This is an experimental thread, all input much appreciated!

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

Right, bring on the flames or flowers! <cowers>

That's excellent. It's good to hear what people actually think, when anyone bothers to ask.

bignosebignose · 18/12/2022 11:15

Terftastic Observer article today , there's a thread about it. Two polls out this week show the Scottish public are really not on board with the stuff being pushed through their parliament next week....

Reflecting generally on news and developments this week, I'm feeling quite gloomy and not just about female rights. It seems that in these turbulent times, people are retreating away from reality and into the comfortable fog of superstitious platitudes.

It's the closest thing to a religion I've seen emerge in my lifetime. What are we - a couple of hundred years from the Enlightenment? It seems to have infected every part of public life.

I get gloomy too. But not all the time, Kuc! And nor do you - your sprightly, energetic posts at another place have cheered many a day. :)

This is of interest from 4w, covering multiple allegations against a male student in Brazil.

The twitter thread from the disabled woman is powerful and the tweet in response is coming to seem unsuprising from those who want women right's out of the picture.

SinnerBoy · 17/12/2022 14:29

I just don't know how to address those inexcusable, vile comments. A nasty bully, who gets off on the shock value, I suppose.

That poor woman. You wouldn't think it was too much to ask, would you? Massive kudos to her for putting it out there, though.

Tricyrtis2022 · 17/12/2022 12:55

@Kucingsparkles, that twitter thread is heartbreaking.

Tricyrtis2022 · 17/12/2022 12:49

I think I am now ready to declare that I am officially in love with JKR.

So am I, she's brilliant 😍

Kucingsparkles · 17/12/2022 12:41

This disabled woman explains why she needs same-sex carers, a detailed and brave thread:

Really? Thanks, Cyan. You'd think the incels would have been all over that! 😁

But really, it's pernicious.

Obvious question, but has the dictionary definition of 'man' been tweaked to include transman? I must have missed that headline.

It has #mentoo

I’ve just added the link to today’s article to that thread as well as couldn’t see it on there.

DameMaud · 17/12/2022 10:53

This is a fascinating discussion with Leor Sapir (political scientist who wrote his dissertation on the Obama administration's Title IX regulations). He explains how the US court system works on this issue, although the conversation ranges widely.
It's a great podcast anyway. Highly recommend if you've not come across it.

Some excellent comments below.

And thread here, with a confusing title thanks to 'drop' being used in its less obvious meaning.

I f***g despair of supposedly highly trained legal minds.

SinnerBoy · 17/12/2022 09:52

Ah, I'm sure you're right, Kuc.

Kucingsparkles · 17/12/2022 09:48

I thought that they were supposed to assess the evidence?

Presumably there is "evidence" along the lines of the evidence for the Garden of Eden, Noah's flood and dinosaurs as vehicles for the Flintstones. Y'know, Righteous Evidence.

The court rejected claims that equal participation of transgender girls took opportunities from cisgender girls.

Really? I thought that they were supposed to assess the evidence?

Goodbye, Title IX. twitter.com/ACLU/status/1603798370975465484?

At least the comments skew towards the side of sanity.
