our side imagine if the TRAs gave their money to competent lawyers. Instead they are paying for new kimonos. Joylon in fact has handled the cases so badly that it has brought a bunch of new evidence to light which has undermined Mermaids further. Plus Judges are getting more and more irritated by their nonsense so their cases inevitably are looked dimly on before they start.

If we are handing out prizes to TRAs who self sabotage they are surely in the running.

If you are interested in exactly how much money the scam has made plenty more stats and charts here.
https://labourpainsblog.com/2023/01/03/good-law-project-not-lookin-like-a-true-survivor/

Altogether the scam has got over 11 million pounds through crowdfunding.

popebishop · 31/07/2023 17:22

Didn't know they were doing this but good to hear.

I'll say it again, I don't understand why this group of people are so insistent that e.g. man-gendered people should have male (or approximating male) bodies. Isn't that hugely old-fashioned, and anti-trans?

PronounssheRa · 31/07/2023 17:12

And GLP have lost the court of appeal challenge

People are wrong about Jolylon, he doesn't care about the actual causes, he's just after the crowd-funding paying his salary and picking particular cases that he knows will generate a lot of money. He's a grifter.

I think that over time he's become this, it's all too easy to crowdfund large amounts of money for cases which don't stand a chance of winning.
I think in the long run he'll do more harm than good for the trans cause by clarifying the law by judgements made against them - not in the way they hoped.

.

Shelefttheweb · 17/01/2023 09:39

Was this the case where the judge had to tell him to work out what they were actually wanting to argue about because they didn’t seem to have worked out what it was?
