^As a result, women could have a higher hill to climb to score a win.
In the long-term, it's not hard to imagine the outrage if a decision like this led to a repeated loss of recognition for worthy winners, particularly women.^

who gets walked all over

I read that as "who gets wanked over" and then realised the worst thing is that it still works to make your point.

On your main point, I think it hits us as we age because it takes time for the cumulative drag between our lives and our male peers to result in noticeable differences in outcome. Like compound interest.

nilsmousehammer · 26/11/2022 09:59

Sigh. And got that the wrong way around.

The rage is starting to make my brain bleed out of my ears.

@tilder
Yes. This is a big problem.

Exactly.

In fact females have been gently steered to believe they have everything, it's all fine now and naice girls wouldn't put themselves first, or talk about their needs. Selfish. The kind of thing hairy legged feminazis do, and Nobody Likes Them, Do They?

Which is the sexist view of women as everyone's mum and the servants of the human race that the equality movement was about overturning!

Endless wittering about how sex doesn't exist, and no one knows what sex anyone is, and are you a biologist? And there's not just two sexes - while at the same time showing absolutely rigid binary thinking in who benefits and gains, and who gets walked all over and punished for the crime of being born with XY chromosomes. Primarily because them existing pisses XX people off.

ethelredonagoodday · 26/11/2022 09:05

And @SirSamVimesCityWatch also nails it.

ethelredonagoodday · 26/11/2022 09:04

I think @tilder has it spot on.

@tilder
Yes. This is a big problem.

It's not surprising to be honest. A lot of us are naive and idealistic. We're taught at school that we're equal. That there is legislation to stop women being discriminated against.

Then you get your nose rubbed in it.

BellaAmorosa · 25/11/2022 17:31

tilder · 25/11/2022 16:45

Maybe they believe that we have achieved equality and women are no longer disadvantaged compared to men?

I thought this until my 20s. I didn't notice the stealth sexism. It wasn't until something obvious was directed at me that the penny dropped.

@tilder
Yes. This is a big problem.

I think it's how to say you want to cast a bunch of middle class private school educated kids without saying you want to cast a bunch of middle class private school educated kids.

Ah, of course, yes!!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 25/11/2022 17:22

EC is currently young and beautiful. EC therefore has lots of acting roles available for which EC could be nominated.

As EC ages, EC will notice these roles becoming fewer and fewer. EC may notice the same is not occuring for EC's male contemporaries. EC will find that said male actors will be getting all the nominations and EC is not. I wonder if EC will be able to join the dots at that point.

Gender neutral in my experience always favours the men/boys. They scrapped head boy and head girl at my DC's school in favour of head pupil and wouldn't you know, since then it has always been a male head pupil. DD was elected deputy head pupil. In previous years she would have been head girl. She was gutted, so was I. I did eventually write to the head, but I was worried it might come over as sour grapes. A pisser to see talented ambitious young girls passed over and the younger ones missing out on a role model. Sends them a crap message.

No, it's the role of Sherlock. Who, if you read the piece is the biological father of Sherlock's daughter (no shit ...Grin) with standard male pronouns.

Ain't gender fluidity a wonderful thing!

It’s HERLOCK Holmes!

Does they not understand the history of some female categories? Does they not understand that when categories were open in some areas, everything went to the men? Does they not care or is they so arrogant that they does not need to listen to anyone or anything else to know exactly how the world should be run? They comes across as not very bright.

OMG. I'm seeing you as Bridget Jones at the smug married dinner party only it's a smug special identity dinner party. And probably no chance of a romantic interest telling you they like you just the way you are. GinWineGin

Precisely that (And I WAS the only single one there!)

ShamedBySiri · 25/11/2022 15:50

TheMarzipanDildo · 25/11/2022 13:53

I was recently at a dinner party where 50% of the guests (all female) were NB. I wanted to know what they thought made them different to me (I didn’t actually ask, because I don’t have a social death wish)

Do they think I’ve got a special lady brain?

Really rate Emma Corrin as an actor, but from interviews and their social media I find them as a person beyond irritating.

JellySaurus · 25/11/2022 15:46

Does they not care

Yup.

is they so arrogant that they does not need to listen to anyone or anything else to know exactly how the world should be run?

Yup.

They're busy re discovering and then re inventing every single wheel from scratch, in the fond belief of superior knowledge and that old people and old history has nothing to tell them.

Hopefully at some point they'll have rubbed all the awkward corners off their current models and arrive at one which actually works within the laws koi science. (Hint kids - try 'two sexes, no gender stereotypes/roles')

Meanwhile Eddie Izzard appears to have landed the role of Sherlock's daughter.
Who knows whether this will be in girl mode or boy mode or even adult mode 🤷‍♀️

The fantastic arrogance of this political movement.

😂😂

Each character was named and described briefly, then denoted as above.

Normally characters are named, then described as female / male with an age range.

I'd love to know the criteria for "male / female presenting" if the actor is in fact female / male.

Would convince anyone at any distance? Might pass if the lighting director goes for "murky" and they don't have to say too much?

BellaAmorosa · 25/11/2022 14:13

I could have died of boredom and cringe, reading Corrin's words. You're female, nobody has to make special categories for you.
Good on Adele for saying she missed being called a female artist.

The entertainment business is very different for men and women. Many more girls than boys apply to drama school or become actors by other routes, there are many more parts for males than for females and most lead parts are for men. The quality of all parts for males and the amount they say is greater than for females. So men get more opportunities, better opportunities to shine and less competition to land parts. Plus society values men higher than women. Of course gender neutral awards will be unfair.

BellaAmorosa · 25/11/2022 14:03

Chersfrozenface · 25/11/2022 08:30

I've recently seen a casting call for a production somewhere obscure in London where the requirements, for the entire cast, were for "non binary female presenting" and "non binary male presenting" actors.

😂😂

Maybe the next James Bond could be a NB female

'My name is Bond, James Bond. My pronouns are they/them.'
