It's done really well on Broadway and it's going to do really well in London despite some grumpy nb grumping and frumping about it, the reality is that most people watching pantos and musicals find a man in a dress comedic.

Can Robin Williams be 'transed' as he's dead? If some of the special-people-who-know say he was, then it will be true

Mrs. Doubtfire was probably her true self, and when she couldn’t live full time as that true self, well….

we all know what happens when trans people aren’t allowed to live their authentic lives*

*even though there’s absolutely no evidence.

MagpiePi · 17/11/2022 21:51

Can Robin Williams be 'transed' as he's dead? If some of the special-people-who-know say he was, then it will be true.

But I don't know if that is better or not. Its late and I can't get my head round the convoluted logic that it might conjure up.

PermanentTemporary · 17/11/2022 20:42

Hard to go into bat for Mrs Doubtfire when I thought the film was unbelievably terrible... but the crash of egos landing on a really stupid bandwagon can be heard for hundreds of miles. Somebody must have been really high to start complaining about the political implications of a dumb film retread musical. What idiots.

Musomama1 · 17/11/2022 20:35

Yep, perhaps one day the film Mrs Doubtfire will have one if those pre warnings like old films do on the Disney Channel of being insensitive to certain communities.

Pfffft. I just don't know where to begin or where to end on this one.

"From the big hearted makers of NANNY BINARY, prepare to laugh, cry, weep, sing, dance and cut your hair. "NONS ON THE RUN" will take you into the heart of suburban life where you see "Alex" run to the bus stop with their friend "Alix" to catch their bus to get to drama school. A heartwarming Christmas favourite sure to become a big hit."

😂😂😂😂 back at ya!

WandaWomblesaurus · 17/11/2022 15:16

Their humour seems to revolve around jokes about being non binary whilst policing everyone else's language around non binary.

Surely there's been a "takedown" of Some Like It Hot?

One of the greatest comedies ever made? Are these people completely and grimly humourless?

No pigs in blankets because of penises.

No Harry Potter marathon.

No pork stuffing because it's shaming peoples kinks.

No cranberry sauce because of colonialism and problematic associations with America and thanksgiving and Trump.

Omg this is hilarious! Pork stuffing was my favourite 😂

"I loved the song on the bus where Alex and Alix compare their gender neutral pleather shoes."

Not someone you want to spend Xmas watching films with. Imagine their response when watching anything or eating anything.

You'd be unwittingly microaggressing them even as they unwrap their presents because they would be offended by the paper if it has robins on because Robin can be a gender neutral name and also by Christmas itself because Christ is wearing a long white and blue gown and has long silky hair and is mocking the sacred soul of a TW by looking like he washes his hair with herbal essences.

I hope they don't buy a turkey with giblets.

@SudocremOnEverything I know. My point isn't about that. It's about logic Meg is using and the glaring hole in Meg's argument. If x, then y is true, then .....

I’m convinced that there is no coherent position. It’s a bunch of people who actually are professionally offended. They basically seek out opportunities to be publicly offended and to cancel things on that basis. The position shifts to whatever allows them to be most outraged on twitter.

DameMaud · 17/11/2022 11:19

'Nons on the Run'?

I've got it.

Nuns on the run?

men dressed up as women and Scots accents!

there’s a whole world of films out there to be offended by.

Ohhhh I love Nuns on The Run. Robbie ❤️

Yes they will have to cancel all of Monty Python a bit more won't they?

I wonder what it all can be replaced with? Maybe the musicals of non binary people singing about being non binary. Can't wait to watch that Christmas show!

Stumbled across this while searching to see if Nuns on the Run was a trans target:

Becoming transgender to avoid becoming a nun
You read the title. I have some issues since childhood. Call it OCD or whatever. Basically, I was born female but transitioned because I thought God wanted me to become a Christian nun, and I didn’t want that. I had (and still have) thoughts about it. It’s quite disturbing. Gives me anxiety. Thing is I always get nervous about religion.

I had obsessions about it for a long time as a Catholic. I had issues about my gender and other things and I had this fear that taking vows would seal my fate as a female forever. Also, in my head I always saw religious sisters as submissive of some sort. Submissive, and therefore corresponding to the patriarchy of the olden days. I didn’t want to lose my freedoms.

I know it’s weird and you might all think I’m psychotic now. I no longer identify as male but the thoughts about it still happens. I fear this is God’s will for me to suffer like this. Just needed to vent it out.

off topic but bloody hell the /detrans Reddit is heartbreaking

WandaWomblesaurus · 17/11/2022 11:00

Well the kids have begged me to take them to see it on stage now and so we will have to go and we can all be very offended. There's even a mug that says "Helooooo!"

Just shocking.

Fuck me, the irony is strong with this one.

But yes, as a general rule, no one should ever be allowed to dress up and pretend to be something they’re not. Which is going to hit the acting profession hard. But thems the breaks, what can you do?

Ahh but then we'd be kink shaming the furries.

viques · 17/11/2022 10:56

So this is why Emma Thompson was cast as Miss Trunchball in the film of Mathilda . It all makes sense to me now……

Personally I am looking forward to seeing Ian McKellen as Mother Goose in Mother Goose. Saw him as Widow Twankey a few years ago and he clearly loved every minute of it, born to be a classical actor panto dame that man .

StellaAndCrow · 17/11/2022 10:47
Mrs Doubtfire recut as a horror movie.

Interesting comment
"I remember an interview with Robin about the makeup for this movie, and how after seeing himself being characterized as a woman for the first time he told the makeup artist "gosh, I really look like a lady. Now make me pretty"

The artist told him " I already did, this is the best I can do", and Robin tells he was emotionally devastated because he suddenly felt ugly and unimportant. He realized that is what most aging women go through every day, and how acting in this movie challenged his views on women a lot. Powerful stuff, one of the best interviews he ever gave if you can find it."

Babasghost · 17/11/2022 10:43

The live action role playing is far more offensive!

So the most oppressed group the best they can do to demonstrate victimhood is to trawl for 1990s movies that may be offensive should they have bothered to watch them.

3 women per week are killed in the UK by current or x male partners. So fuck off with your vanity you utter narcassit women face wearing dicks.
