Saying that feminists concerned with the females of the species are not feministy enough because they don't include men and therefore the feminist board on a female dominated forum should be changed because you the proper feminists who do things the right way agree that men should be included in everyone's feminsm really does prove a need for the feminist forum full of feminists who actually only concern themselves with females.

You see that, right?

Didn’t say that. I am saying that feminism is a separate movement from the GC movement. Elements of feminism are within it, but they are not one and the same.

Honestly, now I know there is a politics talk topic (it still doesn’t come up on my Talk menu), feminism should be moved to be in that category and other movements added under politics.

It’s the librarian in me. Not everything women do politically is feminism by default and that is how the board seems to be set up. But I’m not that fussed. It’s rather like how I load a dishwasher vs others, we all organise things differently.

MarshaBradyo · 22/12/2022 12:09

What’s feminism?

Surely that was and is a political movement centred on women.

So we’re in the right topic anyway.

We centre on women.

Which is a political movement.

”A political movement is a collective attempt by a group of people to change government policy or social values.[1] Political movements are usually in opposition to an element of the status quo,[2] and are often associated with a certain ideology.[3]”

This is ace thanks. So it really does mean that Posie's new political party can be genuinely called a political party in resistance to an ideology.

So helpful.

Intelligent post, FWR is good for this

Resistance to an ideology- this is what I’m getting which makes sense

"GC", assuming by that you mean the right of people to notice sex exists and that replacing it with self defined gender identity is bad for society in general and children and female people in particular is not a political movement, it is a political resistance against the unwanted and unfair imposition of regressive, sexist and homophobic gender ideology upon people who do not believe it and are actively damaged by it.

This is important to recognise because unlike a movement, which typically has leaders and common objectives for change, a resistance is more like a mass of different groups realising at the same time something is going wrong and should be resisted. Some of the individual groups involved may have common goals as well but it's not a prerequisite.

If you have been misunderstanding the resistance to mandatory submitting to gender ideology as a movement, that explains your over-indexing on particular individuals as somehow indicative of the group as a whole, because you are expecting to find leaders where in fact there are none.

HTH.

Onnabugeisha · 22/12/2022 12:00

@FlirtsWithRhinos

No, I’m not looking for leaders as political resistance movements can be centralised or decentralised in terms of leadership. In fact, resistance movements usually are decentralised and do not have key leaders or a single leader. It’s usually when a country gets to full on revolution or a coup that key leaders or a single leader emerges.

RoseslnTheHospital · 22/12/2022 11:57

@FlirtsWithRhinos that is an excellent explanation, I had not previously considered the difference between a movement and resistance to it in that way.

Onnabugeisha · 22/12/2022 11:56

is not a political movement, it is a political resistance

Political resistance is a type of political movement. 🧐

@Onnabugeisha oh come on. Being critical of gender and the way it's used to damage and control women is pretty much central to any type of feminism you'd care to try to think of. Unless you think that feminism is A-OK with gendered stereotypes, gendered roles, gendered expectations, etc etc...??

GC in regards to transpeople is not universal to feminism, no.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 22/12/2022 11:53

I think there should be a politics talk topic, with GC under there as it is a political movement. 🤷‍♀️

Politics section on MN Talk....

Yes I posted a thread in there and tumbleweed. I just clicked on this link and it’s still at top of the board. It exists but very low use.

Most GC feminists prefer to post in feminism and actually threads get moved here often anyway

beastlyslumber · 22/12/2022 11:50

Onnabugeisha · 22/12/2022 10:22

Its no lie. You got the evidence already on earlier threads. You just refuse to believe anything that might tarnish KJK’s halo.

There is no evidence. It's very sad how jealous you are.

I think that’s your perception which of course you can have.

But as with all this there’s a tussle over meaning and words and as a GC feminist (or reality based feminism as someone called it the other day) it is integral to my thinking and who I am as a woman.

So I’m not willIng to accept your take and would hope that enough GC feminists say no thanks to name change too. We had the board split already which should leave those not interested with chat in any case.

Sure, we all get a say. I’m happy with majority view. I do think it odd though that MN has no politics talk topic at all. Especially since we do often discuss the actions of our Government and various political parties, movements and activists.

Zimtsterne · 22/12/2022 11:43

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 22/12/2022 10:51

and feminism chat is tumbleweed central a lot of the time. I do pop over there sometimes when I remember, but there's rarely much going on

Yes. After all that fuss and whining about being "shouted down" and "too scared to post". Funny, that Xmas Hmm

As a long-time lurker I remember that long thread in site stuff about how horrible F&WR was and how the meanies should be siloed off so the real feminists could talk. I thought at the time that was incredibly disingenuous / a lie, because I read threads here all the time and knew that "shouted down" just meant "disagreed with in a way I couldn't think of a response to".

Feminism is separate from GC. They’re both political movements, but they are not one and the same. Nor is GC a type of feminism imho.

Ive never said GC has nothing to do with womens rights just that it’s separate from feminism. The aligning with the right shows it is very political in nature.

The desperation to pretend it's got nothing to do with women's rights is palpable.

The clue is the number of women, women's rights activists, feminists and lesbians who are opposed to it.

Musk is a proven liar who called an innocent British man a paedophile and got way with it because ' Muh free speech as an American ' etc.

He thinks Anthony Fauci is a mass murderer. A sociopath - the kindest explanation.

But if , in the process of destroying the sewer , he buries the shit I'll be happy !

ResisterRex · 22/12/2022 11:18

Wanting to categorise GC as a political movement might be a case of "careful what you wish for".

Thread after thread I have asked about Peter tatchell and not one has acknowledged Tatchell. In fact, some ignore he was ever mentioned.

Poor old Tatchell.
