Model response to a dilemma for women in the left-right storm (really?)

IwantToRetire · 01/01/2023 19:10

So not satisfied with appropriating the work, ideas and campaigning of one woman and many active supporters, some complete set of nobody film makers have taken it upon themselves to school us silly air heads on how to behave and who to talk to.

Leaving aside the smug condescension of believing the have the right to tell us how to behave, this is a perfect example of where complete nobodies who exploit other people to further their own media career, then assume they are as politically relevant and analytically acute as actual activists.

kaygreen.blog/2022/12/31/model-response-to-a-dilemma-for-women-in-the-left-right-storm/

This is the problem with the media at the moment, presenters and film makers who are just the vehicle to get voices and ideas heard, then think they are entitled to become the spokes person.

Apart from anything else, did these nupties even think maybe we should ask those who the film was actually about. I know they would, having been hand selected as the appropriately politically aligned voices, also refused, but even within the unethical world of these self promoters, do they really think they take precedence.

But it does gives us a clear idea of their moral compass and how they felt able to bandwagon of others work and go to extreme lengths to make sure they are never referred to or acknowledged.

A branch of the KKK was effectively closed down by open minded friendliness. How wonderful

"It's like expecting Martin Luther King to ally himself with the KKK because they've found an issue on which they have common ground. Who gains from such an alliance between feminists and the far right? Clue: it's not the feminists."

The thing is there's this black jazz musician called Daryl Davies who deliberately befriended members of the KKK to find out why they hated him. He spent time talking to them, and they came to know Daryl as a friend. This shattered their racial prejudices and many of the left the KKK, including the Grand High Wizard of Maryland. Over 200 members of the KKK quit the KKK after getting to know Daryl. The KKK in Maryland was decimated to the point of no longer functioning because of one black jazz musician who didn't think it was wrong to talk to the very worst of the worst on the other side. It is the most heartwarming of stories, and it's based on communication and humanity not writing off people as beyond redemption.
You can listen to Daryl tell his story here ( 40 mins long )

or just google Daryl Davies and the KKK
there is a video documentary called "Accidental Courtesy" about the story too

I remember this. Thanks le chiffre

But why did they go to the bother of making a film that they aren't fussed in anyone who doesn't already know the issues watching?

Well that’s just it Tucker Carlson has already had right aligning GC activists on his show numerous times. It’s fair to say that his viewers already know the issues. These filmmakers are not missing out on reaching anyone who hasn’t already been made aware.

The real gap for GC in the US is reaching the left, not the right. That’s why they are not fussed about passing up Tucker Carlson. If they accepted, they’re one of many but it completely sabotages any hope of getting invited to a left wing media outlet. By declining, they are leaving a door open for the opportunity to spread the message to the left wing. And the bait on that hook is their statement saying they are all very pro choice on abortion and other issues near and dear to the US left wing.

beastlyslumber · 04/01/2023 17:13

Who gains from such an alliance between feminists and the far right? Clue: it's not the feminists.

No one is proposing an alliance with the far right.

But I don't understand why you think any groups would ally if there was an obvious detriment to one of them? Surely you make an alliance based on mutual benefit? Why do you assume feminists would lose out - do you think the right have stronger arguments or better ideas? Why would feminists make an alliance that was going to hurt them?

RoyalCorgi · 04/01/2023 09:16

I feel like I've said this many, many times before, but there's right-wing and there's far right-wing. You'll see plenty of left-wing women working happily with Conservative politicians such as Emma Nicholson and Miriam Cates. The American Christian right is a wholly different kettle of fish - much more akin in their views to fascists (and I hate using that word, because it's overused, but this is really what we're talking about). Not only do they have extremist views, but they are very deeply anti-women. It's like expecting Martin Luther King to ally himself with the KKK because they've found an issue on which they have common ground. Who gains from such an alliance between feminists and the far right? Clue: it's not the feminists.

That’s a good analogy really.

I think the way whoever is running the twitter account wrote that statement.

Divisive is the only way to describe that style of communication.

Agree.

lechiffre55 · 04/01/2023 14:45

Compare and contrast Tucker talking to Posie Parker with Jesse Watters having "Doreen" on Fox talking abour reddit anti-work. Interview video 2/3 way through the article. Jesse is clearly not taking "Doreen" seriously, but goes easy on them because I doubt there is much fight in "Doreen" and Fox didn't want to come off as bullies.

@lechiffre55 Yup. He was the same when Kara D was interviewed.

TheWitchesAreBackInTown · 04/01/2023 14:36

Would someone link to the info re: Fox thinking film was linked to KJK please.

lechiffre55 · 04/01/2023 14:32

You'd only have to "hold your own" against someone like Tucker if you had irrational views to defend. In my opinion Tucker would probably treat a gender critical spokesperson quite well and ask them to explain to his audience what gender criticallity was.
I get he can appear to be a bogeyman, and if he starts pushing hard he's had many years of experience so he knows exactly what he's doing. Winding up a guest and pressing their buttons makes for good TV. But he's not stupid and will also take the opportunity for a guest to explain a topical issue.
For example here's Tucker and Posie Parker getting on very well on Fox.
He doesn't go after her at all, he asks her to explain what's going on.

Helleofabore · 04/01/2023 14:20

lechiff

I was always optimistic that that was the case. That talking to those who discounted feminists in the past would benefit from this discussion.

Seems not to be the case that this was a logical thought.

