Lots of references to it in other threads so I thought I'd put the link here for people who want to see it:

You may all be aware of this already, but if you want to promote the documentary and fight back against the silencers then Reality Matters will send you pack of stickers and cards to place where you see fit for a pound.

Link here:Realitymatters

I just stuck one up in an Oxfam changing room, which was immensely satisfying.....Guerilla tactics....

Thank you! I like the stickering idea.

My point was that the phrase AHF has been reframed as not only the meaning of a word but also a slogan that is now very much associated with Posie.
I don't think my point was silly @Ereshkigalangcleg or @Shinyredbicycle however I think your lack of understanding of how marketing and slogans work is a bit clueless

You completely missed the point I made. I acknowledged that KJK had done the most to bring it into the mainstream, so not sure what your point is.

Toseland · 28/12/2022 23:57

I do think it was a bit of a mean snub to Posie, I think they have used her footage. But however we could do with a lot more 'adult human female' films. Looking forward to Posie's and other perhaps other groups versions.

Shinyredbicycle · 28/12/2022 23:23

The film isn't WPUK's. It was made by a tiny production company of two people called 'Reality Matters'.

The white on black is their branding.

WPUK hosted the first public viewing.

OneMorePlant · 28/12/2022 23:13

Regardless how you feel about Kellie-Jay Keen, it IS quite disrespectful from WPUK to name their documentary "adult human female" and use white lettering on a black background and not even mention or show Kellie-Jay.

Especially considering the smear campaign they have held against Kellie-Jay for years now which often felt more like a personal vendetta.

Her entire campaign is "Be the billboard" and it all started with black billboards with broad white letters " woman adult human female" and selling those black t-shirts. Though I am willing to bet KJK does not even mind. Unlike some she has her eye on the prize. She does not care for petty fights and it is one of the many reasons I love what she is doing.

Sure she does not have copy right on the definition of woman. But no matter how much some of the women who talk shit behind her back dislike it, when you see "adult human female" in bold white letters on black all you can think is Kellie-Jay Keen's billboard campaign and how amazing she is.

If they did it to ride the PR of her campaigns they should have at least acknowledged and thanked her. If it was to put a claim on it out of spite they shot themselves in the foot.

I think it's an ok documentary and it's good another is made. The more the merrier. Personally I like the one Karen Actually made by herself IN 2021 a tad more but I realise it's not to everyone's taste.

OneMorePlant · 28/12/2022 22:51

I also want to see a film about detransitioners. Can someone please fund that?

There is a Swedish documentary which sort of touches on it: The Trans Train

Shinyredbicycle · 28/12/2022 19:58

As I said earlier, Posie Parker used AHF because women involved in these debates and actions would know exactly what it meant.

Ten years ago, it wouldn't have had the same slogan power or marketing potential.

Sazzasez · 21/12/2022 18:51

I helped organise a showing of it.
23 women & 2 men turned up, at different levels of peaking or information. There were gasps, groans & at the end applause.

It was clearly done on a shoestring - self funded, and I’m glad I was able to chip in towards it.

I don’t know what the budget was but it was low because they’ve covered it & can afford to let it be shown for free.

They started work on it last spring, before KJK announced her documentary, btw. I’m looking forward to seeing that, too.

its just very good to see all those stories in one place.

I also want to see a film about detransitioners. Can someone please fund that?

Goodness knows there’s room for it.

Shinyredbicycle · 21/12/2022 12:27

Quite. There's nothing to 'retrieve' or 'reclaim'.

It was never taken away from all women, despite the best efforts of MRAs.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/12/2022 09:31

Is the general idea that the title Adult Human Female was used to remind people that this phrase was being used widely before Posie's billboard campaign? So its kind of retrieving ownership?

They can't "retrieve ownership", because it's literally the meaning of what a woman is. KJK doesn't own it but she promoted it to the mainstream more than anyone else. They don't own it either, and any claim to "take it back" from women they don't approve of is silly.

Shinyredbicycle · 21/12/2022 09:16

It was me that said that KJK merched and monetarised a phrase that feminists and other women had been using for years.

I also said that the ADH billboard campaign was excellent because it was the right thing at the right time.

