He was a narcissistic, sexist, manipulative gap (anagram) and locals and neighbours and Elizabeth's friends knew it. I don't know how the family bore it, seeing him lionised in the press, knowing what he was really like.

Whoa nelly, I've only skimmed this and it doesn't pull any punches. Wish I could show it to my beee kiind friends who think Jan Morris was a kindly old lady who represents the 'true trans'.
