That’s so sensible, Samphire.

When push comes to shove we have to get incentive. But we did lose almost £90,000 whilst trying to work out how to evidence our 'amazing reach, ever widening skill sharing and incredible diversity'. Including the vacuous sentences with all the emotive words rather than actual evidence, facts and figures!

And no. The men's shelter has never been asked if they accept women. They are simply extraordinarily kind, brave and totes amazing!

nilsmousehammer · 13/12/2022 13:33

Well the male-centred women's resources are indignantly identifying as not being inaccessible and exclusionary to women.

But since that's obviously bollocks, the existence of this is a huge embarrassment to them. This proves what they are so desperately trying to gaslight everyone about: that women's services now don't work for women.

lifeturnsonadime · 13/12/2022 13:31

Gosh i had no idea of the link between Wadwha and the company winning the contracts from services losing funding for failing to include males.

That's shocking.

Or maybe they're scared women will realise that yes, actually they are allowed single sex rape support services under the EA exceptions and will expect RCS to provide them in other parts of Scotland?

I suspect you're probably right.

Link this too to the third space toilets/bathrooms/wards etc arguments.

There are always female women who are perfectly happy to be in a mixed sex space, and have no difficulty using those spaces.

There are activists however who don't want them. Their presence, being part of that group won't do. The target is always the non consenting women. The women who cannot share mixed sex spaces. The women who have boundaries not yet broken. Those are the women who must either submit or be punished, and why those women and being with them matters so much says a very good deal about a person who would view those women in such a way. As resources for them as opposed to real people, equally human.

And yes, apparently, there are some so fantastically selfcentred and without ability to care about others, that they would rather see females excluded and left without help than to experience a boundary on their personal sense of self.

Excluding women and leaving them with no help and is quite a bonus for some men.

Men going for those areas which are self evidently female only, like breastfeeding groups and miscarriage support, was framed as useful, because if you could conquer the extreme, all the rest would fall into place.

But from what I can tell, forcing their way into these areas gives them a massive kick, quite apart from the strategy involved.

There's no way the general public is going look at the unhinged tra kickback here and not see something highly creepy going on.

NitroNine · 13/12/2022 12:18

Someone claiming to be a gender non-conforming “cis” lesbian (using a picture of female journalist Sophie Corcoran as their profile picture 🤨) has been having a totally normal one; demanding to be told how they’re going to tell what sex someone is & being outraged harassing JKR leads to being blocked.

”I’ve got a genuine interest & I’m just asking questions!” Aye, right. Whole account is devoted to ranting about Teh Ebil TERFs; clearly no agenda 🙄

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 13/12/2022 12:11

The reason for all the tantrums is because this service separates biologically female women from biologically male people identifying as women.

Yes, the support humans have to be IN the colonized space for this to work. Their discomfort 'validates' the identity of others. If they all decamp and go to another sex-segregated space, it defeats the purpose the TRAs set out to coopt in the first place, and highlights the reasons as to why they reject the reasonable compromise of a third space.

When you demand to be Lord of the Sun and Moon, you're always going to risk being told to go back to your ditch .

FunnyTalks · 13/12/2022 12:09

Yes nilsmousehammer

Similar to the insistence on transwomen trying to date lesbians, rather than hetero or bi women. Hetero and bi women, who might reasonably fancy a male bodied transwoman, don't offer validation or the giving up of something unattainable.

(Interesting to note from other threads recently that there's no sexuality recognised for being a woman who fancies males of any gender ID. Just as gender atheism isn't recognised either.)

RoyalCorgi · 13/12/2022 11:01

There are loads of really nasty, batshit takes from TRAs. My favourite was the one that said if JKR really cared about women she'd have set up this service 20 years ago. The fact that she's only doing it now means she's setting it up purely as an act of spite towards trans women. These people are really beyond deranged.

I saw this on Twitter. This idiot really will reach at anything - cf. their protestation that they are a 'Cis' woman ...

Of course, the founding of this service had nothing whatsoever to do with her horror over the disgraceful treatment of Sarah by Brighton Rape Crisis, which shone a light onto the further indignity women had to suffer having already been the victims of a violent, invasive, horrible crime.

Women should get over it. Women should reframe our trauma. Women should get control of our completely involuntary trauma responses - wholly the result of sexual crime against us by men and which are not controllable - when faced with males in a vulnerable situation.

And of course JKR went to all the trouble of funding and founding a crisis service for women with the sole objective of persecuting trans people. She's sure investing a lot in this vendetta if so. In any case this issue is not about trans women to start with and the service IS for FTM trans and non-binary people.

Having foisted the trauma onto us in the first place, males are now trying to tell us how we should respond to it. No wonder increasing numbers of us have had enough. And if rape victims are not sacrosanct there are no depths to which these activists won't sink.

I read the website FAQ - trans women and males will be sign posted to other services where they can get help. So they won't just refuse to do anything they'll probably refer to rape crisis Scotland anyway who does include them. So no problem surely?

