Pitts Children’s Hospital looking into transplant of vagina/uterus from live donors

The Gender and Sexual Development programme at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh has been researching and presenting on transplant of female reproductive organs such as vagina and uterus from live donors into tw.

The ‘study’ carried out asked 182 tw if they would like to have female body parts transplanted so that they could experience menstruation, pregnancy and child birth. 94% of respondents said yes.

I know this has been discussed as a desire in various forums for some time but seeing a Children’s Hospital that also treats gender dysphoric children with puberty blockers and x sex hormones was still a surprise.

Apart from the fact that it seems medically impossible when you consider the complexities of a female body and how brilliantly designed we are, does this sound rather concerning when a hospital that also treats vulnerable young girls is looking to source organs and carry out transplants?

What do the donors do without a vagina?
An ovary transplant would also be necessary as this is involved in menstruating but how would you make ovaries function in a male body?

Modern science is still a long way behind on women’s health and understanding of our bodies - how do they think they know enough to replicate our reproductive capability in a male body?

Also, The Danish Girl. The recipient died from it...

Has it ever been established who they took the womb from?

OMG
this is utterly awful
someone should make a book/film out of this it’s so contentious
oh hang on, they already did
it’s called ‘Never Let Me Go’

Also, The Danish Girl. The recipient died from it...

Apparently the (hypothetical and fictional) plan is to get the relevant reproductive organs from transmen. The story is that transmen are keen for these non-useful parts of their bodies to be put to good use.

There are no words for how dystopian and unethical this idea is.

<removes self from organ donor registry>

I and many others did just this many years ago now.
Theres a thread about it in the annals of MN somewhere.

This exact scenario came up and the organ donation site wasnt absolutely clear wether any reproductive parts could be re used.
We were of course roundly derided as "this would never happen "

Hahahhahahaha

*implant (not transplant)

An adolescent uterus is not fully matured. Teenage girls have babies but there are dangers and risks associated with that, the size of the female pelvis being one.

How would a teenage uterus mature in a male body, who would presumably not be a teenager🧐..and where would it go? I assume somewhere in the abodomen but men have other organs there, you can't just cut out the prostate and pop in a uterus and expect it to be accepted as a transplanted organ let alone function. There are different shapes for one!

These people are idiots. Dangerous idiots. There shouldn't be anywhere near any child, healthy or not.

Tinysoxxx · 13/01/2023 14:29

(Sorry that didn’t post properly)…..so many people waiting for a good match on the transplant list.

Tinysoxxx · 13/01/2023 14:26

Don’t remove yourselves from the donor registry please. This won’t happen in this country (I would hope ever but at least for a long time) and removing yourself, as a protest, when you could have a chance of saving someone else in reality is sad when there are so qa

The (horrific) Chinese rat study should have put the kibosh on this Buffalo Bill fantasy.

To make “male pregnancy” work they literally had to sew a male rat with a uterus implant to a pregnant female rat so it became a very large parasite upon the body and endocrine system and immune system of a pregnant female.

Unsurprisingly, even this horrific procedure failed nearly every time, IIRC there was only one “success” at bringing the fetus located in a parasitic male body to term.

I’m sure the people conducting this “study” know it’s impossible- usually scientists or doctors discussing this are in the transgender industry and seem to be motivated by the desire for MtF fantasists to give them money.

Imagine the horror and confusion that those rats were put through, after being sewn together. They wouldn't have been able to get away from each other at all.

So, we have a situation where the medical profession are shaming expectant mothers about drinking half a glass of prosecco at Christmas, yet are falling over themselves to try and gestate a human baby in a fucking man?!!!!

Don't be so silly. The medical profession is completely fine with the prosecco and absolutely not interested in trying to get men pregnant.

A couple of whack jobs on either item says nothing at all about the medcial profession, and its ridiculous of you to suggest such a thing. Quite offensive too.

DarkDayforMN · 13/01/2023 14:11

On the bright side if it does work

I mean, it won’t work. But perhaps any serious research into the topic (which has never happened) would have the side effects of curing female infertility and give some insight into pregnancy complications and how they can be are prevented.

