Supposedly us older folk know nothing about feminism or violence against women:

There is another thread right now about a mum's arguments with her two late 30s/early 40s TRA daughters. They come across as total twats, and it's very tempting to advise treating them accordingly. I agree with UniversalAunt that it's important to resolve family grievances but it can be so very hard ...

This young woman just does not tolerate anyone who has a different vision of progress.

She should be on mumsnet, she'd fit right in on many of hhd boards

Wise words @morningtoncrescent62

Sad that you feel such loss for what you & your family missed.
A helpful prompt to us all to resolve our family grievances & misunderstandings as best we can, time moves so fast & seems to speed up as we get older.

Sorry, this was not directed at morningtoncrescent but at the thread! Apologies.

Thank you! I realised it wasn't directed at my post, but it's nice of you to clarify.

Oh morningtoncrescent I'm sorry. (((hug)))

This article makes me sad.

I was a 15-year-old who lectured my parents about what was right and was convinced they knew nothing. I was slow to grow out of that kind of absolutist thinking and the conviction that I had all the answers, and for most of my 20s I alienated my parents. It was a dreadful, stupid mistake for all of us. It meant I hurt them, and I struggled more than I needed to as a young single parent when they would have helped me, and by the time I started to come round in my 30s it was too late to properly rebuild the relationships with them. They're dead now, and it's too late. The writer of that article, and the other adults who applaud teenagers' intolerance and dogmatic thinking, aren't doing them or those around them any favours at all.

Total bait, wheeling out a real-life Titania McGrath to lecture the oldies on how to be as enlightened as her.

The Times knows what they're doing.

Yes, agree.

She’s ‘in awe’ whenever she hears her fifteen year old sister pontificate to her father on an issue? Yes, because we all know fifteen year olds are bastions of wisdom and rationality with all that life experience to draw on.

When I was 15 I was astounded at how ignorant my parents were. By the time I was 25 I was amazed at how much they'd learned.

What goes around, comes around. It won't be too many years and she may well be the mother of a 15 year old who hectors her about the error of thy ways.

See it's all fun and games when the men around you play along as you say what they want you to say to keep them in control.

Like cats playing with mice as my granny used to say.

Ageism.
Also, she will learn. The bitter truth of it won't be apparent to her yet. She's unaware she has a shelf life.

And, if she is in her late 20s, she's not that far off her expiry date.

I particularly liked this bit:

”…recently lectured my British baby boomer father about why it’s offensive to deadname a transgender person (that is when you refer to a trans person by the name they used prior to transitioning).”

Patronising (that’s when you talk down to someone, Olivia)

Transwomansplaining?!

What an insufferable prig.

I have shoes older than her.

That reminded me of "I've got peas in the freezer older than you"

That piece is so cringingly bad, I think it was borderline spiteful to go ahead and publish it. She’s going to have to live with that now.

Yes. I did wonder if the brief was 'write something that will wind all our readers up to the nth degree, for the outrage clicks'.

bellinisurge · 03/11/2022 18:26

@Angrymum22 certainly feels like that sometimes

“I find it incredibly sad that younger generations lack the ability to think critically.“

See, I think the young can think critically about some things, but not the things likely to get you yelled at by your peers for wrongthink (or that you fear will get you yelled at, but actually wouldn’t because everyone is silently thinking the same thing). Better not to look into it too much in case you end up on the side of the devil.

I reckon young TERFs are pretty quiet about it on the whole. I speak in code when I think I’ve found a fellow TERF-under-25 like I’m part of an underground conspiracy.

Angrymum22 · 03/11/2022 16:38

I sometimes wonder whether my generation, Gen X, were a one off generation. Our parents were intolerant of our views and now our children or more likely grandchildren show little tolerance of our views. We seemed to be sandwiched between two generations of explainers.
The World Wide Web and social media have rendered it unnecessary to leave your bedroom to explore the world and experience everything need to develop a healthy view of society. We are too quick to believe without actually forming our own opinion based on real life experience.
I find it incredibly sad that younger generations lack the ability to think critically.

TheKeatingFive · 03/11/2022 16:36

For example, she would have the money to leave a violent relationship without worrying about how she was going to cover the rent on a new property.

Exactly. Why worry about the vulnerable women who would be most affected by the erosion of sex specific spaces, when you're never going to be one, right?

Throw those losers under the bus as fast as you can. While jumping up and down for the cool points from the woke bros.

Dont forget to congratulate yourself for your lack of bigotry 👏
