As with the Tavistock, anyone who questioned, hesitated or raised issues, would have been hounded out as 'transphobic'.

I do wonder if this is what's happened. Over the years of purity-spiralling, they've shed everyone with any organisational competence or sense of responsibility, in favour of ideological fervency. Everybody still in MM is a fanatical loon or a creepy piece of work looking to exploit the vulnerable. (A bit like BoJo's expunging from the Tory Party of moderate, experienced politicians who didn't have sufficient blind enthusiasm for Brexit).

nilsmousehammer · 26/11/2022 17:12

The irony of creating a 'safe space' for service operators that ensured absolute loss of safety in terms of safeguarding service users....

I don't think we can discount the idea that internally Mermaids may be chaotic and badly run with numerous HR issues that were an issue for even the ideologically signed up employees and board members.

Undoubtedly Mermaids main issue is one of safeguarding but it may also have been a poor workplace as well. Publicly those who have left may still support their cause but who knows why they left? They do seem to have had a retention problem in the last few years.

Not least because I find it hard to imagine worse failures of safeguarding than those already brought to light, to be honest.

I know what you mean, but every time I think I can't be shocked any more, something invariably happens that proves me wrong.

MrsJamin · 26/11/2022 16:03

According to SG's personal Instagram account, she was on holiday from 10-22 November (perhaps even longer). Not sure if that's relevant but it seems odd that in such a turbulent time at Mermaids, she was on annual leave? Unless she was using up AL before leaving Mermaids?

I too think she's off to the USA, unless she goes to jail. There's definitely more news to come, though.

I predict that if she does go to the USA then KJK will go after her there in a big way.
She'll call her out everywhere she can.

WarriorN · 26/11/2022 17:09

His point is you need to have a culture where challenging authority within an organisation can be done through multiple channels so there is accountability. If the CEO and safeguarding lead are two different people you always have two routes of accountability. Basic checks and balances principles. If you only have one then you get more of a dictator effect. It makes the whole organisation more vulnerable to safeguarding issues

This is basic safeguarding in schools, or should be.

I always forget the name techical name of this specific type of safeguarding but the nspcc to include it on their website.

Should schools have a policy around culture.

When Ofsted visited use recently they threw in a random q for a teacher around who they'd go to if they had safeguarding concerns about the head.

Luckily we've been well versed and all know: governor dsl.

ArabellaScott · 26/11/2022 17:08

Here we are. Both seem to be professionals with relevant experience.

ArabellaScott · 26/11/2022 17:06

Sorry, Bore, cross posted. I had foudn the details of two women who were SOs at Mermaids. It might even be on a thread here, somewhere.

DaughterOfPsychiatrist · 26/11/2022 17:06

Susie has three other children (Jackie is the oldest) and a mother in Leeds, so I’m not sure a job in the US would be that appealing? Perhaps as a last resort, but definitely not a planned career trajectory.

ArabellaScott · 26/11/2022 17:05

I don't think Susie Green was the SO, at least not latterly. There were two other women who had that role.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/11/2022 17:03

@RedToothBrush
I don't think Green was the actual designated Safeguarding Lead - website says this
4.3 It is the overall responsibility of the CEO, Susie Green, on behalf of the Safeguarding Lead to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to safeguard children.

I did attempt to ring MM for clarity but recorded message says lines are currently closed.

Role at WPATH?

If she was “on holiday” recently, it’s possible she may have been put on gardening leave while the Board discussed her future. That would make sense in terms of her leaving so soon after said “holiday”.

Very possible.

Or- she took a holiday, and while someone else was covering for her, something truly dreadful came to light that she wasn’t there to manage or deflect.

It’s the most common way people who are up to something get caught out, it’s why some companies, particularly financial service companies mandate two consecutive weeks leave each year for people in certain roles. Some wrong doing doesn’t survive the perpetrator taking a holiday, because their cover brings it to light.

I’m speculating. Not least because I find it hard to imagine worse failures of safeguarding than those already brought to light, to be honest.

How stupid do they think we are?

Stupid enough to think that a bloke with a penis and testicles and a beard is a woman because he says he is?

BordoisAgain · 26/11/2022 16:55

WhiteFire · 26/11/2022 13:37

I'm shocked too. I mean we have always been told that Mermaids are wonderful.

Come on defenders, step up.

I'm sure they'll be here as soon as its figured out how this can be spun as this being a good thing actually and the nasty terfs have lost again.

BellaAmorosa · 26/11/2022 16:46

Balanciaga are just trying to muddy the waters and dilute their responsibility. Which is total.

BellaAmorosa · 26/11/2022 16:44

CaveMum · 26/11/2022 15:40

As the Balenziaga case was being discussed before, I see they’re now trying to sue the ad agency involved.

Not entirely sure that such a campaign could have been planned, paid for and released without the client’s approval though 🤔

Hard to see it not going that way at this point.

Worth noting Belinda Bell has been trustee since 2019 so during most of the scandal period. And she's the one who put out the statement. All the others are 2021 or later. It's had an unusually high turn out of trustees.

That in itself begs questions.

nilsmousehammer · 26/11/2022 16:26

There are those on Twitter who are really not very well at all, and I'm not commenting there, however I will say to link these kind of tweets and attitudes to what Red's DH describes above.

Mermaids' 5th safeguarding disaster is that they frame standard, normal, every day safeguarding concerns - that most organisations working with children would be aghast to be responsible for and frantically addressing - as 'transphobia' and persecution.

They have been key in framing the idea that TQ+ involvement renders a situation untouchable, above standards and norms, and that to attempt to hold them to standards or to even talk about the situation as a failure or concern is transphobic . They hadn't even read the Cass report. Silly nonsense that 'doesn't understand'.

They have been key in framing the whole sex positive agenda connected with DQST, and the idea that TQ+ children are different, and that safeguarding is silly pearl clutching that is old hat now anyway. Hence their interesting choice of trustee, which would have been done with eyes wide open thinking how very progressive, modern and right he was.

The safeguarding disasters are not hapless accidents, they are rooted in the values and beliefs of the ideology. Hence now that more vulnerable TQ+ people see any boundary, challenge or consequence as justified cause for 'hate'.

This is going to eventually need an inquiry because the damage done is immense. It is going to take years to fix the damage that has insinuated itself everywhere because of this agenda.

WhiteFire · 26/11/2022 16:25

The feeling [may well be] mutual.

DuckDuckNo · 26/11/2022 16:21

Well at some level it must be JK Rowling's fault

Not caught up with the thread yet but wondering if anyone has seen comment from those virtue signaling allies <cough> Emma Watson <cough> who were so quick to condemn women who tried to talk about the dangers and lack of safeguarding around this ideology.

I've seen this comment from IW stating the hate against us. Not even trying to hide it anymore.

This is so sad. The propaganda campaign that has been waged against Susie and Mermaids these last few years is a disgrace. State harassment. They won’t be happy until trans have nothing.
I hate them.

I wonder if Green has left with a negotiated settlement? The terse wording of the Mermaids statement makes me think it was not a resignation, and this would protect Mermaids against employment claims from Green and leave her with a lump sum payoff and a gagging clause.

Not sure they would have the amount of funds available for a worthwhile pay off though?
