A show on ITV at 8pm tonight that sees male celebrities dressing in drag to be judged by a panel. Hosted by Lorraine Kelly.

More normalising womanface and misogyny on prime time tv for ‘family’ entertainment.

LisaPandervump. Totally agree with your last post about the forcing of trans ideology. And as you say, anyone speaking out against the programme will be viewed as a heretic. Guess I’d better tie myself to the stake now then !

Nope - I do a class (it’s all women - this time) and a range of age/class/nationality/religion.star signs. We ALL hate this nonsense, and it’s quite therapeutic to be around people who don’t play at outrage.

KittenKong · 06/11/2022 10:20

Do men really harbour desires to dress up like ‘women’ and be horrible?

MissPoldark. Thanks for the OFCOM link, have emailed my complaint.

Let's see how this show would look parodying any of the other protected characteristics.

Man A comes on tapping a white stick with dark glasses and trades bitchy banter with crowd. Maybe wanders off in wrong direction when leaves stage for added laughs.

Young Man B staggers in with a comedy hunchback and hilarious routine parodying dementia

White person C puts on black make-up, lip syncs to a song,

Person D dresses as a Hasidic Jew and...

You get the idea. NONE of these would be allowed as a prime time show, despite claims of expressing themselves and creativity. There might be individual comedians out there doing routines like this - but there is not a whole show celebrating them. If they are out there, they are acknowledged as having some cruelty involved.

I briefly flicked on the this program. What utter drivel. The bit I saw was Adam Woodyatt attempting to impersonate and it was cringeworthy awful. The judges and Lorraine false laughing. I don't get drag as entertainment at all. Any I've seen lack any talent and are only there because they are men dressed as stereotypical women.

Feckedupbundle · 06/11/2022 09:16

I'm so glad that we don't watch live TV and pay to produce, promote and watch stuff like this.

I peronally think Lorraine Kelly has issues.

She's an utter bellend

LisaPandervump · 06/11/2022 08:46

Let’s face it. This was 100% about trans indoctrination - and that’s why Twitter is going nuts celebrating it and it is heresy to dare to critique it. All the men who took part - likely for the money and exposure - now being lauded as LGBT ‘allies’ - is hilarious, this is simply part of the agenda to force trans ideology down out throats and normalise it. The men who perform drag are even unlikely to be trans - but it’s just another way in. We can debate the art and creativity if it - but let’s not pretend that putting this on at 8pm prime time and people waiting in the wings for anyone who dares to criticise it with immediate cries of BIGOT - isn’t part of the wider rainbow agenda.

ANY parody of any other group would be cancelled. You either support it or you don’t.

Quite - why can't they dress up as spectacular animals, or aliens? Why always a diva/abrasive woman?

Drag is a really broad church. Some of it is misogynistic tripe and some of it is funny and informative.

Some Queens wear fake boobs and padding whilst others dress as spectacular animals (Trinity K Bonet) or aliens (Cheddar Gorgeous). Others, like Gottmik, push the boundaries of gender norms (a trans man Drag Queen) and Danny Beard, Crystal, Conchita Wurst et al all have facial/body hair. Huge numbers of drag queens use their acts to discuss and promote really serious issues affecting gay communities.

I didn't watch this show and it may fall into the misogynistic tripe category of drag. But please don't put the whole genre into the one box.

I'd like to see some of those. I enjoy well done make-up and creativity. Last night (of the 3 acts I saw) was very much of the misogynistic variety.

@AutumnCrow What issues?

Exactly. But the men get hero worshipped for ‘being themselves’. You couldn’t make this shit up.

We don’t have to put up with this

TheaBrandt · 06/11/2022 08:07

Imagine shows mocking other groups for characteristics that they cannot help (being gay/ disabled / your race). Outrage.

Alertthecorgis · 06/11/2022 08:04

Like most people have pointed out. There are no shows with women dressing as men. It’s always exclusively men dressing as women.

I don’t like drag, I don’t think it’s fun. I think it’s having a pop at women but labelling it “light hearted fun” or “art”. Mocking women has now it seemed become entertainment.

KittenKong · 06/11/2022 07:57

Women don’t get to do that. Any reality show - women are mostly ripped to shreds or ogled in swimsuits.

PepeParapluie · 06/11/2022 07:56

I watched it as DH wanted to see Joe Marler, as he’s into rugby. We ended up having a bit of an argument as I kept making comments about how I just don’t understand how drag is acceptable. DH just wanted to enjoy some ‘light entertainment’. It makes me very uneasy though and I always feel like I’m the killjoy or ‘too serious’ if I question it. But it just seems so inherently offensive to me.

If it was just a case of men who feel like wearing a dress or makeup and who also do comedy/ lip-syncing etc, then great. But it’s the fake boobs and the caricaturing of women as part of that that moves it into offensive for me. This show seemed tamer than drag race/ actual drag acts to be fair, but there were still elements of that caricaturing in it.

I also just find it very irritating that we’re supposed to celebrate a man dressed as a woman doing things which a woman herself would get completely vilified for - e.g overly sexualised outfits/ dancing or being ‘bitchy’ (I’m not saying last nights acts were like this, but some are).

TheaBrandt · 06/11/2022 07:53

Why is this being rammed down our throats by main stream media? What is the agenda here? And where are the programs mentioned above featuring large groups of women taking the piss out of stereotypes of men?

Maybe I want the chance to “have confidence and be who I want to be” by dressing up as and laughing at men?

KittenKong · 06/11/2022 07:52

Yup. It’s had it’s day.

MissPoldark · 06/11/2022 07:51

Please complain to ofcom and let’s get this offensive misogynistic trash taken off prime time Saturday night TV.

KittenKong · 06/11/2022 07:46

The fact that it’s everywhere? I pass 2 shop ads on my way to work with drags promoting dry cleaning and bus services. Hideous p-take of women.