I also considered that even talking to an extremist shock jock of either political side would be beneficial and you would not be aligned with them, or propping up their profits, but actually using their platform to reach a wider reach.

Unless you felt that you would not be able to hold your own in the interview. And let’s face it, we have seen that happen too. So to utilise the advantages of a platform, you need to be an excellent communicator such as Julie Bindel or Kellie Jay Keen. This interview may have had the risk of the interview not going well. Which would have the opposite effect.

Looking at the reactions to the tweet comments, I think I know what could go wrong in an interview with Tucker Carlson.

I do not think that they will make enough from YouTube clicks to cover their costs.

80,000 views would generate abou £150 with monetization.

GrinitchSpinach · 04/01/2023 14:19

You may want to consider the possibility of some on the right getting feminist germs that they can't wash off too.
Taking gender criticality as an example it looks to me that some on the right are taking feminists more seriously. Listening where before they would not have been able to hear.

Hear, hear, lechiffre. I see that beginning to happen, too.

As an American it seems obvious to me that in order to win our battles over laws and policies in the US we have to speak to Republicans sometimes. They hold too much power in our country for us to have the luxury of not trying to persuade them. This doesn't mean we have to endorse all their views and it doesn't mean we can't keep fighting them on abortion and other issues.

I understand completely that British sisters have a different calculus to consider.

I would just really appreciate it, as someone who devotes many unpaid hours each week to the extremely small and underfunded movement in the US, if those in the UK who would never appear on Tucker Carlson, etc, could possibly extend a little empathy to those of us in the US who are struggling to make our voices heard and have made some different choices.

EndlessTea · 04/01/2023 14:17

yy sorry to all the posters so far, but I have just read into it and seen that the only reason why they were offered the interviews/coverage is because TC and Fox News thought that the documentary was Posie’s.

Seeing that they have also got a web address ‘adulthumanfemale’ too, seems like a very deliberate attempt to do/say something wrt Posie - a deliberate effort to confuse her branding or something.

What were they thinking? Surely at their planning meeting someone said “if we go with this as the title and the website, even though we’re not, it’s going to look like we are part of KJK’s SFW, we should go with something else” and everyone else would chime in with “yeah, you’re right, it’s a shame because it is a great title, clear and to the point, but it is going to cause confusion”.

However, either no one with that basic good sense did actually did speak up and suggest it, or if they did, they were over-ruled by people with none.

It doesn’t reflect well on these people.

lechiffre55 · 04/01/2023 14:04

I think some people underestimate the power of rational communication. Probably because of how much irrational communication is being pushed in our faces every day. Like the left, the right isn't united in one single mind. There are nutcases on both sides who belong to insular tribal groups, but there's also lots of rational people who just lean left or right to varying degrees.
There seems to be a belief among some feminists that having anything at all to do with anyone anywhere on the right will taint the feminists with right germs that can't be washed off.
You may want to consider the possibility of some on the right getting feminist germs that they can't wash off too.
Taking gender criticality as an example it looks to me that some on the right are taking feminists more seriously. Listening where before they would not have been able to hear. Clearly there can't be agreement on everything, but even a little common ground means better understanding and appreciation of the other person's point of view, and a willingness to listen.
It may be that the some of the rough edges gets smoothed off the right through contact with feminism, and the occasional shared belief.

EndlessTea · 04/01/2023 13:56

I have only read a few pages in so far, but I think you posters in this thread are covering all my thoughts.

I feel the film makers have made a silly decision, but they are well within their rights to do so, the published letter came across as immature, unfocused and ungracious- so any claims to it being a ‘model response’ is a bit erm 🫤 embarrassing for the left and our country of a stretch.

Like some PPs said, I also hope that it pays off for them and they get some left wing mainstream media interest for it. But I have my doubts.

Fingers crossed!
🤞

beastlyslumber · 04/01/2023 13:35

Ah, so they only got invited because Tucker Carlson's team thought the film was from KJK. Because of course they did, as the filmmakers couldn't come up with an original title generated by themselves.

So they were even more silly not to take advantage of the free publicity - or at least to quietly decline without acting like they were somehow a hot property!

These must be the least media-savvy filmmakers in the history of filmmaking.

This is where I thought they lost the argument. The way they respond to Kara Dansky is embarrassing and rude. They make the UK look awful.

There's room for the reverse; deliberately attempting to reach only left leaning people. Remaining independent. All bases covered. Just as has been said for KJK et Al. These leftist people have an inbuilt filter that automatically rejects anything even slightly connected to the right. They cannot see nuance.

They cannot see nuance.

That is the problem. Right there. Why the film makers and other leftist women and groups don't want to go out of their bubble.

These leftist people have an inbuilt filter that automatically rejects anything connected to the right. They cannot see nuance.

As this thread shows, there are plenty here with an inbuilt filter that rejects anything connected to the left.🤷‍♀️ Not only can they not see the nuance, they have a purity spiral so tight, left wing GC feminists are excluded.

SapphosRock · 04/01/2023 13:20

There are plenty on the left who could benefit from it. It might even educate Keir Starmer that only women have cervixes.

SapphosRock · 04/01/2023 12:22

A group of passionate UK left wing feminists have made a budget £5k film that they don't want to promote using the far right media in America.

I really struggle to see why anyone would have beef with that.

But why did they go to the bother of making a film that they aren't fussed in anyone who doesn't already know the issues watching?
