How can you be trans and non binary?

I noticed today a post from Indya Moore on Instagram about being trans (I had no idea they were trans just follow as I thought they were v beautiful/ enjoy their pics)

Indya described hormone therapy as 'gender affirming for them ' - no mention of sex/ surgery.
But they describe themselves as trans & non binary.

I don't quite understand why you'd need to 'transition genders' if you don't have a gender ? Am I being thick?

I wouldn’t try to understand it. This is coming from someone who believes a penis is biologically female www.pinknews.co.uk/2019/02/19/pose-indya-moore-trans-penises-biologically-female/

Non-binary is basically a third category, and is used as a way to ‘illustrate’ gender being a spectrum. I remember when the community used to call it genderq*eer, like 10-15 years ago. You don’t feel either man or woman, you’re…something else.

There’s a number of people who ID that way, who follow traditional paths of transition, to a certain point. They may take hormones or elect for surgery, or…nothing at all.

Non-binary means upholding the Binary which relies on the very stereotypes I was fighting against 20 years ago in university, but which have returned in order to define people according to the cult of Gender Identity.

I saw a TikTok the other day by someone who described themselves as trigender - because they (I think they were a biological woman but don't like to presume) don't feel male, female or non binary but rather all three at once. I don't feel male, female or non binary either, I just am a woman/female because that's what I biologically am. In my opinion it isn't really something you feel, it's just something you are. To call yourself trigender seems to be nothing other than attention seeking.

Jess Bradley, the first NUS Trans Officer and government advisor, whose term was cut short by accidentally photographing their penis with their desk at work and posting it on a Tumblr blog, along with many photographs sent in by young men, identified as a non binary transwoman.

So yes it is a thing.

Here is Jess's piece de resistance, in the Manchester SU's version of the Vaginal Monologues.

YOU GO AWAY FROM BEIN WHAT YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE TO WHAT YOU ACTUALLY REALLY TRULY ARE WHEN YOU REALISE YOUR INNER SELF FEELS DEEP DOWN LIKE WHIT YOU ACTUALLY THOUGHT IT WISNAE BUT ACTUALLY IS.

trans relies on the binary because without it there would be no need to transition and there seems to be only the binary choice.

Thank you @NoFlowersForEmily you explained what I was trying to get at in better words.

You're not thick, but you are trying to make sense out of a wholly nonsensical ideology.
None of it makes sense.
None of it, don't waste you're time or brain power trying to understand how some people are trans because their innate gender (what is this? Nobody can tell us without resorting to sexist stereotypes) doesn't match their sex even tho they really are that sex and always have been, compared to some people who have no gender or can change gender by the day or be no gender at all while implying that to mean sex when we all have a sex and gender still means sexist stereotypes.
I read a good article about non binary women, it basically boils down to 'im not like those other girls'.
Maybe someone will share it..
But no I have no idea how you can be trans and non binary, trans relies on the binary because without it there would be no need to transition and there seems to be only the binary choice.
Non binary is basically a crock of shit and literally every human on earth is non binary in the sense that nobody conforms fully to masculine or feminine stereotypes.
My brain is fried even typing that out, I've no idea how these people live productive healthy lives in between all the navel gazing, sadly I doubt very many of them do.
Very tedious to be around I'm sure.

Surely hormones can only affect gender if you believe that gender is linked to the sexed body rather than an individual aspect of the soul that is nothing to do with biological sex?

Op I think non-binary is one of the hundreds of genders, that includes man and woman and many more, yet simultaneously isn't rooted in biological sex because man doesn't mean male and woman doesn't mean female.

From what I can gather, many people who call themselves non-binary seem to consider that as a different gender category rather than a lack of gender. And since they consider non-binary as a different gender category from male, this Indya has apparently transitioned from male to non-binary.
