'Misgendering' cannot be discussed?

It seems we are not allowed to discuss this

I mean, it's quite straightforward. We see a woman, we say "she, her"; we see a man, we say "he, him". It has always worked very well and clearly, all my life.

Also, in my native language, it's just not that simple; so I'm wondering whether you are being racist and/or xenophobic towards me now as well, because English is not my native language.

When someone wishes to be 'she' when they are make what is the prime motivation?.If attraction to men makes a man feel they are the wrong sex surely this is just himosexuality? Do men miss the instinct to give birth which is a major characteristics of women? How do men know they are missing breasts or their penis is redundant? I just can't figure out how someone can in some philosophical sense know innately they are the wrong sex because they can identify with all the other qualities of the other sex.

What is the difference between a gay transvestite and a trans woman? Is it that a trans woman has some kind of true insight into womanhood that transcends biology?

I just don't get it :(

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 13/11/2022 01:01

Because women don't have one view as we're all individuals?!

MumOnAMountain · 13/11/2022 01:00

If you're not a TRA, then why are you here cheerleading for TRA viewpoints?

Oh Ganymede should back away.
a bunch of radicalized 2nd Waves mothers are a powerful force; and that's just what TRAs fear

What are you actually on about, I'm a mum with an opinion just like you (presumably) are 😁
I'm not a TRA

Please don't start again on this one, ffs.

Obviously not important if it affects women deeply🙄

So are we not allowed at all to address the current etiquette dilemma? How sad in these times.

This is something that I’ve thought about a lot. That instinctual warning. Because a few years back I was walking home alone and I noticed two men walking towards me on the same side of the street as me. No one else about.

I felt instantly uncomfortable, but then I challenged my thinking. Was I yearning to cross the road away from them because these men were black, in a very white area? That’s racist. Was I judging them on the basis of their clothes, which indicated a different social class to mine? That’s so snobby. Was it just that they were youngish men? That’s so ageist!

While I was thinking about all of this, they mugged me and stole my handbag.

Wish I’d been a lot less worried about hurting the muggers’ feelings and a lot faster at crossing the road and getting away from them.

@Dontaskdontget , I’m sorry that happened to you.

Can people like who support this type of thing, please explain, why women must be forced to address known men by female pronouns?

The previous thread disappeared before I managed to read all of it.

You might need to start a new thread asking this question as this thread can also be deleted for being a TAAT (thread about a thread)

(The bloody hoops we have to jump through just to discuss impact on women ffs)

I actually find this chilling. Every time it happens, it makes me feel afraid. It's scary how easy it is for our rights and freedoms to be attacked.

females on mumsnet arguing facts and making sense
I hate this argument though.
"We're just females on Mumsnet, making sense!"
It feeds into a victim mentality which makes me uncomfortable on several levels
What, we can never be wrong or called out because we're just lil ol' mummies talking about prams, or cooking dinner!
Er, no.

I never said "we're just females" - you are adding words to suit your agenda, because you have nothing of value to add, so your only option is to try to twist words around.

I was making an observation.

Females aren't allowed to have a robust discussion because we're supposed to be kind, so TRAs report the thread to shut down discussion.

Er, no.

Actually many are appalled that a bunch of mummies instead of discussing prams are now engaged in good old Second Wave consciousness -raising and getting radicalized!

You've got that the wrong way round. We can't have proper discussion about stuff because we should only be talking about prams and stuff.

I’ve become very aware of how I instinctively notice if someone is male or female.
Let’s face it, when a woman is walking home on a dark evening, she’s acutely aware of who is walking behind her and whether they’re likely to be a threat. Does this snap judgement sometimes involve prejudices or stereotypes? Yes, because that’s how the brain makes decisions quickly.

I try to be aware of any prejudices I might hold and challenge them (e.g. is a scruffy man walking along muttering to himself really more likely to be a threat than a man in a suit talking on his mobile?) but I can’t eliminate them completely, because they’re part of my survival instincts.

Do I ever read people’s sex incorrectly? Yes. But although I’m easily fooled by someone’s tiny, filtered online photo, I think I’m rarely fooled in real life. Something small, such as the way someone walks, will seem different and another glance (hopefully unnoticed) usually confirms the reason why.

This is something that I’ve thought about a lot. That instinctual warning. Because a few years back I was walking home alone and I noticed two men walking towards me on the same side of the street as me. No one else about.

Can’t quite make out the point here. What do prams and cooking dinners have to do with anything?

Seriously annoyed it disappeared. I was on page 1 of 3 and there were some interesting points.

WallaceinAnderland · 13/11/2022 00:13

Of course we can be wrong. If anyone can give a reasoned and truthful statement as to why I am wrong, I will accept it. I have yet to hear why women must be forced to call men by female pronouns just because those men want them to.

I have posted a quote on here numerous times and I make no apology for repeating it frequently.

”If freedom means anything at all it means being able to tell people things that they do not wish to hear. “
