It’s an LBC article I saw on Apple News.

“Some 7.1 million people were on the waiting list in October, with 400,000 waiting for more than a year. Mr Brown said he understood that his group’s demands could seem outrageous in this context.”

Here are my considered thoughts on the matter

Whatsnewpussyhat · 03/12/2022 15:25

We already know that for many, if not all of, these teenage girls that it's a form of self harm and control in response to physical or emotional trauma.

Their poor mental health is a symptom of this, not a symptom of them somehow supposedly being a man, because that is a fictional nonsense. A form of self protection. Not something that should be encouraged and agreed with.

The support should be there to help them deal with the reasons behind their dysphoria, not to help them cause permanent damage to their perfectly healthy bodies because of it.

The fact that we already know 80%+ grow out of their dysphoria when their bodies and brains mature, the affirmation model seems ridiculously counterintuitive anyway. To push all these kids onto a medical pathway on the basis gender ideology is absurd.

When I think of the hoops women have to jump through to get basic healthcare, HRT, to be able to have breast reductions when they are in pain every day… well it’s just pathetic.

Yep. It is totally pathetic. Endometriosis is agony and can cause infertility. Lack of HRT and access to breast reductions. Thats before you even get onto repairing birth injuries or IVF

Slight tangent - the high complication rate (80%) has been mentioned, complications including hand disability and urinary incontinence.

But what is the result if the op is 'successful'? Any photos I've seen, it doesn't look like a penis. It's not as if it's capable of erection without mechanical help - is it capable of sensation? What counts as 'success' to the surgeon and the patient?

Being able to pee standing up i guess.

Although YouTube has several transmen who have documented their repeated failures at the whole " voiding test"

All this, the scaring , infections, disabilities to maybe have a rod installed so they can pump it up amd have sex pretty sensationless sex. And to pee standing up 🙄

@RedToothBrush - I think so many people are talking about it because so many schools are pushing it and so many of people's children are identifying as trans or non-binary. It's everywhere.

I hope this is all a distant nightmare in 5 years time. Too many children have been damaged already. I just want it to stop.

Well that is indeed a motivation that would fit with the demand isn't it?

Definitely!
follow the money .....it's all about the financial gain isn't it!
They are just making hay while the sun is still shining, got to get those phalloplasties done by any means possible and then we can sit back as the profits flow into our bank accounts, it's a job creation scheme for the therapists and the medics and the pharmaceutical companies who will clean up all the mess

RedToothBrush · 03/12/2022 12:31

Soothsayer1 · 03/12/2022 12:20

The more they can convert ahead of that, the most who are trapped by it
You mean they are doing all they can to ensure a revenue stream going forward, people requiring therapy, surgery medication etc which will have to be paid for privately to deal with the issues caused?

Dh has been talking with friends since the announcement from the CC yesterday.

The subject of medicalising kids came up out of the blue (much to his surprise). The discussion went along the lines of its happening too young and too early and one of these guys (was all blokes) was saying he'd seen a number of kids transition early as teenagers only to desist when they hit their early 20s.

When people not engrossed in this subject are starting to notice detransitioning I think you have to ask questions.

I have to say, part of me feels this sudden push to medicalise by any means as quickly as possible, is about a feeling of trying to get as many people trans as quickly as possible before the jigs up on the whole con. The more they can convert ahead of that, the most who are trapped by it.

The raising of the subject stunned DH because he's fully aware of the shit because I'm up on it, but he's now hearing adults who have roles with safeguarding responsibilities openly saying this to each other in a way he's not heard before. What's more is there was a consensus within the group and no fear about voicing the opinion.

They also talked about the inappropriateness of drag acts performing to kids.

Its unravelling.

It should be reviewed by NICE because I cannot believe it is ethically or financially justified given the huge complication rates.

NICE is signed up to Stonewall. I gather they include the SW suicide stats in some of their EDI and health equalities training.

How long before people start identifying as a different species and then demanding surgery for it?
I identify as a killer whale and I really need the surgery for my mental health plus very large swimming pool to live in
🐳

Well thats kinda been done already hasn't it . There was that cat guy.

The suggestion of sending people needing hip replacements abroad is just ridiculous.

Does this person have any idea of the average hip patients pre and post op mobility and how long they’d have to spend abroad in recovery, away from friends and family before being certified as fit to fly? And where are the extra NHS physiotherapists going to come from to help all the newly foreign hip replaced people walk again?

The most common age for an NHS hip replacement is between 75 and 79

www.statista.com/statistics/1099120/hip-replacements-in-england-by-age-and-gender/

and this NHS page suggests that needing help at home for 6 weeks can be arranged if you don’t have family support.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/hip-replacement/recovery/

a quick Google suggests that most airlines and travel insurers say that you should not fly within 6 - 12 weeks of the surgery dependent on age and other risks for DVT.

But some transactivist flippantly suggests that we should just send elderly people abroad to cut orthopaedic surgical waiting lists and we’re supposed to take what they say seriously about other types of surgery?

This person isn’t living in the real world.

7 million ? That can’t be right. There are only Thirty million adult females in the UK, and if you say that at least two million will be over sixty and therefore unlikely to be caught up in this, that would mean that one In four British adult women are yearning for a stick on penis.

Do we hazard think that this spokesperson may not be too good at counting? (I’m tempted to make a joke about where they keep their brains, but that would be flippant )

I was thinking this very thought. 7 million ?

Justme56 · 03/12/2022 10:57

It’s written badly but I think they mean 7 million people are on waiting lists for any form of NHS treatment.

That's the total number of people on the NHS waiting list, that's the context for this unreasonable demand.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/12/2022 10:53

What are the wait times for youngsters needing mental health services?
Spend that money, and then some, on CAMHS.

Waiting lists for a phalloplasty in the UK - offered to trans men so their bodies can better match their gender identity - can be up to four years, and activists say this can be very bad for people's mental health.

"Just because it's not physical pain doesn't mean it's not pain. When people are struggling with dysphoria they can struggle to even leave the house."

They need their bodies to 'match' their gender identities, but nobody can ever explain what sort of body 'matches' with what sort of gender identity.

They need radical, expensive surgery to help their mental health, but at the same time we keep being told it's not a mental health condition.

Whatwouldscullydo · 03/12/2022 10:36

Tell taxpayers to fork out for surgery to treat a mental condition generated by activists, resulting in a notoriously unsuccessful outcome requiring multiple corrections and a slew of lifelong side effects

I dont think they would actually even mentally cope even if they did get the chance at a quicker /instant surgery.

A large chunk of the whole identity is the victim hood. The long waiting lists and the perceived issues with availability of treatment etc are all part of it. The surgery isn't some miracle end. Look at JJ. The energy simply went into raising money fir friends to have the surgeries and more activism.

You cant just stop after spending significant parts of your life fighting and arguing and blaming the " system" for all your issues.

It would literally solve nothing because the victim hood is the identity

Managinggenzoclock · 03/12/2022 10:33

I’m biased since I don’t think these operations should be happening at all except in rare circumstances on adults who have tried all forms of mental health intervention. But it’s flipping insulting when you have relatives at literal risk of death due to waiting for cancer/heart operations. I would be livid.

Datun · 03/12/2022 10:30

Absolutely. And another zillion to blind people with body dysmorphia, or amputate their limbs and create disabilities needing lifelong medication.

These people are off the wall batshit.

Tell taxpayers to fork out for surgery to treat a mental condition generated by activists, resulting in a notoriously unsuccessful outcome requiring multiple corrections and a slew of lifelong side effects.

Because homophobia and sexism.