Let's be honest about this.

The reason for all the tantrums is because this service separates biologically female women from biologically male people identifying as women.

Its existence jars the belief of total transition. If female people are allowed anything, any word, any identity, any space, that a male person can't identify into, it places a boundary on the degree of transition. There is something only female women have. There is something that isn't owned, controlled, assimilated. It's mere existence is an insult.

And yes, apparently, there are some so fantastically selfcentred and without ability to care about others, that they would rather see females excluded and left without help than to experience a boundary on their personal sense of self.

This is the crux of it. The only way this will ever work is if male people can manage to respect female people and allow them to have their needs and equality and access too and manage to respect other people's needs, as opposed to 'until the provision for other people is destroyed totally, I can't be happy and collateral damage to females in the service of me is ok'.

Otherwise the GRA will have to go.

'Reframe your trauma' was apparently good enough for women. Now that IS hateful, discriminatory misogyny. Strange that there wasn't a murmur about that.

“Does it offer services to trans women who have suffered male violence?” one person asked on Twitter. “If so… Rowling admits trans women are women. If not… she’s discriminating and can be sued.”

BRING. IT. ON.

TheGreatATuin · 13/12/2022 10:19

With regards the claim that there have been no incidents, that's because any woman who speaks about an incident is immediately labeled a terf and her testimony ignored.

Woke idiots: this never happens
Woman: this incident happened
Woke idiots: only a terf would say that so it's not true. This never happens.
Another woman: this incident happened to me too
Woke idiots: only a terf would say that so it's not true. This never happens.
Repeat ad infinitum.

Officials at Rape Crisis Scotland have called on JK Rowling to open her new women’s refuge to trans and non-binary people

Officials at Rape Crisis Scotland said what? Are they mad?

The whole point of this is to provide somewhere to meet the unmet need of females needing female only care.

They've got the mixed sex/male focused care covered.

But they can. Transmen and nb females. Everyone always seems to forget about them and the default position when speaking about trans people is TW. I wonder what the difference could possibly be? 🙄

Sophoclesthefox · 13/12/2022 09:59

Yes. Although as Samphire describes above, it's not quite that simple or straightforward; services have been forced to accommodate males at risk of losing funding.

SamphiretheTervosaurReturneth · 13/12/2022 09:01

That's the mealy mouthed resolution we came to.

We lost funding because we are not diverse enough - a woman's shelter that takes all women in need. No men so no funding from that well know national funding stream for a couple of years. We were charity non grata and couldn't get a detailed response from them. We pondered that and then, because we were already mentoring a group setting up a men's shelter, we used that to get some funding back. And we refer to a mixed sex group, some of our counsellors chose to do some work there too. We use that to show how diversely we support men, transmen and transwomen - we (as a whole) pay, we refer, we train, we volunteer and we work paid for hours.

We have a robust explanation for maintaining our single sex policy - trans individuals require specific counselling and referral to specific services because they are trans. We offer support to any members of staff who want to add this to their skill set/knowledge.

That's it. No more compromises. And our female centre stays female only.

We have had many discussions over the last couple of years about Sarah's case, and many other batshit things happening in the sector. We hope we are too small to be noticed, though we did have to fend off one challenge last year!

That amounted to:
TW: Let me in
Us: No.
TW: LET ME IN
Us: No, but we will give you a lift to XX
TW: Oh, OK then!

Hopefully that will be it!

Great work samphire!!

Birdsweepsin · 12/12/2022 21:58

Oh, a new bad-faith take on Twitteroo: but what about an abuses mother who has at least one child who is a boy? Is she not welcome?

Yeah, if he is under 16. Surely.

In a refuge? yes. Some do, some don't, it depends on the age of the boy. We have a separate 'dorm' for mixed families with older kids/teens. It runs very much separately to our resolutely single sex refuge, which only houses boys of 10 or under (don't ask, arbitrary age, justified by it being prior to starting secondary school). We try very hard not to turn anyone away.

Many small indy spaces have similar P+Ps. We build them as we go!

SamphiretheTervosaurReturneth · 13/12/2022 09:01

Dotellhimpike · 12/12/2022 20:49

If it styles itself as a referral service then all it has to do is put a trans identifying man in touch with one of the many other places that will provide the help they need, no?

That's the mealy mouthed resolution we came to.

@Sazzasez
Do they fear that too many support humans (aka women) will decamp to the enemy leaving their preferred clients invalidated?
Or do they secretly realise that a lot of women have self excluded from their services & are afraid to find out just how many?

I think you need to replace your Or with an And
Whats worse for them is if the general public realise that a lot of women have self excluded from their services. Questions will get asked....

SmartWatch · 13/12/2022 07:41

Good point well made!

Honestly, twitter is a joy to behold at the moment. The TRAs are getting their arses handed to them left, right and centre over this.

Imagine being such a narcissist that you object to something being setup to help women that have been raped because it doesn't apply to you? Imagine being jealous that that hideous thing hasn't happened to you?