If male pregnancy were made possible, then women would benefit from pregnancy being so well understood as to make the impossible happen.

weirdly however all the “research” into this topic seems to focus on butchering women’s body parts and torturing female rats. Almost like it’s driven by misogyny and biology denial, not from a desire to actually understand how pregnancy works.

It’s a shame that the same excitement can’t be mustered for research into making pregnancy and childbirth easier for women.

This is what I cut and paste whenever this gruesome subject comes up:

This business of uterine "transplants" into men appears to be about science but it is not. It's about getting the idea out there that men can give birth too, but not just yet, there are a few technical details to be sorted out first. So while we're waiting for the inevitable, let's get on with the social sciences side of things and accept that since men can give birth too (not yet, but soon, soon, it's bound to happen), then there are no real differences between men and women in terms of things that are material and significant, they're just bodies with an interchangeable set of parts. The actual significant differences are surface ones like the chosen forms of appearance.

It is about trying to change how people think by assuming a medical horror is a run-of-the-mill thing just round the corner. It's Overton Window stuff, not science.

Yes, we must never lose focus of this.

TheClogLady · 13/01/2023 13:53

On the bright side if it does work we can demand straight men start taking up their fair share of the pregnancy/child birthing within their family units (wives can carry baby one and then donate her uterus to hubby for baby 2! Rinse and repeat if hubby runs off with younger OW!) and that gay men have dead-donor uteruses installed rather than exploiting poor women in developing countries via surrogacy!

We’re gonna need a LOT more surgeons but the rate of Maternity pay should go up considerably!

IcakethereforeIam · 13/01/2023 13:49

Explains why young women are being encouraged down this path. All those spare uterine bit and bobs for the tw. It's the US, so they'll probably be paid or get treatment reduced or free for their own 'gender affirming care'.

I have to point out that we are not beautifully designed in that we are not designed at all.

It's fantasy. It's not even sci-fi because that needs an actual scientific basis. It's pure, unadulterated fantasy.

amylou8 · 13/01/2023 13:49

Maybe they could arrange a swap. TW seeks TM for willy/vag swap. I wouldn't even be surprised.

nauticant · 13/01/2023 13:48

I've long thought that the less complex "medical solution" would be a head transplant onto a body of the opposite sex.

It seems to me that if you are going to try and transplant a whole load of different body parts between two people which probably won't work due to the chassis being the wrong chassis, not having the right hormones etc...
At this point aren't you better off trying to do a brain transplant between the two? Its probably medically simpler, and would involve a lot less chopping and surgery.
Find a female and male who both want to swap, and just swap the brains.
Detransition is gonna get a bit more complicated though........ especially if only one wants to.

HappinesDependsOnYou · 13/01/2023 13:29

I pray this does not work. If it does growing a baby will be next on the list regardless of possible consequences to the child or person carrying it. Its time to realise sex is important. A male born body cannot carry a baby for a reason ffs

If they want to harvest female reproductive systems from their own patients, would this mean that these gender-distressed girls would be kept safe from chemical maltreatment? After all, puberty blockers and cross-sex hormone treatments damage these organs and render them useless.

Not that it would keep them safe from the brain-washing.

Probably just means starting extra early with hysterectomy surgery and only giving female children cross sex hormones (testosterone) after the recipient male has physical ownership of the prized female organ unadulterated by chemicals.

wow. That’s a depressing thought.

LoveBluey · 13/01/2023 13:26

For goodness sake. The money, time, research expertise that this will take would be far better spent on ... well pretty much any other medical problem. Childhood cancer is chronically underfunded and under researched. I can't believe this is real. I mean I can but I wish it wasn't.

DarkDayforMN · 13/01/2023 13:21

Weirdly, the world of FTM surgery is less gung-ho about the imminent arrival of penis transplants www.phallo.net/penis-transplants.htm

It’s like how the technology for two females to have genetic children together has existed since the 90s (in mice, but then the 90s were a long time ago.) But there’s no interest in developing it further, while there is considerable interest in developing ways for two men to have genetic children even though that’s a much, much harder problem.
