It seems we are not allowed to discuss this

Yes, identifying someone's sex is pretty fundamental. It affects how we interact with them.
The experience of 'uncanny valley' when being expected to deny that is uncomfortable. It goes against the personal protective behaviours we develop to keep ourselves safe, as much as anything.

Oh, and gynaephillia is a thing.

Obviously meant to type autogynaephilia
Even my keyboard is censoring me this morning 😂

It’s a private forum, they can - and routinely do - delete threads for whatever reason they wish.

But, ‘we don’t think it’s helping anyone’ is not an acceptable reason. It was helping plenty of people who were able to make reasoned arguments based on facts.

It wasn’t helping people who believe the emperor’s wearing new clothes.

So true @Cattenberg

Hi all,
This thread seems to have wandered off topic and we're not at all sure it's helping anyone so we are going to remove it.

It's always interesting wording they use.
Who do you think "we" are anyway?
Do you think there's a coven of MN mods all poised ready to delete risky threads and posts, or is it up to one random person at their own discretion what is and isn't permitted?

Cattenberg · 12/11/2022 23:50

I’ve become very aware of how I instinctively notice if someone is male or female.
Let’s face it, when a woman is walking home on a dark evening, she’s acutely aware of who is walking behind her and whether they’re likely to be a threat. Does this snap judgement sometimes involve prejudices or stereotypes? Yes, because that’s how the brain makes decisions quickly.

I try to be aware of any prejudices I might hold and challenge them (e.g. is a scruffy man walking along muttering to himself really more likely to be a threat than a man in a suit talking on his mobile?) but I can’t eliminate them completely, because they’re part of my survival instincts.

Do I ever read people’s sex incorrectly? Yes. But although I’m easily fooled by someone’s tiny, filtered online photo, I think I’m rarely fooled in real life. Something small, such as the way someone walks, will seem different and another glance (hopefully unnoticed) usually confirms the reason why.

females on mumsnet arguing facts and making sense.

TRA could not make logical arguments, so report the thread to have it deleted?

What was the reason for deletion? Perhaps it’s possible to avoid another deletion if we slightly censor ourselves?

Perhaps the points being made were too convincing.

Thanks for the heads-up about deletion
It's quite alarming though, that a forum for adult women, discussing vital matters to their workplace and society can be shut down arbitrarily.
This is how people in authoritarian regimes must feel. Interesting experience.

Just made a thread about the same thing.

I agree. its completely arbitrary depending on who is policing MN that day.

Anyway, this thread will also be deleted, as it a TAAT (thread about a thread).

Just remember on MN you are not allowed to discuss reality. That should see you right for your next post.