If you want to believe that's belittling, reality-denying, telling KJK to STFU and making sarky comments about her hair, well, you do you as they say

I didn't use the term 'cashed in' because I don't think she has or that this was her motivation.

unwashedanddazed · "What's a real shame is that there's a group of women who constantly attach KJK's name to words like monetised merched and cash in. As if she's doing it to buy shoes or something."

This constant belittling, reality-denying refrain grates so fucking much!

KJK is producing THE most effective public awareness-raising campaigning materials available. Not just that but they are ethically-sourced and, where possible, made in the UK. She has been banned from every merch site so has to do everything in-house and waste time making sales-pitches on YouTube.

If it was anyone else "that group of women" would be praising her to the skies.

What the fuck is she supposed to do? Take out a second mortgage and give it all away?

Oh, I know, she should just STFU and leave it to the women who care so much about this issue that they spend an unhealthy amount of time obsessing about her and making snarky comments about her hair!

As for the AHF documentary, I don't think we are its intended audience. How much of it was news to anyone who has spent much time on Mumsnet Sex & Gender Board? The Premier and subsequent screenings will have relied on attendance by the converted but it is now free to view on the internet.

He now understands that it's heterosexual men with a fetish, that hard drives need checking and why don't people think it's suspicious that adults are encouraging children to take medications that they use on rapists for chemical castration. Why would adults want other adults to resemble children when their older?

There are plenty of other videos that are top peaking material and are better produced. However, it might be significant that both the above anecdotes refer to men who "got it" after watching AHF?

Even if not significant, there is a huge problem getting the message over to "the Left" and particularly men on the Left. The advantage of AHF featuring so many "names" from the Left is that it might pique the interest of others on the Left and be shared among Lefties who damn well need to "get it". It seemed a bit weird to me that there was just one token man but that is just another minor quibble.

It exists and, whatever its faults and odd branding, IMHO it would be as daft not to promote it as it is self-defeating to continually carp on about KJK's campaign materials as if she is in this just to sell T-shirts and has nothing better to do with her time.

What a good post. My position too.

Orangedoll · 21/12/2022 08:20

I hope this works.

FannyCann · 21/12/2022 08:20

Thanks OP. I lol forward to watching.

StrawberryFizz27 · 21/12/2022 07:24

That link isn't working and I can't see the film on YouTube.

FrancescaContini · 20/12/2022 08:27

Totally ignoring the arguments on this thread, I am really looking forward to watching this over the next few days. Thank you for the handy link.

Shinyredbicycle · 20/12/2022 08:21

FfacCoffi I know. The AHF billboard campaign was brilliant, the right thing at the right time in the push back against gender ideology.

Shinyredbicycle · 20/12/2022 08:13

For goodness sake, if posters don't want other posters to express their views about a particular topic, maybe don't bring said topic up on a thread where it's not relevant?

I can't see where anyone has said that KJK should STFU on this thread. What a strange thing to take from it.

Shinyredbicycle · 20/12/2022 03:24

I think you're right Lang.

I'm glad that the film makers who have been quietly involved in these debates for years (spoiler they're of the political left, hence why they made a film with, um, a political left emphasis) got the chance to produce this.

Bosky · 20/12/2022 03:08

unwashedanddazed · 18/12/2022 21:28

What's a real shame is that there's a group of women who constantly attach KJK's name to words like monetised merched and cash in. As if she's doing it to buy shoes or something.

She reaches the women outside of the academy and left-wing politics far more effectively than academia ever can. It takes a lot of different approaches to reach a lot of different people. Let other women do what they do best instead of tediously nit-picking.

People stick up for her because the spite is so nasty that it demands a response.

LangClegsInSpace · 18/12/2022 23:40

It's a good documentary except for the weird stock footage bits. I hope it's shared widely.

Some of the branding and marketing decisions have been very strange but nobody will care about that in the long run.

Shinyredbicycle · 18/12/2022 23:30

It was pretty convincing for my gay friend who hadn't really understood what all the fuss was about!

Simon Edge (obvs not a mother) spoke very movingly about the harm being done to children, I thought.

I was struck by how out-of-date (in a good way) the discussions about 'cis' seemed. Thank the fuck we've won that one.
