GLAMOUR and UOMA Beauty's Beauty Game-Changer of the year apparently.

Guess they couldn’t find any actual women deserving of the accolade… wonder how hard they looked?

Didn't know compelled speech was a feature of the MN Talk Guidelines!

Not exactly... you don't have to actually mis-sex anyone.

VladmirsPoutine · 12/11/2022 20:58

But that’s not the question I asked. I didn’t ask why Bergdorf talking about race was interesting or why it resonates. I asked how you can believe it.

I answered that it depends on your worldview. Her experiences of being mixed race resonate with my own of being mixed race. Not every mixed race person will have the same view or experiences of it.

Bergdorf is prepared to make stuff up about themselves in order to elevate Bergdorf’s standing. Why wouldn’t Bergdorf do this with race as well?

I don't doubt many people make stuff up about the various parts of their identity to push another agenda but what she said about being mixed race - in one particular interview (granted I haven't seen everything she's ever said about race), resonated with me.

Or are you saying because the race part is something you’re interested in it means you feel no need to challenge the veracity of any of it?

Again, mixed race people all have different experiences of our cultures and racial makeup. I do find myself interrogating a lot of what people say about the mixed experience but again I cannot challenge the 'veracity' of a mixed race person saying they for example were not accepted by either their white or black side because there is no universal fact-based science on the experiences of mixed people. I would sound rather bigoted telling someone who explains their experiences of racism that it didn't really happen because it never happened to me or that there is no scientific paper that quantifies their experience.

It depends on your worldview, I am not of the opinion that people can change sex - it's biological. That is a given but I am also not going to antagonise someone's preferred identity - I gain nothing from calling transwomen men in dresses or whatever. I have no dog in the fight. I do however have huge interest in and quite an extensive background in race-related issues; so when she spoke about (the difficulties, among other things) about being mixed race I completely resonated with it. Some people wouldn't give a shiny shit about her race, or indeed race issues at large, but for me it's massively important.

But that’s not the question I asked. I didn’t ask why Bergdorf talking about race was interesting or why it resonates. I asked how you can believe it. Bergdorf is prepared to make stuff up about themselves in order to elevate Bergdorf’s standing. Why wouldn’t Bergdorf do this with race as well?

When a male tells me they’re a woman, I cease to take anything they say to be true at face value. If they told me they had toast for breakfast I would raise an eyebrow. So you say when Bergdorf spoke about being mixed race it resonated, but how do you know any of it was real?

I think the deletions have mostly (if not all) been for 'misgendering' . Best to just avoid pronouns tbh.

I was deleted fairly sharpish. They seem to be waiting in the wings on the FWR board, whereas on other topics it takes ages.
Also, I don't think I mentioned pronouns, but said something about the extremes of plastic surgery. I don't think it was offensive...at least I don't think it was as offensive as a person cheating to win an award they are not eligible for and basking in praise for pretending to be something they aren't - but hey, I'm just a regular woman, so my opinion doesn't matter.

Woman of the Year? It has to be Mahsa Amini (posthumously) for me. The fact that Glamour awarded it to Bergdorf just tells me how shallow and pointless the award is. Best ignored.

Plastic surgery can do wonders!

Having your face peeled off and completely reshaped should mean that you are ‘gorgeous’. Isn’t that the aim?

Fuckedoffteacher · 12/11/2022 14:54

Helleofabore · 12/11/2022 14:01

So a male with extreme plastic surgery has won a glamour award?

And people remain shocked by the announcement that there is one group of 18 year olds getting pre-emotive Botox so they don’t get wrinkles.

And that there is another group of teen girls saying they are boys.

And a male with extreme plastic surgery is deigned the most glamourous of all?

Our teenagers are being told their worth in decisions like this and we are supposed to celebrate it. Fuck off.

All. Of. This!

Is there a bot checking posts that they get removed so quickly?

Definitely, just had my first ever deleted post! Speaking facts is against MN guidelines apparently.

Sausagenbacon · 12/11/2022 14:29

I remember, a year or so ago when the FT listed them as one of their women of the year.

Snoozer11 · 12/11/2022 14:24

I despise this cretin.

Munroe is not a woman. Therefore should not be getting an award for being a woman. That's all.

This.

Charley50 · 12/11/2022 13:37

Shame that MB and other ultra-feminine Transwomen don't try to push the bandwidth of what being a man means, like Marilyn, Boy George (yuk), Marc Almond, David Sylvian, David Bowie, Leigh Bowery and Divine did, in their different ways. Instead they steal words and awards from women, while actively expressing hate towards us.

That seems to be common when Monroe threads occur.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 12/11/2022 13:32

Certainly ‘a Beauty Game Changer’ , just maybe not in the way they mean.

Helleofabore · 12/11/2022 13:29

Cocolapew · 12/11/2022 10:16

Forgot to add photo 🤦MB doesn't seem to be very tolerant towards gay women (and men) 🤷

Well coco… don’t forget they are gorgeous apparently!!!

I mean really. I remember watching their show about their extreme plastic surgery.

It goes without saying that women and girls have been set a challenge to reach to achieve award winning glamour.

It's amazing how small the pool of transwomen is that so many of them seem to be better at womaning than actual women. They really must be very special.

Gamechanger? Honestly look at their Instagram. Their life is one endless round of dress-up, plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures (I think the relatively recent butt-job was done by the same surgeon as Jessica Alves who also follows MB). Since January they've holidayed in the Maldives, Marseille, Spain, New York - constantly posting pics of them in luxury hotel rooms , on yachts, idyllic beaches. They've walked a handful of shows, modelled Bulgari Diamonds, appeared on magazine covers and attended award ceremonies. And then they post a few trite 'Protect Trans Kids' memes and get interviewed for their ground breaking 'work' and THIS makes them a Gamechanger?!! Oh sorry they also have a high camp show on MTV that they co-present with drag queen Tayce.

What MB does best is self-publicise and try everything they can to mould their face and body to an idealised version of what certain members of society think a gorgeous, fabulous woman should look like. They do that very, very well it has to be said partly down to having an enormous budget and/or loads of companies wanting MB to wear their cosmetics, hairpieces, frocks etc... The 'political' stuff seems to entirely consist of them just existing and being a role model to any other wanna be trans models, and being lauded by the likes of Trish Goddard for posting photos of themselves in enormous frou-frou frocks.

It also feels like they've had a book coming out for the past 5 years but it's yet to materialise. Occasionally they will post a photo of themselves without the make-up and wigs and they look beautiful.

I blame society for making 'being beautiful' an 'achievement'. Especially for women. It seems to be even more of a pinnacle of achievement for trans women.

Oh and I'm sure this thread won't last.

The background on race. Bergdorf was dropped by L'Oreal and then "stepped down" from a Labour post because of these comments:

www.politicshome.com/news/article/controversial-race-row-model-munroe-bergdorf-resigns-as-lgbt-advisor-to-labour

claimed that white people’s "entire existence is drenched in racism".
